  1. Actually brought tears to my eyes. I truthfully have not thought of many of those things in years.

Thank you for that nice flash back,

You forgot the constant smell of fresh cut grass all summer long mmmm!

  2. Laurie,

    Thanks for sharing your experiences.

I don't understand though why you say that your "not eating meat for many years did nothing to curb or deter this terrible practice."

I know that when I ate meat a certain number of animals died because of what went on my plate. That stopped in 1990. If people stopped eating meat that was raised inhumanely there would cease to be a market and such practices would end.

I believe that the demand by many people like ourselves to purchase free range animal products and organic foods, has done more to change these practices than not eating meat at all.

We have created a market that is being filled,

You have not begun to get all the callous, and uncaring remarks about tree huggers yet.

There will always be a large number of the population that just can not be bothered to care,

Their mind set is the same as the people that continue to practice these obominations.

Since this is mainly a conversation between you and I,

I would like to share with you what I deal with on a regular basis,

Most of my clientele are middle aged,

Who have come to a point in their lives that they have no energy, they are over weight,

High blood pressure, Type 2 diabetes, sexual dysfunction, low self esteem.

They have figured out they must excercise.

    Eating right is the problem,

They all think they eat too much.

Trying to get through to them that the us gov. will allow companies to add things to the food that they eat will cause all these conditions, is nearly impossible.

It takes weeks to get through to them that there bodies do not recognize many chemicals, fats, sweeteners.

and highly processed foods as a food,

The body simply stores as much as possible as fat and signals the body it needs more food,

They need to prepare at least 80% of what they eat from natural unprocessed foods to truly improve thier health.

Yes it is more difficult. But so is feeling and looking terrible,

Yes it is more expensive, but not as exspensive as doctors visits, and drugs.

If we all ate meat sparingly and demanded it be fresh, with no chemical additives,

The animals would be better off and so would we.

I do not think our thread will be very popular.

unless we want to blame this stuff on Bush and God.

It is fun to have someone to discuss issues I care about with.

  3. This, like anything, has many facets to it. My uncle has been a beef cattle farmer for many, many years. My family have raised calves over the years to be butchered into meat. The fact is that many animals only exist to be food for humans. I don't have a problem with it. We knew as children not to name the calf that was going to be butchered. But, then again, I didn't name and bond with the tomatoes and the cabbages either.

Having said that, I tend to avoid meat and animal products that are not organic, etc. There are several companies that are raising animals in the same way that we did growing up - out in fields, eating grass, minimal doctoring (okay, we gave the calf antibiotics when it got caught up in the wild roses and was all cut up; we, however, did not give antibiotics prophalatically because we only had one calf), etc. The fact is that if you will try it - the meat is much better. It's a little more expensive. But, it's worth it to us. My family is hooked on cage free brown eggs - alot of time there's still chicken "stuff" on the eggs, just like growing up.

If you want to find meat raised in a better way, you can find it.

I do this also, the cage free eggs actually taste better, well worth the extra you pay.

I have no problem with good old fashioned, decent animal husbandry,

    Or the practice of hunting,

But if you read these articles you will never feel the same, about eating meat from these factories.

As BF, mentioned many of the people in the industry do not last long, The suffering is just too much for them.

Farmers, farmed for generations with no problems like this.

I have found the same way of fighting this problem like you, with the power of my money.

  4. Hello Butterflylion,

This information is not new to me.

I was a vegan for years.

My not eating meat for many years did nothing to curb or deter this terrible practice.

I have read many of these articles over the years.

    They are all true.

    They turn my stomach.

I eat meat now in moderation.

But it is never without the thought that some animal has suffered this cruel existance.

For now this is all I can do.

Have hope, nature has a way of balancing itself out.

If these articles interest you, then I am sure you have read articles about the cause of mad cow disease.

Caused by disgusting practices in the feeding of these creatures.

I am positive that although I have not come across it, we will find a similar cause for bird flu.

With all the deaths from aids and the horror it caused, plus the uproar about homosexuals spreading, it was quickly forgotten were it came from.

Which was lab test on monkeys to cure the common cold.

Humans basicly know right from wrong, and greed has a way of making people look the other way.

I believe in the innate intelligence of the universe and everything in it.

The universe continues to exist through balance.

So whether or not I ever eat any more meat, geneticly altered food,

or use a drug tested on animals,

The universe will seek to balance itself,

If the death or suffering of millions of humans is a consequence,

    Then it shall be.

    The universe has no conscious,

    Human, bird, fish, honey bee.

There is a consequence for every action.

  5. Most of us feel good when we give of ourselves.

Some give money some give time and some give of themselves to friends and family.

It is important to always hold something back for ones self.

You need resources from which to give.

When you give everything there is truly nothing left to give, and eventually you will become a burden to someone, somewhere, somehow,

    It becomes a viscious cycle.

I have seen women do this many times with their family.

I have seen people do it with their finances to help family or friends.

Giving is a wonderful and rewarding thing.

But as in all things it must be done in a balanced way.

  6. ya know ... moderation is our friend! you can have alll you want if you just moderate (or make excuses and then walk MILES to get it off!) .... hope you are enjoying!! :)

I really did stop at 3.

    Now I am drinking water.

I will not go into a scientific explanation here,

But drinking lots of water after eating sweets does help with the bloated sensation after you eat them.

Every one falls off the wagon,

You are so right about moderation.

Balance is the key to a fit lifestyle,

You should know ,you are a success story!

  7. it's gotta be pretty bad when the personal trainers' crackin in to the truffles :D

Truffles are a sin! A sin I tell you.

I stopped at 3 for now.

My daughter walked in and stuck her nose in the box,

I growled like a rabid dog.

They are mine I tell you all mine.

My pms is covered for uh uh ,

Well at least until next month.

And by the way pms is a valid medical condition.

And we all know it only has one cure.

I am self medicating with an over the counter drug.

    Perfectly legal ya know.

  8. Sorry if this is not in the right spot. I am a maid of honor in my best friends wedding, and I am throwing the bridesmaid lncheon. We want it to be simple and elegant and relaxing. Anyone have any good recipes they suggest that are easy but still delicious. Thanks!!!!!!

I suggest you go to Sams,

They have a lot of very beautiful and delicous o'dourves.

You may also find some more things in the frozen food section that will do very nicely.

This is what i do when I am having a large get together.

You can get fresh veggie anf fruit tays there also.

My family was very impressed this Christmas,

My sister also likes to serve tenderloin at dinner parties.

She also wraps fresh aspagus in bacon and broils it.

The tenderloin sliced down the middle of the tray w/ the aspargus fanned around and cherry tomatoes as ganish looks very elegant.
