Recommended Posts

James William (Billy) Bullock passed away at his home April 24, 2009. He had suffered from cancer for the past four years. He was 75 years old. Billy was born May 20, 1933 in the Union community in Paulding County, Georgia on the family farm. His great grandmother was raised in Atlanta in the area of the Union Station and when the Caldwell family estate was sold she and his great grandfather Bullock purchased the farm because you could see the city of Atlanta, 45 miles away. She referred to it as a beautiful place where the water flowed in all directions, and she could see her home. Billy was a wonderful husband, a loving father and a firm believer in Freedom, Civil Rights and Justice. He enlisted in the United States Air Force on May 28, 1951. He received his basic training at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi. From there he was shipped to the South Pacific where he served the remainder of his time during the Korean War. On his return to the States, he married Linda Coty Pearson, his wife of 48 years. They resided in Atlanta where he owned and operated Bullock Paving Company. The first black employee to supervise a crew of men in the City of Atlanta worked for Bullock Paving Company. He returned home to the family farm in Dallas to continue his cattle and farming operation. He began raising Charolais, a French breed of cattle. He served as a member of the board of directors of the National Charolais Association representing part of the Southeastern United States. In 1974 a bull he raised, BCF Georgia's Excel E 27, set two World Yearling Wright records for all beef breeds. Both records still stand, they have never been broken. The French Department of Agriculture expressed their appreciation to Billy at the World Charolais Federation Meeting held during the International Day of French Stock in Vichy, France. He owned and operated Rose's Store, a famous landmark in the Union community from 1980 to 1988. He was responsible for the Paulding County Loitering law to be struck down by the Georgia Supreme Court in 1981. After retiring from the store business he raised National Foundation Quarter Horses and Australian Shepard pups on his farm on Billy Bullock Road in Dallas.

He is survived by his beloved wife Linda; daughter, Gina Paige Bullock of Dallas, Georgia; daughter Carla and son-in-law Robert Ullian of Roswell, Georgia; granddaughter, Jessie Ferguson of Dallas, Georgia; grandsons, Ben and Will Ullian of Roswell, Georgia; brother George Bullock and sister-in-law, Nancy Bullock of Dallas, Georgia; brother, Jerry Bullock and sister-in-law, Emily Bullock of Dallas, Georgia; three nephews, Mike and niece-in-law Valerie, of Dallas, Georgia; Stacy Bullock of Temple, Georgia; and Jackson Bullock of Macon, Georgia; three great nephews and many cousins and friends. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, April 26, 2009 at 2 Pm in the Jeff Eberhart Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Wiley Butler and Rev. Glenn Morrow officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Dallas, Georgia. The family will receive friends Saturday night from 5 to 9 at Jeff Eberhart Funeral Home.

Wow! I hate to see this. When DH and I first moved to Paulding 18 yrs ago, we rented our first home together from Billy and Linda. Billy was a great man. He was always good for a great story. I have some really funny memories of him when we all endured the blizzard of 93 on Billy Bullock Rd. I just know that Linda is devastated. My thoughts and prayers go to his family.
