  1. Does any one up in Burnt Hickory know how much rain has fallen so far up there so far?

I have this nasty feeling like I have to go check on things after work and I wasn't planning on coming home tonight. :D

I am sitting here in Atlanta wondering if I should head west!

  2. As for this quote...  I Called the school and thats what they told me.  So I then called the BOE they told me the same thing!!!  There is a theard on here about it somewhere.  I posted in "real time" while I was in between phone calls with the school and the BOE.  Like you, I thought the prinicple makes that decision!  Before you knock someone you should check 1st!

I wasn't knocking you. My neighbor is a middle school principal and I called his cell just to be sure. He said that he can bring the kids in anytime he thought it was warranted and didn't need BOE approval to do such.

  3. After Hurricane Frances came through and I called the school to see if the kids in the trailers were brought into the school because of high winds and they told me "No", They would only be brought in when someone from the BEO calls and tells them to do so, and no one had called".

I decided to keep my boys home today. Mainly because all the schools south and west of Paulding were closed. The schools closed around us, Carroll County, Carrollton city schools, Douglas County, Floyd County, Haralson County, and Polk County.

Seeing how Hurricane Ivan is coming from the southwest it would hit Paulding before Cobb....right? So what if Cobb's BOE was waiting to see if we (Paulding) closed to make thier decision weather or not to close. Seems silly to me. Paulding needs to make executive decisions on their own!!!

These weather threads are just insane. If *anyone* within Paulding County thought it wouldn't be safe for the kids to be in school today, they would have closed them. Cobb does this, Douglas does that yada, yada, yada. Paulding County BOE *did* make an executive decision and did not close. Simple as that. And, I really don't think that the BOE has to call every school in the system and tell them to bring the kids in - that is crazy. That is the prinicpal's decision and he/she can make that at any time.

  4. Everybody has said or thought at one time or another that they would die for something. Their spouse, child, other family members, their country, their beliefs..

I saw a little boy, maybe 6, at lunch today. It was obvious he had cancer. Two women had taken him shopping and to eat. I hate seeing any child suffer for any reason at all. Like it would to most of you, it really upset me.

Then the thought crossed my mind that if I could trade places with him, I would.

At least, I believe that I would. But then, it isn't even a real possibility.

And I am not trying to sound like some kind of great person. I am far from that!

So, the question is: If it were possible only to trade places with someone with a fatal condition, would you?

    What would you die for?

My God, my children and my spouse.

  5. I loved the new DAVE radio until I turned it on this morning and it was Barnes from 99X and some chick named Froofroo. I did not listen to 99X in the a.m. because I did not like their morning show. This Barnes fellow is trying to re-create the 99X morning show on DAVE w/ Froofroo posing as Leslie.

I liked hearing music in the morning w/o having to listen to all the filler. :(

Ugh, I thought Barnes was going to find fame and fortune in Hollywood. I never ever liked him on 99x.

  6. Just do not know if I understand all of this. The school tax is a continuation of a tax that does not expire until next year. The reason it is being voted on now, is so they can borrow on the continuation. Is that correct?

I do understand that we do not have as much industry, etc. I do not understand why the people in Paulding pays school property tax until they are 70 years old. In Cobb, Cherokee, Forsyth and numerous other counties, school tax is not paid on property after age 62.

My property taxes are not escrowed, so just wrote a healty check to Little Bill today. Approximately 75% of the bill was for school taxes.

With all of the new construction and the property taxes now collected, I do not understand why my property taxes have doubled in the last 7 years. We have done no major renovations, just keep it properly maintained, which does make it stand out in the neigborhood.

If both SPLOTS pass, does the sales tax stay at 7%? Or, will it go up to 8 or 9% while most other counties are paying 5%?

I am by no means an expert but I think it is because all of the new growth that new tax money is needed. More people=more growth=need more services like building new schools. I hope someone else might be more indepth. The county just can't keep up with the growth with such a small tax base.

Does anyone really have a 5% tax rate besides Clayton?

  7. DMS is too overcrowded to be effective as a learning environment. My son went there for three years and I was shocked at the number of trailers that were added each year.

As a substititute teacher, I would cringe when I was told I had a trailer class. The kids are far more daring in that situation.

Watch documentaries on cable about the consequences that result from overcrowdedness in the correctional institutions. See any similarities?

I don't have a dog in this fight but didn't I read on this site that Dobbins was one of only two middle schools that made standards? I wouldn't call that too overcrowded to be effective as a learning environment.

  8. They have the plans in for submittal at the county(community Development you can call and request to view open records) for the site at 120 and Citizens Square.

There are actually two daycares in that area, I do worry about the increase in traffic over there...

I guess we will all have to wait and see huh

Both of my children are at Ivy Hall. I would like to see what happens also.

  9. I would gladly pay higher gas tax or tolls for roads. In fact, I believe that is how roads should be paid for.

First, these people need to stop having children they can't afford. I'm tired of paying for it. If you can't pay for your children, maybe they should be taken away. (not really, that's just an extreme "let off some steam" kind of statement.) Again, I believe that if somebody is in need of emergency medical care then there should be charitable groups to pay for that care, not government controlled theft.

Notice how they always take from those who have been responsible in their lives to give to those who are irresponsible. Hmmmm...

Do you think that most of these parents thought their children would have developmental disabilites in the womb? Many do not. Do you support aboortzion, Chemmie? Is that what these parents should do? So, if there children are born this way, what should they do? Put them up for adoption? Kill them? What? Most on the Katie Beckett HAVE private insurance but there insurance will not cover there therapy?

Charitable groups are not set up to handle the types of disabilities that most children have. They simply are not. In a perfect rose tinted world, that would happen but that ain't real life, my friend.

  10. I don't think this site has gone downhill at all. I "found" it in April and have truly enjoyed reading and posting a little. To each their own, I guess. You can't find more up to date information on what is going on in Paulding County anywhere else than here, in my opinion.

  11. I have finally had enough. I love going to Buffalo Wild Wings. Their wings are great and the playing NTN trivia is one of my addictions. But as much as I praise the place, they deserve no praise for their service.

So, for the waitress last night, you got the brunt of my frustrations. We have been to the Buffalo Wild Wings no less than 20 times and not a single time have they gotten our order completely correct. Whether we get the wrong sauce, don't get our fries, don't get our dressing or simply wait forever for cold food, something always goes wrong on their part. Last night was no different. We rarely order at the counter, yet we did last night. We sat down and you (the waitress) were very nice and courteous. No problem there. We continued to sit, enjoying our game of trivia. The game was almost completed before our food arrived at our table. 20 minutes for some wings and fries? Oh, then we noticed why. Our food was cold, must have been sitting for a while waiting for you to pick it up. To top it off, I ordered "WILD" sauce, not spicy garlic. We sat there for a few minutes wanting to send it back until we got frustrated and just ate. We completely finished our cold meal before you came back to see us. So that is why you got no tip. So next time you see me in there, don't spit on my food, simply give me better service.

When leaving we told the manager about our consistant poor service. I told her we would be back since there is virtually no alternative as convenient, but they need to get their act together. Since, compared to other areas in town, most of the restaurants in Paulding don't have the best service, I am just assuming Buffalo Wild Wings has become a product of the poor employee pool we have here. Parents, teach your kids how to work for a dollar before sending them out to get a job. Teach them what good customer service is, because from my experience, the employees of Paulding County don't know what it is.

I thought that BWW was much too loud for my liking. Of course, that meant that no one was upset to hear my son fussing but still. My ears were ringing when we left and the food wasn't that great.

  12. My family is thinking of moving to the area...Please give me your thoughts on what makes Paulding county a good place to live! Also, what kid-friendly things are there to do?

Housing is reasonable, taxes are low and the schools are great! Close enough to everything yet far enough away, if that makes sense.

  13. oh.. i so can imagine... and its not a cobb county attorney not wanting to stick it to paulding issue.... its the frustration when all of a sudden the good ole boy takes precedence to the law.... and for all of you that think its not the case... pull you heads out of the sand.... good upstanding attorneys don't want ot waste their time in venues that are not based on law :o ok.. i vented.... shields are up.... so ... bombs away :o

    Tiesinpaulding:

what do you mean by this statement: "good upstanding attorneys don't want ot waste their time in venues that are not based on law" I am confused!

  14. GSU: I agree. It is a dead horse. Yet, some folks just don't understand what a general aviation airport is at all. Look at all the incorrect thoughts just on here! It comes down to this --- without the general aviation airport, Paulding's future is to be the commuter 'burb of Metro ATL, & property taxes will kill even that eventually. We're talking the future of the county here.

So maybe we need to beat this horse some more.

TBAR: so an airport will "save" Paulding County from becoming a commuter 'burb? We already ARE a commuter burb of Atlanta.

I would much rather have an airport than a landfill, that is for sure.

  15. It's interesting that everyone consistently bashes lawyers for their perceived poor behavior, but when we hire a "good" lawyer, we demand he or she act "ruthlessly." Mmmm... So you all really do like your lawyers to be clever, manipulative? Very interesting.

I wouldn't want a lawyer to be manipulative but I would certainly want one that fought for me in the bounds of Georgia law. Isn't that what you pay them for? Besides, I can't imagine a Cobb County lawyer not wanting to stick it to a Dallas lawyer.

My3sons, PM me. I have some good names if you haven't already found another.

  16. Read my post above.

I am better at deciding who to give MY money to.

And back yourself up.  How exactly is the government more apt at determining who is in need?  A government who fails at almost everything they do.  A government where subsidised retirement is going bankrupt.  A government where subsidised health care is going bankrupt.  A government that is in more relative debt than the people who are so-called "in need".  A government that can't support it's own endevours.  A government that is consistantly exploited and ripped off by the people it pays for.

Start naming something the government does correctly, then maybe, just maybe, I will trust them with MY money.

    Chemmie:

Off the top of my head, the roads you ride on, man! Georgia is ranked #1 in the quality of the roads and we have a low gas tax. That is one for ya! That isn't exactly in the realm of food stamps but government is not all bad.

Look at all the parents that receive the Katie Beckett waiver for Medicaid. There children would not be getting the services they need without it. Governor Perdue wants to slash this spending. What are the parents going to do? They can't afford the services so the children will be without treatment. I am not a huge fan of government but I will tell you. if churches and other community groups could and would do these types of things, the government would quickly get out of this business. That is for certain.
