Clark Funeral Home Posted December 16, 2015 Report Share Posted December 16, 2015 (edited) J. Calvin Earwood, age 73, of Dallas, GA, passed away on Wednesday, December 16, 2015. He was born on December 28, 1941, in Hiram, GA, to the late Henry & Lucille Earwood, and was preceded in death by his sisters, Catherine Lester and Shirley Hollis. Mr. Earwood was the owner of Sunbelt Fasteners for 33 years and a member of First United Methodist Church of Dallas. Calvin was also a mason, past Master of Bartlett Lodge, Shriner, founding member of Community Trust Bank, founding Director of Planning for Paulding, INC, Greystone Power Corp 38 year Board Member, Chairman for 9 years, and Oglethorpe Power Corporation Board of Directors for 17 years. Survivors include wife, Julianne Earwood of Dallas, GA; daughters, Jerri Earwood of Dallas, GA, Heather & Shane Phitides of Madison, GA, and Alex & Mike Stephens of Charlotte, NC; stepson, Ken & Stacy Cofer of Alma, GA; brothers, Jimmy & Gayle Earwood of Dallas, GA, Mike & Lajuana Earwood of Dallas, GA, and Anthony & Cindy Thompson of Dallas, GA; sister, Brenda & Donnie Womack of Dallas, GA; grandchildren, Gavan Phitides, Anthea Phitides, Holly Phitides, Brynn Stephens and Elin Stephens; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 18, 2015, at 3 PM, from First United Methodist Church of Dallas, with Reverend Steve Schofield and Reverend Warren Huddleston officiating. Interment will follow in New Canaan Baptist Church Cemetery. Gavan Phitides, Shan Phitides, Mike Stephens, Ken Cofer, Gary Miller, Tim Williams and Chad Earwood will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, December 17, 2015, from 5 PM until 8 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Forward in Faith Fund for the Children’s Educational Building at Dallas First United Methodist Church, 141 E. Memorial Drive, Dallas, GA 30132. I interviewed Mr. Earwood years ago when he was the board chairman for Oglethorpe Power; which provided electric generation for many of the state's Rural Electric Co-ops. He had just put his signature on a half-billion dollar (or was it a billion dollar) bond for construction of power generating equipment.
