  1. Sorry deerslayer, but taking someone's IP address (information that only an admin has access to) and going to see if it can be tied to a specific company is snooping. No harm done in this case, but what I would like to impress on Pubby is that it is important that he maintains the trust of his users. I may disagree with Pubby on politics 99% of the time, but up to this point I have not doubted whether or not he could be trusted on the anonymity issue.

We have the ability to check IP addresses to maintain the integrity of the board. We don't want one person to assume several identities to trash a businesses competitor by making it look like many people are upset or give the impression one opinion is more popular than another. We've had instances where that or similar things have happened. No one's identity is ever revealed to anyone without a court order compelling that action.

  2. What you can do to protect and prepare for a pandemic:

Purchase ten N95 masks for every family member, and store them. N95 masks are widely available at hardware stores and home improvement centers. They're the little white dust masks you would buy for sanding drywall or tearing up carpet. Expect a rush and none on the shelves if you wait if you wait. They won't ever go bad, and they're cheap. Brush up on proper technique for removing the mask to prevent infection.

Disposable gloves and alcohol based hand sanitizers are a must, particularly if you are caring for an infected person in your home. Odds are you will still catch the virus, but using the gloves and hand sanitizers will assist in protecting the ill person from secondary bacterial infection.

Stockpile some non-perishable food and water. Enough to last about a month. If your home or community is quarantined, you don't want to be caught short.

Prepare a family plan of care. Plan for caring for the ill in a room near a bathroom. Glove up and mask, and maybe even have some sort of smock or jumpsuit to wear while in the room with them that can be easily bleached or disposed of. Consider bleach your new best friend. Hard surfaces should be wiped down with bleach/water solution after every contact with the infected person, and the bleach and water allowed to dry on the surface. Reusable items should be bleach-able (sheets, blankets, clothing).

Plan on "social distancing" Schools closed. Events such as concerts, church services, sporting events cancelled. Try to keep a distance of 36" inches between you and other people.

  4. Im supposed to go on a cruise to Mexico next week. Wonder if it will be canceled

Check with your cruise line immediately. Also, it might be smart of you to reconsider your trip. The students from NYC were on a vacation in Cancun.

It is expected that today the US State Department will indeed issue a travel warning urging Americans to avoid all "nonessential" travel to Mexico because of an outbreak of swine flu, a U.S. official said.
