  1. LR, it's all lies. In fact there have been several rape victims that came out and said how Nathan Deal had helped prosecute the men who did this to them.

It's politics as usual ~~sigh~~ I absolutely despise dirty campaigning. :( I can't wait for November 3. :drinks:

How one prosecutes the law has nothing to do with how they legislate.

A prosecutor is sworn to uphold the law which, ya know, kind of involves putting rapists behind bars. A legislator is tasked with creating, eliminating, strengthening, or weakening existing law. Deal, per his own public record, repeatedly LEGISLATED to WEAKEN and/or ELIMINATE laws that protect the rights of rape victims.

Surely you aren't attempting to pretend we're too dumb to recognize your ridiculous spin on this?

  2. So tell me Fox, how confident are you of the knowledge base of the GOP candidate? Here's a little video from earlier this year when she deemed it appropriate to talk publicly.

H.O.L.Y. Shnikes! Are you kidding me? That's the first opportunity I've had to hear her speak on the issues. I'm speechless.

I think it would be a grand idea for this website, as the owners of one of the few pieces of footage where Ms. Braddock actually got in front of the public to discuss the issues during this campaign season, to splice together a montage of her opinions on the issues and present them in their own thread where we can all discuss. Similar to this thread but we'll just be left to discuss an old video....but I suppose it's better than nothing.

  3. To be fair, because I know that Avery's list makes Braddock's list look like kind of, eh, lacking (?), I was going to start another thread showing photos taken with political figureheads but just didn't think the interest was there. Ms. Braddock definitely makes up for any lack of substance on the issues with an uncanny ability to set up in Atlanta to get pictures with people more influential than she and post them on her websites. Mr. Avery is severely lacking in this area.

Great job. You must be bored.

It's an important race and we should have an informed electorate. Are you inferring that each candidate's published platform isn't relevant information? Or are you just embarrassed by your candidate's platform?

  4. Just thought I would compile Will Avery and Paulette Braddock's positions on issues that impact Paulding county and the 19th. This information is taken directly from their websites and presumably represents their aims and objectives if they were elected to represent the 19th.

    Paulette Braddock

    PRIORITIES & GOALS:

    * Ensure responsible government spending

    * Economic and business growth in Georgia to create jobs

    * Lower taxes on individuals and businesses

    * Policies that allow more individual choice

    * Less liberty-limiting legislation

    * Pro-life policies that honor the sanctity of life of the unborn

    On Education

I uniquely understand the importance of a quality education. Both my mother and father were public school teachers and I am a product of Georgia’s public education system from kindergarten through college. Both my wife, Laurien, whose mother is also a teacher, and I are educators as well, and we plan to enroll our daughter Norah in the Paulding County School System when she is old enough. This is why I have a passion for ensuring the success of Georgia’s public schools. I believe:

    · …that the current leadership under the Gold Dome has proven time and time again that they do not value the education of our children, which has been demonstrated through deep budget cuts on the backs of teachers, parents and students.

    · …that there should never be any need to make a single cut to public education, and as your Representative, I will never vote for a single bill that cuts funding from our schools.

    · …rather than making blanket cuts to our schools, we need to find alternative sources of revenue, outside of raising taxes, to close the gaps in the budget.

    · …there should never be any need to furlough teachers or increase class sizes.

    · …in order to ensure that Paulding County has the best teachers, we must pay them competitively, and therefore I am against Merit Pay, which adversely affects historically under performing schools. Our educators are professionals who deserve to be treated with respect and courtesy, as your Representative, I will be a voice for Georgia educators in Atlanta.

    · …we must ensure that our children are given every chance to obtain a college degree. I believe that we must continue to fund the HOPE Scholarship and public higher educational institutes, while looking to expand Georgia’s community and technical college system to include more areas, including Paulding County.

    On Paulding’s Working Middle Class

I know that the working middle class sustains Paulding County. I believe we need to focus on policy measures that strengthen the power that you have, and make sure that every Paulding County resident can find work. The economic crisis we now find ourselves in has affected the working middle class the most, and legislative action under the Gold Dome must reflect the needs of the heart of Paulding County.

    On Business and Job Creation

I love supporting local businesses, because they are the economic heart of Paulding County. Once again, the politicians in Atlanta have put our local businesses in harm’s way through their neglect of the working man. Having been employed at a number of local small businesses, I have seen firsthand the struggles that small business owners have had to face in this tough economy. As a surveyor at the Bentley-Craton Group, I was charged with making tough decisions that affected both the operating budget and the employees of the business. I will, in order to ensure the success of Paulding County’s bustling business community:

    · …discourage giving multibillion dollar corporations in Atlanta huge tax breaks, while leaving local businessmen and women in Paulding County out to dry.

    · …support giving tax credits to small business owners for hiring new employees, which will help decrease unemployment in Paulding County.

    · …respect both employers and employees. Without a workforce that is content with their working conditions, Georgia’s businesses will be inefficient and unproductive.

    · …seek to pass laws that will help make Georgia more attractive to large companies and industry.

    On Taxes

I believe there are some serious issues with Georgia’s tax system. I understand how hard Paulding County residents work to earn a living, and I therefore want to make sure that you are able to keep more of your money. I believe:

    · …that taxes should never be increased for middle and lower class Americans.

    · …that huge corporations like Delta should not be given multimillion dollar tax breaks on items like jet fuel while you can't pay to fill up you car!

    · …that tax exemptions, like the Grocery Sales Tax exemption, that affect all Georgians equally are beneficial, and should be preserved.

    On Guns

I believe that the United States Constitution, in the Second Amendment, clearly gives Americans the right to own firearms. Georgia legislation should ensure that those arms are owned legally, and that they stay out of the hands of those that wish us and our children harm. I will never vote to take away your gun owning rights.

    On Water and the Environment

We need to ensure that Paulding County's future isn't engulfed by the water crisis facing metro Atlanta. As your Representative, I will assure that our water ways are preserved, so that businesses will still be able to develop, while assuring that our environment is protected from unnecessary encroachment. We must approach the current water crisis with Florida and Alabama with both a sense of urgency and of diplomacy to ensure that solutions are found.

    On Transportation

Paulding County is directly involved in the transportation crisis that encircles metro Atlanta. Many of our residents commute daily into Atlanta, and many more of us are forced to use overly congested roads to get from home to work. Beyond that, we are wasting our gas because of a great lack of mass transit systems available to Paulding County—a problem that plagues most of Georgia. I sincerely believe that, unless we reform our transportation infrastructure, Georgia will not be able to compete with other southern states to gain business, and we as a state will fall further behind. I pledge:

.…to work to expand affordable mass transit options, such as light rail, which will serve to connect new parts of the state with one another.

...to help improve Paulding's transportation in order to make our county more desirable to industry and small business. Without these necessary improvements, Paulding will continue to experience a competitive disadvantage in the job market

    On Ethics

More and more, Georgians are being subjected to seeing their elected officials entangled in ethics scandals. From bribery to lying, elected officials are being allowed to act freely—oftentimes with your tax dollars. I sincerely believe that we need to have much stronger ethics laws in place so we can rein in corruption at all levels of government. As your Representative, I will:

    · …fight for laws that will strengthen accountability and honesty in elected officials’ and candidates’ reporting of contributions and gifts.

...fight for increased transparency in Georgia's governing process so that all citizens are able to view firsthand their representatives at work

  5. Wow! That's a pretty presumptuous and naive statement regarding Delta being firmly planted in Georgia. There are other airports in the southeast that would gladly work behind the scenes to lure Delta's hub away from Atlanta. I think you would be caught off guard and leave Georgians scratching their heads much like the politicians in Dayton, OH who watched NCR transfer their headquarters to Gwinnett County, GA last year. Never say never. http://www.daytondailynews.com/business/local-ncr-employees-being-told-whether-they-will-get-jobs-in-ga--223655.html

Memphis, TN comes to mind as a competitor for Delta. It may not happen immediately but there are always other options for Delta besides Atlanta. http://finchannel.com/news_flash/Travel_Biz_News/72951_Delta_Air_Lines_Adding_Sixth_International_Destination_from_Memphis/

"Delta Air Lines (NYSE: DAL) on October 12 announced it is adding a sixth international destination from its hub at Memphis International Airport with a new weekly flight to Mexico City beginning Jan. 8, 2011."

    and

“From our new flights to Mexico to our long-standing and highly successful daily nonstop flights to Amsterdam, we take very seriously our role in connecting Memphis to the world and remain committed to this hub’s success.”

And the minute Delta chooses to leave Atlanta, one of the world's most extensive and impressive airports, another carrier will come swooping in to take advantage of the vacancy.

I like the fact that Will Avery is willing to make large established business stand on its own instead of coddling them with corporate welfare. It's a very free market approach that puts the onus on the corporation to compete for survival, which all our "true conservatives" (saw that on a sign once) should be thrilled to hear.

  6. Deal's adds are embarrassingly bad...."let me try to scare you into voting for me by playing the most out-of-context soundbytes of my opponent that I can find!". It's like his entire campaign is based upon the premise that we're all a bunch of ignorant rednecks.

  7. There are kids and family members that might have fared a lot better without the stress something like this may have caused. $1700 is not enough $ to throw your life away. She could have had it expunged but she didn't, it's a little late now. ;)

As an aspiring politician, you do everything in your power to ensure a clean record. She didn't and, personally, I believe it's because she didn't have much choice in the matter.

  8. The answer is no, we do not/did not represent her in her bankruptcy. Any more stupid questions to this typical lawyer???

Edited to answer the community service question. I assume it was part of the agreement.

BTW, I do have one more question.....do you or your firm represent her in her Xerox suit?

  9. I'm researching the info and people that are referenced on your FB "Will Avery for Georgia House District 19" page:

    Admins.

    ■Brooks Emanuel (Atlanta, GA)

    ■Cris Sanhueza (Chattanooga, TN)

    ■Steve Golden (Alston & Bird)

    ■Will Avery (creator)

Facebook page admins means they are admins on the facebook page...not campaign admins

I'm not part of Will's campaign, no idea if any of those guys are part of his campaign, but what you just posted doesn't have anything to do with their standing in his campaign.

Typical lawyer...so let me ask again (and I'm not asking in what capacity you're posting) do/did you or your firm represent Braddock in her bankruptcy?

And one more time, why did she do community service?

  11. With all due respect, you have no idea what you are talking about when you make statements like "a diversion program is an admission of guilt without being recorded as such." Please re-read my post. As for your second question, it depends; however, if a person is withdrawn from the program (ie violating the terms of the program), the State could attempt to prosecute, just as the accused has the right to defend the case. A nolle prosequi is not entered until the person completes the program.

If an employer or the INS either found out about a pretrial diversion, it is up to their interpretation whether it is an admission of guilt or not...just as a voter, it is up to my interpretation whether her pre-trial diversion was an admission of guilt. So yes, in fact, imo it is an admission of guilt without being recorded as such.

Secondly, you never answered why she chose to do the community service if she was innocent?

Thirdly, and perhaps most importantly, have you or your firm served as legal counsel for Braddock in her bankruptcy proceedings? If so, does that not mean that everything you've said in this thread has been said in regards to a client who pays you to represent her innocence?

    mrnn

  12. It is abundantly clear from your questions that you did not take the time to read my post.

I absolutely read your post. Perhaps you could answer the questions I've asked?

A diversion program is an admission of guilt without being recorded as such in one's record. This prevents deportations, employment concerns, etc., while still handing a punishment down to the defendant. It is essentially the prosecutor saying that they will not press charges AT THIS TIME if the defendant performs something such as community service.

Is it not true that if Braddock convicted another crime within one year of the diversion program, the prosecutor then has the right to TRY and CONVICT her on the arrest?

  13. Pubby:

Your statements above are grossly inaccurate. It is true that Ms. Braddock was indicted for a felony crime. However, she did not enter any plea in the case other than a NOT GUILTY plea. She certainly did not enter a nolo contendere plea, which requires a plea in front of a judge. As a side note, Georgia generally does NOT use nolo pleas on DUI cases because the consequences are the same whether or not you plead nolo. In fact, a defendant cannot as a matter of law enter a nolo plea where the BAC level is .15 or more. It is possible to do a nolo plea to DUI, but it is extremely rare and judges generally do not permit them.

As for Ms. Braddock, the charge was DISMISSED against her, as indicated in the link you cited. It does not matter whether someone has a prior record or not in qualifying for pre-trial diversion, although it certainly helps. Pre-trial diversion is typically used for minors in posession of alcohol (to avoid a conviction earlier in life), possession of less than an ounce of marijuana (sometimes considered victimless crime), domestic disputes between family members (to preserve family unity), and where cases are WEAK and it is best for all parties to resolve without the time and expense of proceeding to a trial. In Ms. Braddock's case, my suspicion is that the case was weak, coupled with the lack of a prior criminal history.

It is factually wrong for some to claim she pleaded guilty or had to admit her guilt or even committed a crime (which implies that a conviction was obtained). To the contrary, she pleaded NOT GUILTY and, following the completion of the pre-trial diversion program, the charge was nolle prossed, meaning the State can never pursue the case again. She also did not pay a fine as suggested, which can only be imposed where a party is convicted or pleads nolo. There is a fee, though, to participate in the pre-trial diversion program.

I realize most folks are unfamiliar with the pre-trial diversion program (which, quite frankly, is probably a good thing since it means you have not enrolled in it before). However, I think we need to be cautious in making assumptions and accusations about criminal behavior by individuals, whether they are running for office or not.

So 1000 hours of community service or whatever the duration was, that was just for kicks? Are you denying that a diversion program is intended for individuals who are guilty of a crime but, in the court's eyes, not worthy of a mark on their permanent record? Is it not a compromise?

    mrnn

  14. I don't think it's as black and white of a question as you're asking, Pubby....atleast not what the court is looking at in this case.

Kidd was held as nothing more than a witness for what was it, 3 weeks? But really, holding a witness I have no issue with, the thing I have issue with is the way that he was held. He was treated as a prisoner and, more specifically, almost an enemy prisoner. THAT'S why he should have a lawsuit. The whole "witness" label was a guise by the Federal Government to hold him while they figured out why he was going to Saudi Arabia.

I think making the Feds exempt from civil suits would be absolutely idiotic. There is already a safeguard built in whereas a judge must approve apprehension. In this case, the judge was lied to by the FBI. Had the judge been given the truth, Kidd likely would have never been taken into custody as a "witness" (who never served as a witness, btw). Also, had Kidd been put up in a hotel under protective custody while awaiting trial, he likely wouldn't have sued.

  15. I used to watch those two shows years ago, when they were not completely products of the democtat socilist propaganda machine as they are now. The reporters on those two shows invented the in your face reporting that you are complaining about. Yes, I am proud to say, that I do watch Fox News now.

Yeah, because nothing says "democtat socilist propaganda machine" like 20/20's To Catch a Predator.

  16. Wanting to know there are no skeletons in the closet is irresponsible partisanship??? We've been fooled one too many times in this district. I have a hard time believing he's not a liberal progressive and I am looking for proof.

Surepip knows I am not beyond being convinced. In fact I was totally against SPLOST (not ESPLOST) until the thread in which he convinced me it was for the good of the county. I voted yes based on what I learned. I've been around the block a few times and have become a little harder to convince, especially when it comes to politics.

I could believe that those are your genuine motives with these questions if it weren't for your blatant disregard for "skeletons", hell, a whole crypt of bones, in Will's opponent's closet. You can't defend 2 arrests (one on a felony count), a false claim of conservatism, illegal campaign funding, and a business bankruptcy in one post and then get in another post and pretend that an affiliation with a student group supporting a presidential candidate is a deal breaker for your vote. I mean really? Can you not see how disingenuous you are coming across?

You're an informed, smart woman....I'd just expect better of you. I mean if your boy Ithy read this thread you'd have him blushing.

  17. You know mrnn, I have never called you a name or insinuated you were anything other than who you say you are. I think you are the one that needs to grow up.

I am honestly sickened by the tactics used to try to smear a squeaky clean candidate in one post and defend his felon opponent in another. It's irresponsible partisanship which I have ABSOLUTELY no respect for. In other words, it's your tactics that are earning my ire, not you.

  18. Let me get this straight, so you are sayingm that the TV reporters for 60 minutes and 20 20 are punk reporters? That is the way those and other reporters operate.

I think you're mistaken....the reporters from 60 Minutes and 20/20 are professionals who do not chase innocent people into corners and badger them like freaking gnats. Besides, they don't show 60 Minutes or 20/20 on Fox News, how the hell would you know what they do on those shows?
