  1. I haven't finished it yet.

Several friends asked me to read it, because they wanted my thoughts on it. I could probably finish it in less than an hour, but I haven't done it yet. I stopped when I did because I wanted time to digest what I'd read so far.

I don't know how it ends, but so far, I like what I've read. God has often spoken to me through visions or word pictures, which is basically what this fictional book is. There are a couple of amazing quotes in the book!

I think it's a GREAT way for people to examine what kind of relationship they have with God. What I like so far is the way each person of God is described and why. That's cool.

    Enjoy the rest of it!!!

    :)

  2. My God woman! Did you read the topic? It is supposed to be a brainless answer. Sheez. Are you married? Poor fella.

That's the stuff I don't have to think about!!!

    :p

I eat that roast beef however it hangs outta the bun. No knives involved. ;)

Oh, now see, that's a whole other thing....if there's meat hanging outside of the bun, I tear it off, and set it to the side. It's got to all fit in the bread or I'm not happy.

(Gosh, when I see it in print, I'm beginning to think I may really have a problem! )

  3. Today, I was eating some chewy sweettarts. Cute little bb looking things. I eat them without thinking, but today, I wondered if anyone does it quite the way I do.

With any candy of this sort (M&Ms, Skittles, etc.) I pour out a handful. I look at how many of each color there are. For example, I had 4 pinks, 4 yellows, 5 green and 6 purple. First, I eat the "extras." (1 green and 2 purples.) Then, I eat one of each IN RAINBOW ORDER! until they are all gone. (Note: the only exception to this is Skittles. I eat them in REVERSE rainbow order, because RED is my favorite - and you must always save the best for last!!!)

I do realize that many of you who know me, may wish that you didn't anymore!!!

So....does anybody else want to share? 8)

  4. For the OCD in me, most definitely straight down the middle. It's the only way to get the sandwich symmetrical. You get the same amount of top, middle and side for both halves.

Although, when I cut it for my sons, I usually do it diagonally. It's physically easier, because when you make the sandwich, it's sitting straight in front of you, and the way you hold the knife in your hand makes it easier to make the diagonal cut.

    Thanks for asking!

  5. I, unfortunately, see an attitude I'm not pleased with in not only parents, but teachers as well.

Last spring, when our (then) 8th grader was choosing classes for his freshman year, one of his teachers advised him that he should only take 1 or 2 advanced classes because of his extra-curricular activities. :o <_<

I guess our son was a little disappointed to find out that WE value academics more than the other stuff. We reminded him of our household priorities, that his education came first, and he would participated in extra-curricular activities only IF his grades remained acceptable.

So, yes, he took ALL advanced classes this year, and kept his A average! :)

  6. I'm so sorry for your loss. I can't imagine the pain you feel.

I wish that I knew him so that I could join you in celebrating the short life that he lived. I'm sure that you have been left with many happy memories of a great son. Try to focus on those today.

And thank you for sharing this with us, so that we could know about him, too!

    {{{{{hugs}}}}}

  7. My cousin was killed in 1981. She was 9 months pregnant at the time. Her husband had been having an affair, and knew she would never give him custody of their 2 year old son, so he hired 2 men to kidnap her and kill her.

An ambulance driver saw her car off the side of the road on his way to work (this was in Pine Mountain.) Her knee was sticking up in the back window. He thought it was a car with teenagers making out. On his way back by, he saw that the position was the same. He pulled over, and found her.

When the hospital called my aunt to come, she thought she was going to find her new grandbaby. They had tried to save him. They cut his little cheek trying to get to him in time, but it was too late. He was buried in his Mommy's arms.

The hitmen received life in prison. Her scum husband was sentenced to death (in Alabama, because they lived just over the state line.)

I was listening to the radio while driving to work one morning in 1992. The newscaster said that Alabama had executed a prisoner the day before. Larry Gene Heath paid the price for the lives he took.

I posted this once in a thread about the death penalty.

I believe in the death penalty. I believe it is a consequence for the perpetrator's actions. In my opinion, it is not a matter of people passing judgment on another person's life. Penalties are set in place for certain behaviors. Laws and punishment for the breaking of those laws exist to keep order in society. By perpetrating a crime, the guilty places himself in a position of that consequence being administered. Personal responsibility.

  8. Are we talking in code? :ninja:

Okay, but who's willing to sit across from me?

    Me, me, me!!!

I will sit across from you. (I can duck under the table fast enough!)

I would assume that I'm not welcome.

    :(

    Sad. But probably true.

    **sigh**

    Not true AT ALL!

You can sit next to me. I'll save your seat! (We movie "stars" have to stick together!) :D

  9. Guitar Hero rocks -- I love that my 11 yr old knows all the words to Eye of the Tiger, Living on a prayer etc.

He told me "Mom the old music from your era is COOL"

    LOL

We've always played "our" music around our kids.

We were out to dinner one night with another family. We heard some familiar notes, and our entire family broke into, "I got my first real six-string....bought it at the five and dime..."

One of the kids from the other family looked around the table and said, "I've never heard this song. How does your WHOLE family know it?!" :D

They've been raised on 8Os music. They know it's the BEST EVER!!!!

  10. I was feeling a little nostalgic today. Plugged in the Ipod in the car, and cranked up Slippery When Wet. I picked up my 8 year old (who amazes me with the songs he knows thanks to our taste in music and playing his 15 year old brother on Guitar Hero!)

We're riding along, singing our songs, when he belts out, "Whoooooaaaa, we're half way there....Ohhhhhh, living on a PRAIRIE!"

It just cracked me up!

  11. You don't have to butt in, just go over and explain that it was mentioned she wasn't feeling well. Let them know if they need you or an emergency pops up to not hesitate to call and give them your #'s....tell them you care and are there for em. That you wanted em to know but don't want to intrude and then leave :)

    Exactly what I would do.

I hope your friend will be okay!

  12. Dear Lord, I am sure that your husband's head almost blew up from swelling up so large......

Don't tell anyone, but he is a decent guy.

Yeah, we've got to do what we can to keep him humble!

Your husband is a blessed guy too. Don't you forget it, either. Your boy seems to be growing up just like him too. I'm sure you have said "you are just like your dad" many times. I also sure that scares you sometimes when he says things that might be "questionable".   Happy Mothers Day. B)

Scare me? Nah! I like his dad so much, that I'm glad there's going to be another one just like him!!!

  13. Don't you love the things they say?! Yesterday we were listening to a cd I had burned and a Bob Dylan song came on. There was another song after that one I wanted to hear more, so after several sentences I changed it to the next song without saying a word. Then, from out of the back seat this relieved little 7 year old voice said, 'Yeeaaaa, I didn't think he could sing either'. Hubby almost ran off the road laughing and I was just as tickled. What a kid!!!

  14. My husband is a nut. Those who know him will tell you that is really an understatement! He's a fun guy, and always makes me laugh.

Tonight, our 8 year old had spend the night company. We were sitting at dinner, and Dad was entertaining the little fellows - what he does best. It didn't take long, and the boys were rolling with laughter.

My son looked at me and said, "Mom, thanks for picking such a great Dad for me!"

As a mother, that's about the best Mother's Day gift I could have....to know that our children know how much we love them, and that they're happy with our family!

  15. With all due respect, the excerpt from the stepparent website is good. I strongly agree with some of what is stated there, and strongly DISAGREE with some, as well.

I will come back to add my thoughts (for what they're worth) later when I find more time.

ETA: The most important thing in this (and I believe any situation) is that both husband and wife (parent & stepparent) are on the SAME PAGE when handling their family (biological kids, adopted kids, and stepkids.) One person calling the shots and saying this is the way it will be will NEVER lead to a successful marriage, much less a successful blended family. It just shifts the dysfunction.
