  1. When my children have acted out in stores, I gave them one warning to stop. If the bad behavior continued, we left the store....eventually they learned that Mommy meant business. It is almost "freeing" as a parent if you have set this limitation because you don't spend the entire shopping trip threatening them. One infraction....we leave, go home and don't get to go to the store with Mommy which in itself is usually a treat, especially for small kids. No reward for good behavior because I expect it of them at all times.

Not judging anyone by any means but you probably should think twice about rewarding your children with food or candy. Rewarding or punishing kids with food can lead to eating disorders. Try to find other things to reward with. I speak from my own experience. Just something to think about.

  2. I cleaned out my girls' toys over the weekend. I have many stuffed animals and a few toys that I need to donate. Does anyone here know of anyone with a need or a place where they will be used? I would rather them go to someone or an organization that needs them instead of shoving the bag in one of those donation boxes that ultimately end up at thrift stores.

I have quite a few teddy bears, other misc stuffed animals, a couple of wake me up puppies....stuff young girls like.

  3. Tina Turner is proof that it can happen to anybody, and don't judge anyone for doing what they have to do to get where they're going.

She left with nothing but her name.

I also left with my clothes on my back and my daughters back. Let's just say, I never got anything back that belonged to either one of us. He burned it all because he was so mad that I was gone. He even burned the baby bed.

I have always said that if I won the lottery, I would set up various places and help get women away from situations like this. Gradiose, I know- but hell- I gotta dream. I do not have any clue as to what women like you must endure- but I honor you for escaping!!

That's a noble cause! I hope you win the lottery one day! You could do a lot of good.

  4. Survivor here!!! Lucky to be alive! Some people can say what they would do in that situation but not all situations or people are the same. Lucky for Bones that Mom got out alive after the first time. Those of us who had no place to go and no one to help....the same ones who fear for their (and theirs and childrens) lives sometimes cannot leave after the first time. Have you ever been a prisoner, fearing what would happen if you were caught trying to leave? Don't judge! There are plenty of women who try to leave and only end up dying. I am so lucky he didn't end up killing me, it's not like he didn't try! I accept responsibility for my own part but no one deserves to be beaten and held captive. I finally ran away.....literally......and he didn't catch me! I never went back. For the record, the first sign of violence was 3 months after we were married.

    So there! <_>

  5. Quoting an article whose link I will post below:

Mr. Wurzelbacher confronted Mr. Obama over his tax proposals, asserting that the Democratic nominee's plan would tax him more if Mr. Wurzelbacher bought a plumbing business.

In the course of their conversation, Mr. Obama said, "It's not that I want to punish your success. I just want to make sure that everybody that is behind you, that they have a chance for success, too. I think that when you spread the wealth around, it's good for everybody."

Who cares about Joe. Joe could be and really is just an example of an ordinary person who may contemplate owning a business. You can search for the figures on exactly how many small businesses that the good ole USA has. You may be astounded as to what you find if you look for unbiased figures.

Joe represents a large number of people who aspire to own their own business in America. Most of small businesses are service companies in which the owner learned a trade and has grown a (hopefully) sucessful company, much like myself and many of the commerce members here.

If you noticed, I highlighted the SCARY statement made by Obama. And I quote: "It's not that I want to punish your success. I just want to make sure that everybody that is behind you, that they have a chance for success, too. I think that when you spread the wealth around, it's good for everybody."

Can you tell me exactly what that statement means? Well Obama elaborates to say that "I think that when you spread the wealth around, it's good for everybody."

    Hmmmmm.....

    Here's the article:

  6. Sweet Potato Pie with Pecan topping

    Ingredients

1 (40-ounce) can cut sweet potatoes in light syrup

    7 ounces sweetened condensed milk

    4 tablespoons melted butter

    2 large eggs

    1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice

    1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

    1 lemon, zest grated

    1/2 lemon, juiced

    1/2 teaspoon sea salt

    2 tablespoons heavy cream

    1 (8 or 9-inch) frozen deep-dish pie crust shell

    For the pecan topping: optional

    1 cup raw pecans

    1/2 cup heavy cream

    1/2 cup brown sugar

    Pinch salt

    Directions

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

Drain sweet potatoes of their juice. Place sweet potatoes in an 11-cup food processor. Add the rest of the ingredients, except heavy cream, to food processor. Process mixture until smooth. Using a pastry brush, brush heavy cream over the surface of the frozen pie shell. Spoon sweet potato mixture into pie crust smoothing the top over. (Stop here and look below if using pecan topping.) Place on baking sheet and bake in the middle lower third of the oven for 45 minutes. Remove from oven and allow to cool in the refrigerator for several hours or overnight.

    For the pecan topping: optional

In a medium saucepan place all ingredients over medium heat. Bring to a boil, reduce heat and cook, stirring constantly for 8 minutes. Remove from heat, allow to cool slightly but still warm and pliable.

Add sweet potato filling to piecrust, spreading evenly over bottom of crust. Next, carefully spoon pecan mixture over sweet potato filling. Place on a sheet pan in the lower third of a 350 degree F oven and bake for 45 minutes to 1 hour. Remove from oven allow to cool in the refrigerator for several hours or overnight.

  7. I had 2 vets tell me that a cats sugar levels go up and down much faster and more frequent that humans and that insulin doesn't regulate it as well as it can be regulated with humans. That's why they need to keep the cat for a day or two so they can check the sugar hourly to establish their patterns. My cat started having seizures because the insulin couldn't be regulated very well. Once they start having the seizures, I believe that they cause neurological damage which makes them more prone to having them. It is scary but they are generally okay and back to normal about an hour after the seizure.
