gpatt0n
Free food proves popular Helping Hands, which had initially expected to give away five dozen eggs and ten pounds of cheese to five hundred families over a two day period Wednesday and Thursday discovered early Wednesday afteroon that the demand was far greater than the supply. By about 2:40 PM the charitable group was already packing up shop having provided 750 families with five dozen free eggs and cheese. The distribution originally scheduled on Thursday from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. was canceled and the volunteers and staff alike were ready to call it a day ... until a mother with cancer and a child showed up totally busted, in ill health and out of food. The director for the agency Andrea Watson told her how to apply the next day and then realized that the family had no food for today, chased after her and made sure that the mother and son had food for the evening. The woman spoke of her travail in hushed terms to protect her son from not only the news there was no food and the family had lost all its possessions but that she was suffering from cancer. After canceling the free distribution this month, Ms. Watson said that Browns Foods had offered to host the cold storage for next month's distribution, which is rumored to be chicken. I am glad that someone was there to help for today and I sincerely hope that that family finds a more permanent solution to their problems. It is sometimes easy to forget how blessed we truly are. Mrs G
This was copied & pasted from the other thread Yes, I am being lazy...We have to be in Villa Rica at 6:45 but,................I am NOT good at writing so please read this, with that in mind......Caped Crusader called me today and told me that some pcommers had dropped off some food for this lady and we went to pick it up and OMG, it was a lot of food. WE HAVE SOME HUGE HEARTS IN PAULDING COUNTY!!!. This is what makes a "community"!!! Everyone coming together and pitching in, when one of our own is in dire need and this lady just cried. Honest to God.....all the food that was collected, filled the trunk of her car, it was NOT a big car but, the trunk was still a good size. The General said it was at least 100 lbs of food. She should have enough food to last her for a week, at least. I will keep in touch with her and update when I can. But, she gave her sincerest Thanks and cried just about the whole time, we were loading her car. May God Bless You All and may the reward be tenfold!!! Mrs G
