We have fit guys before who are 6'11. We'd have to measure him to see what is available for rental in his size. If anyone can fit him, we can, because we have access to more suppliers than the chain stores, which have access to only their narrow line of goods.
About larger guys - Unlike most places, King Tux Rentals does not discriminate by charging more for big and tall gentlemen. We still charge $119.99 for big/tall rentals of a black tux!

We get this question all of the time! The answer is, "as soon as possible, if you need to coordinate colors". Some students this year are going black and white, instead of matching. Those students don't have to come way in advance. In fact, King Tux Rentals can outfit a prom student on his way to prom!
If you need to coordinate colors, bring the dress or a piece of fabric from it. Pictures of colors are not true representations. If you use a camera phone picture of the color, you can expect for our colors to match the camera phone picture, but not the dress, necessarily.
Prom students who rent tuxes should never spray cologne on the tux! It magnifies the smell to the point of revulsion - it smells terrible when applied directly or indirectly to fabrics. Just the smallest amount applied to the skin goes a long way!
Come early on Saturdays or Sundays to place your order! Thursday and Friday afternoons are when the prom-goers for that week are trying on their outfits. You may have to wait a while before getting to order if you come on Thursdays or Fridays. If that's the only time that you have available, then come when you can.

We charge one price for black tux rentals. Why? Because YOU need to know how much it's going to cost. The major chain stores raise their prices to over $200, then give out $50 coupons to inexperienced teenagers. What they don't tell anyone is that the coupons are not valid on the lower priced rentals, just the higher priced ones, and that they can't be applied within a couple of weeks of the prom.
Finally, this is an important event for prom students. He should be allowed to try on a tux, mostly for fit. If they don't have tuxes for him to try on, then you should not shop there.

The nationwide chain stores, being public companies, have to raise prices regularly to satisfy their stockholders who require higher returns year after year, on their investments. Small businesses are not controlled by shareholders and will often work with you in negotiating a price. They are much more flexible, especially when it comes to high-dollar or high-volume items.
The money stays local, to support other local businesses. When you purchase at a large chain, much of that money goes to the corporation, which is usually not based here. When you do business with a small, local business owner, your dollars support the local tax base, and much of the money stays in the area, to be churned repeatedly by dozens of subsequent purchases.
There's also the personal service that a person gets from dealing with local merchants. The issue of accountability is a major factor when it comes to special events. With a major corporation, an employee can always blame another area of the company when something goes wrong. A small business owner is accountable, personally, for your satisfaction. Here's another warning about the chain tux places -- Be especially wary if they ask prom customers (low on their priority list) to make a second choice in case their first choice isn't available.
Customers should get what they're paying for and no customer should be treated as less of a priority than other customers! Don't let anyone substitute another item for the one that you want!
Of course, you can come in to King Tux Rentals and you won't have to deal with substitutions!

First of all, a young gentleman going to prom will need to come in to have his measurements taken. If he is going with a date, then he may want to discuss with his date color-coordination. Some try to match up colors, others don't. It's a matter of preference.
If they're matching/coordinating colors, then they should bring THE DRESS in, or at least some fabric (sash, ribbon, etc) with the color in it. Pictures of colors are usually not helpful in creating an exact color match and cellphone pictures are notorious for distorting the color.
When you get your measurements taken, try on something! You've all seen pictures of guys going to prom with the sleeve length so long that it covers the boy's hands. That's usually because an untrained sales associate didn't take a sleeve measurement. Also - Try on shoes. If your shoes are uncomfortable for the entire night, you're going to be miserable!
Regarding price - BEFORE you go in to the store, find out the TOTAL price. If they won't tell you, don't go there! The big chain stores lure you in with an ultra-low "reference price" when they know that a person cannot rent one for that price. They'll say, "our prices START AT ....." If you ask how much a total rental is, they say "Depends". Again - don't go to a store that won't give you a straight answer.
Go to a tux shop that has well-trained staff and doesn't hire "seasonal help". Again, it's the chain stores who will hire people only for the prom season and the sales person may have no knowledge of the formal wear business or etiquette.
Take your business to a shop that will take ownership and responsibility and has an excellent record of customer service. It's a special day, you're spending over a hundred dollars for the total rental, so you deserve an excellent personal experience!
So here's the process: Call to get a price quote for a complete rental with everything (briefly describe what you think that you want i.e. "black tux with red vest and red bow tie). Then go in for measurements and take the dress in if you're coordinating colors. Have your measurements taken by trying on a tux and shoes. Find out about the rental terms (like when the tux is to be picked up and returned) Pay for your rental, making sure that it's the price that you were quoted. When picking up the rental, try it on because once you've accepted it (taken it out of the store) it's deemed, "acceptable".
