  1. Bottomline for me is that the intent was to cheat on the taxes.

You guys are a real hoot. So let me get this straight, Magnum PI, Roy Barnes paid over $2M in taxes but this last $7000 just pushed him over the edge to criminal behavior? Really? You're trying to sell that bullsh*t as fact? Perhaps you and your super-ninja fascist tea bagger posse will buy into that ridiculous idea of yours, but to the rest of us evil moderates such accusations are childish at best.

The difference between Roy and Deal is that Roy is successful, Deal is a failure.

The current GOP/Tea Party frowns on anyone with half a brain. Looks no further than Christine O'Donnel who considers the fact that she didn't go to an Ivy League school as some sort of positive qualification for the US Senate. They're absolutely out of their minds, these people.

  2. Deal has already explained that those records would release the income tax records of others he does business with. I don't know what part of that the news media doesn't get. It is against the law for him to release the income tax records of others. Seems to me they are guilty of a little badgering. Nothing new for them though.

I probably wasn't clear in my OP....it isn't the tax returns I'm upset about (the guy is shady, his full tax return won't change that). I'm upset by the way he just felt no obligation whatsoever to speak to the issue. If it is really as simple as not being able to release them due to his partner's info (white out works wonders), then stop, turn to the camera, and pleasantly explain to the voting public that he would release them if he could but it would be illegal to do so. Would it be that difficult? Instead he chose to act aloof and ignore the camera, running into a secured room to escape. He looked like a man on the run..literally.

  3. Did anyone catch last night on the news, I believe 11Alive, trying to ask Deal about missing portions of his filed tax returns. He absolutely refused to talk to the reporter...told them to go through the proper channels then he would talk. The reporter then went through the proper channels and Deal's people refused the interview.

This is the kind of despicable public avoidance I'd expect of a disgraced, ALREADY ELECTED, individual...not from a guy currently running for the highest office in GA. What kind of candidate turns down camera time? What kind of candidate refuses to answer important questions weighing on the public's mind? I was appalled by Deal's display of arrogance. I'm telling ya, he's probably going to win and it will be one of the biggest mistakes in this state's history.

Animal is really not going to decide my vote. :) I just wish that whole group of them would stop taking such satisfaction in local* politicians problems.

I firmly believe the folks who you perceive to be satisfied by Paulette Braddock's missteps are guilty of nothing more than being passionate about the county in which they live. These guys aren't just coming out of the woodwork, they've been here on PCom for years discussing the issues that matter. They were familiar with Braddock before this election, knew she was a bad apple, and find it imperative to warn the rest of us that this candidate has never been mistaken as ethical, upstanding, nor the kind of person you would expect to think outside the box to create novel solutions to difficult issues this county faces. When stories come out, even covered in the AJC, that lend credibility to the narrative they've already presented to you, well, certainly there's some satisfaction involved. But it's a satisfaction based on a love for the county...a hope that citizens caught the news....a satisfaction that we may have a more informed electorate choosing our representative in the Gold Dome. They know, and hopefully you know, that with the exposed record of Paulette Braddock she should be looked upon as unequivocally unelectable.

but you can present facts with out celebrating them and being so darn ugly.

Not sure there's a pleasant way to present two arrests (one felony arrest), a personal business bankruptcy, and a BOE voting record that got her booted from the board? I mean I'm sure she's a pleasant person to be around but I'm not voting her into office to be congenial.

  5.

So this guy's entire basis for not voting Barnes is based on an incorrect understanding of redistricting? Surely he understands that the state legislature redistricts this state, not the governor.

Unfortunately a large number of young largely Democratic voters were still playing with Barbies and riding their Razor Scooters when Roy was Governor. With no independent knowledge of his past performance, they are inclined to believe his glib responses, partisan attacks, and non positions. His only hope is that enough of these folks will vote against the Republicans an unethical hack with millions of dollars in personal debt.

  6. Did you specifically discuss the issues you have so often repeated here? Why do you feel the need to repeat the same thing over and over and over and over?

If it were common knowledge why withhold that information from the public at large? Why wait until now? Was it part of a master plan? Did you just want to enjoy an October surprise? Did you fear your candidate couldn't get legitimately elected so you and your cronies decided this backdoor approach was best? I'm not a Paulding native. I grew up "next door" in Cobb. Back in the day I could give you all the "ins and outs" of Cobb politics, but I've never been privy as a Paulding insider. If you have personally betrayed the voters of Paulding this badly, why should we support you and your candidate? Because I would wager that you and your cronies shared this information with him a long time ago. I have zero reason to believe this is all new this week to Will Avery. Do you think we are all pawns in your little games?

Assuming all "insiders" were in the know, isn't the onus on your local GOP insiders to dissuade Ms. Braddock from running? Not sure why you'd be looking to the local democrat org (oh, there isn't one) to warn you in primary season why Ms. Braddock will be a lost cause of a candidate.

Once again, absolutely no accountability for YOUR party's lack of preparation and foresight....instead of incredulously glancing at your party leaders for answers to their ineptitude, you and your ilk choose to deflect, deflect, deflect.

  7. Thanks for having the balls to come on here and share your opinions on issues that really have little to nothing to do with the position you're seeking, Will. No matter your answers, reservations would have remained. Hopefully the decided voter who asked all those inane questions just offered you an opportunity to present yourself as a VERY moderate/centrist candidate to 35 undecided voters.

NG, sometimes you make it so obvious that you eat, sleep, breath nothing but Fox News. The shear lunacy of trying to tie Barack Obama with the PDA speaks volumes. You have absolutely no clue how disgruntled hard leftists are with this president. It's akin to trying to tie Dubya to Ron Paul; the only similarity is the letter behind their names. From bailing out Wall Street, to stalling on the repeal of DADT, abandoning the pursuit of a single payer healthcare system, and continuing, actually broadening, the war in Afghanistan...these are things that have left the leftists struggling to come to terms that this "most liberal senator ever" is far from what they thought he was. But ya know what they say, if both sides are pissed off you've probably got a pretty fair deal.

Pubby, is Ms. Braddock registered on this site?

  8. The anonymous Dustin is not anonymous... its David aUSTIN.

Did you know that if you take the letters of my first name, mix them in with the letters of the name of the guy who lives in the house behind my house you can spell "think im thunk". Crazy, eh? This one time he had a friend named O'Leary over and we borrowed his apostrophe.

  9. So I keep reading that her arrest for domestic violence shouldn't matter because charges were dropped. I guess my question is who dropped the charges? Did this actually go to court and the judge dismissed the charge? Did the DA drop the charge due to lack of evidence? Did her ex-husband drop the charges?

If the latter, which I find likely to be the case, I would hardly call the lack of a conviction any sort of indication of innocence. More like a couple has a pending divorce with finances, kids, etc. involved and holding an arrest for domestic violence over one's head can, I imagine, serve as one hell of a bargaining chip.

I hate to speculate, but think it's important to differentiate between her ex dropping the charges and a DA dropping charges.

  10. Surely you don't REALLY think that is why she keeps the Rakestraw name, do you?

She hopes to gain some respectability and votes by continuing to use that good and reputable name.

Too bad Van didn't take it back with the divorce.

Whoa...so the Rakestraw name on her signs is from her ex-husband? The one she beat the sh*t out of? That's solid gold.

  11. In the gubernatorial race, I can understand, to an extent, those who just refuse to vote for Roy Barnes and, because of that, are willing to hold their noses and vote for a a terrible candidate in Nathan Deal. But looking at the 19th race, I just don't have any idea how a terrible candidate can still have support when the democrat candidate is not only squeaky clean but a very much centrist/moderate opponent. You'd think Paulette was running against Karl Marx himself with the way that her supporters stay behind her regardless of what she does wrong or how badly she bungles this campaign.

I hate that politics have gotten to this point....where partisanship is so strong that we no longer judge a candidate by his/her record or positions but rather on the party.

  12. I did get a response regarding my offer to give Chris Collins the opportunity to rebut his critics on PCOM TV.

    He wrote:

Sorry, Whitey, it appears that Chris will be rebutting allegations on his 'examiner' site.

  13. I have discussed this before also. David Austin is guilty of hiring a former employee also while county employees holding similar positions were let go. I know quite a few county employees and they are shaking their heads at some of the things this administration is doing.

Ya know, I really don't have a problem with this....and there's not much in this county that I DON'T have a problem with. Look, if you get put into a leadership position like Austin did, and in your professional career before taking the position you worked with people who you knew you could count on to do a solid job, why in the hell wouldn't you want them on your new team? I think you're making a swift judgement that these are just friends of his who are unqualified for the positions they were given. When George Bush hired a horse trainer to head up FEMA, a guy who's inadequacies and lack of experience were severely exposed during Katrina, he was guilty of straight up cronyism and a perfect example of your assumption here on the county level. I'm not ruling out the idea that that may be what happened, but there's atleast an equal chance that Austin brought qualified, top-notch people on board that he can count on to get things done.

As far as laying off others to make salary room for new folks, well, in my professional career in telecom, an industry that has been hammered since 2000 by revolving layoffs (my last company had SEVEN rounds of layoffs in a 2 year period), the first layoff is always aimed at the dead weight, folks who aren't performing. I have no reason to believe that things are any different with a county government layoff. Any organization who can successfully replace dead weight with dependable talent is doing the right thing. With that said, appointing a director over an organization that hasn't had a director for a couple of years is definitely questionable. I sincerely hope that that department was failing miserably in order to justify the director position.

I don't think that Letterman's comment compares to Imus's, which was sited in the article. If Palin knew what was good for her, she'd make a public comment for everyone to calm down. That would make her look like the cream rising to the top and really do good stuff for her public image.

ETA: The feminazi movement has really killed our country. Why aren't these women saving the world instead of whining about talk show hosts?

Keep in mind, these are the same folks who defended "Barack the Magic Negro" as a clever parody that wasn't the least bit offensive. It's all a game.

  15. It was a bad joke but, as TOW pointed out, she pimped out her kids during the election and this is what happens when you choose that path.

The sad thing about this is I truly believe that Palin is using this more as publicity than she is truly concerned about the taste of the joke.

Karma is a bitch...she's reaping what she sowed in the campaign when she threw out blatant lies and half-truths at the Obama campaign that served no purpose but to feed the deep-seeded paranoia in some of the extremist nutjobs at her rallies...the kind of nutjobs who we've seen in the news over the last few months who like to take care of matters with a gun (not all republicans, a very, very small number of EXTREMISTS). Sucks when things get personal, eh Sarah?

  16. I've been battling this for a couple weeks myself. 2 weeks ago I golfed in the morning and felt fine...got home, took a nap, woke up with post-nasal drip sore throat and a runny nose. Next couple days I had a low-grade fever going in and out. Went to the dr. and he gave me a cortisone shot in the ass and a Z-pack. Neither of them really did anything to help me, just took time. I'm still blowing my nose a lot and hocking up all kinds of pretty stuff here 2 weeks later. Good times.

  17. For the uses you've proposed, I think you'll get more bang for your buck by purchasing a desktop that you stow away behind your entertainment center or what have you. My old computer had a 1.98Ghz processor with 512Mb RAM and it did OK with streaming video. For under $500 you could find a computer with much better specs than that which should assure you a solid looking stream. If I were you, I'd buy a mediocre $300 PC like this one as an example, and then buy/install a nice video card with an HDMI output because as far as I know HDMI out on a PC is not something you find in cheaper/used models. I'm far from an expert though. The Friendly Geek is always super helpful to folks on this board, you may want to look at throwing some business his way as I'm sure he could get you just what you want at a reasonable price.

  18. I rarely get on here anymore. Not that I don't love my pcom family. I just stay so busy here lately. But, I thought let's see what is happening in pcom land tonight.... I now know why God sent me here. I remember when all of this first happened. I have seen updates over the last year as well. When I first saw this post. All I could think was dear Lord don't let that be who I think it is. It took 4 pages of reading before my worst fears were confirmed. Denise your love and light shine!!! Through out this whole ordeal you have shown grace. Which is a trait that few have anymore. I am in awe of you every time I read one of your posts. As I have many times in the last year, I wonder how I would behave. I can only hope to be half as gracious as you have been. You are faced with yet another great loss and pain. Yet somehow you come in here and comfort us. Even those of us who have never even met you, Phillip, Tamsen, nor Ashton, yet feel we know you. Feel the loss, fear such loss. Sorry does not seem sufficient. The light in my heart tells me all things happen for a reason. Yet it doesn't make it ok just yet. As well as many others you guys are on my mind and in my prayers. Thank you for the lessons you guys have taught us. We can all get so wrapped up in our day to day, that it is easy to forget that work, bills, money, trials and tribulations do not move on with you. It is easy to justify fussing at your children to leave you alone..."your busy!" Anger that your hubby didn't pick up his dirty clothes What if he were not there? What if there were no children to fuss at? These things seem mundane in light of what you face. Thank you for that reminder. Thank you for helping us all see what is truly important. Ashton has touched many. In the days & weeks ahead. I know from personal experience (not a child tho) that you will be on an emotional roller coaster. Just know that there are 100's of people that are praying for you & your family. I can not even come close to imagining what all this must be like for Tamsen. God willing I never will. As a nurse, I know we are all dying. However, we as humans like the comfort of the general life process. You don't bury your kids and you sure as heck never expect to bury your grand babies. When that order is changed. There is no way to prepare for that.

Very few will actually ask for help when it is needed. However, please do. I will also donate to Ashton's funeral service but should you need anything else call anytime 770-505-3207. Much love and prayers. Kristi and Eric

ps...I know Liberty Lady you do so much for so many. I know you will come up with something above and beyond donating to his funeral fund. Please, please call. I would be more than glad to help!!
