When your son comes to you the week of prom and tells you that he wants to go, don't panic! At King Tux Rentals, we specialize in handling same week/last minute orders. And -- as long as getting your tux rental together doesn't cost US extra money, we won't charge YOU extra! ALL of the nationwide chain stores WILL charge you between $20 - $40 extra for same-week orders. That means that at these already over-priced outlets, you could pay as much as $300 for a tux rental.
At King Tux Rentals, it's still $119.99 for a black tux rental with everything you need, including shoes and your choice of colors for the vest and tie. Here's what you need to do: Go to our website to get directions. Use these directions and do not rely on your navigation device or on your keen eye for spotting businesses while driving down the road. If the young gentleman is attempting to match colors, the most efficient strategy is to bring the dress, not a picture of the dress. Digital pictures of colors are not actual representations of that color. Before cell phone pictures, bringing the dress in is the way it was done. It's still the only way that works.
You'll need a credit card, whether you pay in cash or not. The credit card, as in all rental situations, is used to guarantee proper return of the rental. You don't need an appointment. We handle tuxedo fittings on a first-come, first-served basis. However -- If you need to come in on a Monday, call us (678) 401-4999, so that we can be here to serve you (Monday is the only day when we're closed, but we WILL open for you if Monday is the only day you can come in!).

We're hearing horror stories from parents whose children are being taken advantage-of because of their lack of knowledge in the area of renting tuxedos. The big chains are pitching $230 - $250 dollar RENTALS on kids who have their parents charge cards. The BASE PRICE on these rentals is $215!

They'll make him feel better about the deal by saying that he's getting $40 off! That means that without the discount, the rental would have been $240!
You should call around. If a place will not give you a straight answer about price, then do not give them your business, if money matters to you. If they want your business, they'll ask you questions, sure, to determine your needs. If they are doing a "bait and switch", they'll say that their rentals start at (for example) $79.99 when they know that you can't rent a tux from them for that price. It's just a lure to get you in so that they can charge, sometimes, three times that much!
We do "All-Inclusive Pricing" at King Tux Rentals. We have two price points. For a black tux with everything, including shoes and your choice of vest/tie (or bow tie) colors, it's $119.99. Colors other than black, for the TUX, (white, grey, navy, dark chocolate brown, or ivory), it's $149.99 for everything.
One more thing to watch out for - If the store tries to get you to pick out an alternative color, in case your selection is not available, you might want to ask yourself if you really want to pay all of that money and NOT get what you want! This scene happens all the time at the big chains. It's the way that they do business!

We get asked this question all of the time - When should we come in to reserve a prom tux? The answer is, "As soon as you can, after the girl has her dress!" Out of consideration for her date, the girl should select her dress long enough before prom that she gives him time to get his tux rental BEFORE the week of prom! She should also either give him a small piece of the fabric from the dress, a swatch provided by the dress shop, or she should just come in to the tux place with her date and bring the dress.
This year, more than ever before, we're hearing of prom dates who don't want their boyfriends to know anything about the dress, but expect them to color coordinate with them. Others will send a cell phone picture of the dress, which is almost never the actual color. Bottom line - If you want to match, then you need to bring the actual dress in, or at least some of the fabric from it. The decision is with the person renting the tux, but you need to know that most tux places charge extra for changes.

We accept cash (with a credit/debit card to use as security), credit card, personal check(with ID and a credit/debit card to use as security), or debit card. The outfit is picked up a couple of days before the prom and tried on to make sure that everything is just right. Then the rental is returned to us the day after prom - All for that one price.
If you are a senior in high school and you are planning on attending college in the fall, consider purchasing a tux! You'll have several formal events to attend in college and (again) you'll save money by making a purchase now that you can use many times, starting with your Spring Prom. High school juniors and seniors typically don't have a lot of experience regarding making plans. Parents occasionally need to provide reminders so that everything isn't put off until the last minute.
With prom season just a little over a month away, high school juniors and seniors should be making decisions about the event. The girls should be looking for dresses now. The couple should be purchasing their prom tickets now and getting a group together for a limo, bus, or other transportation. During one prom week, we have on our calendar 10 local proms on the same weekend! That would place a great strain on some local vendors to provide services for everyone.
Within a few weeks, the group needs to make dinner reservations and the girls should have picked out their dresses. This will allow sufficient time for any alterations to be made, so that they can bring the dress (or a piece of the fabric) in to the tux shop if they want to color-coordinate. Using a cell phone picture (or any picture) of the color is a bad idea, since digitalized photos don't provide an accurate color sample. Some prefer to go with black-and-white, a traditional tux look, but if a color match is the goal, match fabric-to-fabric and bring the dress (or a piece of the fabric) to the tux shop.
Flowers, hair and nails (for the girl) - these are also reservations/orders that need to be made within the next month. There are a lot of things to be done and for busy parents and students - not a whole lot of time if the planning is being done on the weekends. It's best to get out in front, so that planning for this very special day is stress-free for everyone.
Regarding pricing - shop around, unless money isn't an issue for you. Don't accept an iffy answer about price, like "it depends". Also, be cautious of tux shops offering a dollar discount unless you know what the base price is! The major chain stores have found that they can have a base price of $220 dollars for a rental, offer a $40 discount, and charge $180 for a tux rental for a single event.

Once the date has her dress selected and can bring a piece of the fabric in for color-matching (if they want to color-match) the prom students should come into King Tux Rentals to select a tux and to get measured. A day or two before prom, the young gentleman will come in to try on the outfit to make sure that everything is just right. We do on-the-spot alterations, so if something's not just right, we'll make it right before he leaves.
For students attending more than one prom, you may want to consider purchasing - especially if the senior student will be attending college, where there are many formal functions. A complete tux purchase of a previously rented tux is just $249.99 (excluding shoes). Shoe purchase is $57.99. You'll want to go ahead and make the purchase of the jacket and pants and then decide on the vest and tie/bowtie after the girl has decided on a dress (if they're color-matching). For students who already own a tux, rental of the accessories (everything but the jacket and pants) is just $44.99!
