  1. Beef Bourguignon

    Ingredients

6 strips bacon, cut into 1- to 2-inch pieces

3 pounds beef rump, cut into 1-inch cubes

1 large carrot, peeled and sliced

    1 medium onion, sliced

    1 teaspoon salt

    1/2 teaspoon pepper

    3 tablespoons flour

10 ounces beef broth, can condensed

2 cups red or Burgundy wine

    1 tablespoon tomato paste

    2 cloves garlic, minced

    1/2 teaspoon whole thyme

    1 whole bay leaf

    1/2 pound white onions, peeled

    1 pound fresh mushrooms, sliced

    Directions

Sauté bacon in a skillet on stovetop set to medium heat until crisp. Remove bacon and set aside.

Add beef cubes to skillet and brown well. Remove meat and set aside.

Brown carrot and onion in skillet and transfer to stoneware. Season with salt and pepper. Stir in flour, add broth, and mix well.

Add beef and bacon to stoneware, mix, and place in slow cooker heating base.

Add wine, tomato paste, garlic, bay leaf, onions, and mushrooms. Cover; cook on Low for 10-12 hours or on High for 5-6 hours.

  2. Thank you. That's really all I'm saying. And most people at that time of day are on their way home from work for dinner. So they were probably hungry.

But my hubby had leftover poptart from the morning, and a flask of scotch. So he wasn't terribly irate. Just mildly irritated.

You certainly said a lot, to only say that.

While I can understand your frustration, these type of situations require us to step outside of our own circumstances and consider the bigger picture. MANY people tonight had multiple hour commutes due to the weather. (One of my FB friends is still waiting on her husband to be home. It usually takes him 45 minutes to get home. He's going on 5 1/2 hours right now.)

Just a bit of friendly advice....you might want to consider changing your topic title. I consider that to be quite a slanderous statement, especially considering - by your own admission - that your husband was only "mildly irritated."

  3. you know it could very well be someone right there in the neighborhood doing this.

This would be my guess, too. In general, when a certain area is targeted repeatedly, it is someone who knows the area WELL.

This whole situation reminds me of the Victoria Cove situation not too long ago. <_<

  4. I listen to the scanner at work most of the time.

This morning, I heard a deputy say she was in Mill Pointe subdivision, but I don't remember what her code was (and I recognize most of the regular ones.) I was busy, so I couldn't listen closely, but I remember thinking that they must be giving more attention to patrol.

The call for the suspicious vehicle was this afternoon around 3pm. Solo's description of the person is exactly what they said. The vehicle was a faded red pickup truck with all of the letters on it gone except for "Y" & "O".

I never heard any other reference to it (again, busy at work) but it's good to see everyone working together to make sure the perps are caught.

(By the way, I understand the frustration of the homeowners of the community. But I am one of PCSO's biggest fans, and I have every confidence that they are working hard to solve these crimes. I know they will very soon! And I live VERY close to the neighborhood, so I am paying close attention! ;) )

  5. I know it's easy for me to say sitting at my laptop, but thank you all soooo much for sacrificing your time to wait this extra time to vote!

I heard on one of the local stations that they are predicting voter turnout may be as high as 40-45%. That is incredible!

I'm so glad to see so many people getting involved in these important races, and allowing their voices to be heard!

  6. You Republican's just don't understand Democrats.

As Will Rogers said back in the 1930's proclaiming his identification as a Democrat - "I belong to no organized political party, I'm a Democrat."

Until the GOP went about their game of making absurd associations - in essence saying a million times that black is white, black is white, democrats and food stamps, democrats and welfare etc.etc. etc. - most Independents identified themselves as Democrats.

The GOP, on the other hand, is highly organized with documents such as loyalty oaths and promises not to do this and that rampant and on paper. There are the party leaders and the party spiel and the party bosses and the party peons and they all walk in near astonishing lockstep with their eyes fixed firmly on the goal - election.

They revel in the scandals of Democrats and have perpetrated the meme that politics is nothing but corruption and, by so doing, justified their shenanigans to the point that felons can run for office and retain the support of their party.

Democrats, on the other hand, are not in anyway organized in the same way. Every elected Democrat is elected as the representative of their district and do their best to represent the people who elected them. That's why with a super-majority, the Democrats in congress could not push things through without issue because ... well ... some Democrats felt their constituents felt different.

It is the party of the people and there are no loyalty oaths, there are no rules that they follow the lead of any speaker, leader whether their name is Pelosi, Ralston or Cagle. Democrats are independent and at best, loosely associated as a party. It is a real difference that those in the GOP don't understand because they like the hierarchy, regimentation and rules.

Democrats ... we'll we suffer from a lack of hierarchy, regimentation and rules because we don't need no stinking "hierarchy, regimentation and rules."

  7. Hey Madea and News Junky, I'll make a deal with you. I am voting for Will Avery and Roy Barnes, y'all aren't going to change that. Y'all are voting for Paulette and Raw Deal, I'm not going to change that.

I'll bet you both a steak dinner that if your candidates win we will all be regretting it by the end of their terms. And if mine win and we regret it you owe me a steak dinner.

    You guys in?

Hey, now! I want in on this deal. Y'all are ALL some of my favorite people (on Pcom and in real life.) I'm not about to miss this party!
