  1. Looks nice from the pics. I don't need to rent but dang I would love to have that many cabinets in my kitchen. Good luck & I hope you get some good tenants.

    Love love the kitchen..That is what made me pick this floor plan! I seriously love to cook and have everything imagiable. But still have empty cabinets...I also have a huge pantry that is off the kitchen..So plenty of storage in this house.

  2. After reading this story..I feel like Ryan King is more of a hero :wub: He died fighting! I still wonder what it would be like over there if we had stayed focused on the first war instead of starting another in IRAQ..I pray for all the troops in Afghanistan and the selfish side of me is glad my DH will be home in a few months for good.

  3. I travel for work also - you all need to stay in cleaner hotels from the sounds of it. :lol:

    Great..I'm going on a trip soon..You think they keep those Military rooms clean? I'm hoping :unsure:

    I just remembered that chick on SNL had bedbugs and sued..She was in an expensive highrise..So it doesn't matter how clean the place is or how expensive.. :angry:

  4. Slavery ended in 1865 (13th Amendment to the Constitution)... If you were born after that, you are an American. No two ways about it. I didn't ask for my ancestors to come here. Just like any other color people (Chinese, Japanese, Indian, etc.) if you were born here you are American.

    "Other Federal offices, such as the United States Census Bureau, adheres to the OMB standards on race in its data collection and tabulations efforts.[104] In preparation for the United States 2010 Census, a marketing and outreach plan, called 2010 Census Integrated Communications Campaign Plan (ICC) recognized and defined African Americans as black people born in the United States."

    So I went and read a little further..The way it reads..If you were born in Africa and came to the states..You are not an American American.

    And all African Americans have White or Native American in their blood...

    "With the help of geneticists, the historian Henry Louis Gates, Jr. put African-American ancestry in these terms:

    58 percent of African Americans have at least 12.5 percent European ancestry (equivalent of one great-grandparent);

    19.6 percent of African Americans have at least 25 percent European ancestry (equivalent of one grandparent);

    1 percent of African Americans have at least 50 percent European ancestry (equivalent of one parent); and

    5 percent of African Americans have at least 12.5 percent Native American ancestry (equivalent to one great-grandparent).[110]"

  5. I remember reading on this board..I believe it was cheffy who said it..Africian American is a term for Blacks that were born here in the US that had Family members who were slaves in the past...Had nothing to do with a person being born in African and then becoming a US Citizen..First that I had heard put that way.

  6. I had Pre-Diabetes for years..Last ck it numbers were normal...What I credit for this..EXERCISE after dinner...I never changed my way of eating and I even drink 1-2 Pepsi a day..KEY is exercise and not being overweight!

  7. Can someone tell me what happend..I didn't watch it much this season..I saw a little of last weeks show so I saw her getting married and she has a tumor. That is all I know.

  8. It rocks! :yahoo:

    Just got done booking our Memorial Day weekend plans! Which includes a stay at the Central Park Ritz...FOR FREE! Thank you rewards points!

    I'd rather have him home, but the free personal travel is a nice compensation.

    I ya...I miss DH dearly..But when we are together we do go on some nice trips..And the only reason we can afford them is because of his job...Perks...

  9. You still have to have a HS diploma or GED. ^_^ Although, I took the ASVAB. :unsure:

    This is what I found on those:

    AFQT Required minimum scores as of January 2009 are as follows:

    * [1] Air Force/[2] Air National Guard 36 (GED Graduate is 65)

    * [3] Coast Guard 40

    * [4] Navy 35

    * [5] Marines 31

    * [6] Army 34

    * [7] Army National Guard 50

    * GED holders who earn 15 college credits 100 level or greater are considered equivalent with those holding high school diplomas. This would result in only needing the minimum score to enlist.

    I asked DH a while ago if women still had to score higher and he said no...

  10. I noticed that, too - had to wonder if the guy had struggled academically and went into the military because he couldn't think of anything else to do. And before anyone decides to take that as an insult to members of the armed forces, it is NOT intended as such. But there *are* many folks who go into the military because they can't figure out what to do with themselves.

    When I went in..Women had to score higher on the ASVAP than men..And for men if you didn't graduate..HS you had to score higher than a 50 on the test..Now with this guy only being an E-5...I wonder how long he has been in...Now when you go in you have to have a GED or a HS diploma. Or did the Army get lax on that..I know they keep lowering standards.

    Just THINKING outloud LOL

  11. There are lots of good reasons to do a lease purchase. Credit issues. Don't have a large down payment. Not real sure you want to stay in the house.

    Maybe I missed something...but if I were in the service, I wouldn't be buying a house unless I was absolutely sure my tour of duty wasn't going to change.

    Home ownership isn't the definitive answer to every living situation. Renting can be a good thing...or in this case, base housing.

    Well see that is the thing..Last set of orders before Retiring..Good place to retire..Lots of GOVT jobs..And I know what you mean about buying..I was scared to buy and then have to sell yet another house in 3 years..Why the Lease looked nice because if we did decide to stay..Then money wasn't lost on rent...I hope all of this made sense...

    Um.. Houses around military installations are a very good investment. You normally have an ample supply of renters. :) We buy houses near most posts..

    I would not spend his time in the military with not buying a house.. that would be a good 20 years wasted.

    No kidding..I've been a home owner for almost 12 years...Most of the other time was overseas..If I rent up North I won't feel to bad because at least I still own my home here in GA.

  12. The only way they're being greedy is if their *mortgage* is $300 and they're making a *profit* of $1400/month. Considering the cost of the house and the area, I doubt very seriously that this is the case.

    I don't think you're going to find many people on here who will agree with your definition of greed. Time to close the thread and move on. ;)

    Guess not...Gee in my case I would be happy breaking even...ME is thinking they don't even want to sell..They just want to rent. Because who would agree to those terms..I'm not..

  13. How do you think they pay THEIR mortgage?

    If 10% is the lowest end of 10-100%, then how can 10% be greedy?

    Think about it..Why am I going to pay these people 1700 a month and then buy their house when they are only going to take off 300 a month off the final purchase price..Why is this so hard to understand...They are greedy..They pay their mortgage either way. This is at the end of it...1400 a month goes into their pockets...I'm not doing it.

  14. Good news used to be that a lease-purchase was considered a re-finance by some mortgage companies. That may have changed. Check with your bank or mortgage broker.

    Yes, if you opt out, there may be some money that you won't see again. As sure as home ownership has been over the years, there are risks to consider.

    As for greed, the market ultimately determines. The level of motivation is key in a real estate transaction.

    Thanks everyone..I learned enough..either I do Base Housing or BUY..I'm not dealing with a Lease Purchase...

  15. My point, most of the guys I know who actually served in Nam - actually served - are now in their 60's, just like most of the men who served in WWII are now in their late 80's or dead. We can split hairs and quote technicalities - the fact is, the ones who actually have real stories from either war are going to be a lot older than my age re

    Nam, and they'll be really old if they're talking about WWII, if indeed they're still alive.

    Why the hell am I taking this so personally? I've got a pork roast to finish up!

    Sorry, it just hit a nerve today, a mathmatical one at that! When was the last time your mathmatical nerve was hit? Go ahead, you can tell.

    The other day when that SGT killed 5 other soldiers..They said he graduated HS in 85..But wait he is 2 years older than me :wacko: 44 and graduated in 85.. :huh:

  16. Only a small portion, where did you get the idea of "all" of the money going towards the purchase? Just curious???

    I just read on a website it is 10-100%..I had a real estate agent tell me that..When I was thinking of Lease/Purchasing my house out.

    10% = Greedy...

  17. I graduated in '76, and I guess if I was in ROTC at the time I could consider myself a "vet". That's just not what I would consider a seasoned "vet". I guess that's my problem here. OK - sorry.

    I understand what you are saying..But didn't most of the V Vets only go over there for a year? It's not like the current wars where these guys are forced to go back and do 3-4 tours..Back then you had to volunteer for a 2nd go round.

    MY point..This guy could have been over there a year right?
