  1. The only thing that really bugged me is his statement "I'm a state representative in the Georgia General Assembly...that's the House of Representatives..."

Georgia General Assembly is the title given to both the state senate and house of representatives.

    That's all I have...lol

  2. Yep. What he's done was to call the Democrat's bluff.

Now maybe people will see the real truth.

There are lawmakers on both end of the aisle, including the senate majority leader, who ARE STEADFAST AGAINST THE POLICY OF SEPARATING FAMILIES. What trucking bluff are you talking about?

For someone who claims to abhor partisan politics, you sure do generalize in the name of political parties a lot.

  3. There are real world consequences to allowing illegal immigration.

I don't see anyone denying that; I'm certainly not. I made a statement about the current policy of children being separated from parents. You responded with illegal immigrants who commit murder. For me, in the general context of what is being discussed, that is a red herring.

The current situation we have been discussing isn't about illegal immigration. It is about children who are being separated from their parents who are seeking asylum.

  4. Actually, most of the reaction is not from what is actually happening, it's from the statement Sessions made. Democrats seized on it and have made it the latest attack on Trump. From what I read, the separation thing is not nearly as bad as it's been made out to be.

My biggest question is why the people who are outraged at the thought of ripping a child away from it's parent are not at least equally outraged by the forbidden topic here?

Answer - It's political. This whole mess is political.

I agree, the whole thing boils down to political bullcheeze. However, for me personally, Im reacting from a simple humanitarian place; Im a father who is raising three children alone, and the sight and sound of any child crying out in desperation for a parent, kicks me deep in the gut.

  5. I didn't say they were taken from their parents. My point was that they were put into cages.

Mea culpa if I overreacted. Im just exhausted with the narrative of it happened under Obama too. You cant compare the two without the factual context.

Personally, Ive never denied children were detained and/or housed in cages in past administrations. However, how they end up there and the outcome was much different than what has been happening since Sessions carte blanche zero tolerance stance.

For instance, in 2014, children were processed and moved to the least restrictive environment. Ultimately, more than 80% were reunited with parents who already resided within the Unite States.

Ultimately, I think what is most germane and prudent to the arguments being made is the current situation is a direct result of the zero tolerance policy taken by the current administration. In 2014, as is otherwise recognized by most, the housing of juveniles was the unexpected spike in young people seeking asylum.

  6.

You don't read a gottdamn thing you post, do you? From the very article you posted:

That difference is significant — while unaccompanied children in 2014 knew what to expect when they arrived at the border and were taken to the holding facilities, the children who have been separated from their parents are often much younger, and had not expected to be taken away from their families.

On Monday, ProPublica published audio from inside a border detention facility that recorded children as young as six wailing for their parents. They could be heard screaming "Mami" and "Papá" repeatedly, and asking Border Patrol agents where their parents were.

  7. Saw this on WSBTV this morning as well.

Hope no one inside the house was injured or in the truck.

Hope it is fixed quickly - what a mess!

Apparently, the homeowner's insurance company has deemed the house unsafe to live in and put him in a motel. From what I read, engineers are currently trying to figure out how to remove the truck without collapsing the house.

Hopefully, the homeowner has retained a skilled lawyer.

  8. I have a scenario that I have witnessed firsthand play out, and coincidentally, it involves a 'housekeeping' position. For the sake of anonymity, this person will simply be referred to as J. Doe.

    J. Doe was hired, as a temp, to provide day-day housekeeping for a corporate office. Previously, J. Doe worked for a guy (we will call J. Doe II) who owned a small company who provided services time-to-time for this corporate office. Time passed and he appeared to be a good fit for the job, however, when he was processed to be hired as a full-time employee, he didn't qualify. Apparently, he had an extensive felonious background and had served prison sentences. Several weeks go by. Suddenly, this person is back working day to day in the housekeeping position.

How? The work was contracted to J. Doe II's 'company' and he assigned J. Doe to the job. This individual has been there ever since.

    Let that sink in.

  9. I pass that area all the time, and I have never noticed. I am not a neighbor and I don't live within spitting distance. Therefore, I could really give a rats ass (no pun intended) what goes on there and I am surely not going to waste my time filing a complaint.

Speaking of rats, Animal Control was full of them for years and nobody seemed to really give a cheeze. Why would a random house on East Paulding Drive bother anyone.

    Just my 2cents.

  10. The 45mb service I have, essentially a DS3, is an electrical signal and can only be carried over copper. I refuse to believe they've dropped a DS3 at my home....while I may have dedicated lines to my home, I am sharing whatever bandwidth available at the DSLAM with other customers. It's the most efficient way for them to do it being you'd rarely have a group of customers all maxing out their bandwidth at once....I just feel that they're not allotting enough bandwidth for our particular neighborhood to share and then cover their own asses by saying, "well, we can't do anything until you're getting less than half of what you're paying for."

    mrnn

You are 100% correct. I was referring to the DS3/DS1's being at the DSLAM where, as you stated, it is all aggregated (at least on the old ATM stuff). They are selling last mile speeds to the SLIC/DSLAM/VRAD--as you pointed out.

ATT has the added luxury of blaming distance to the CO, attenuation, line degradation, etc..etc. They can cloud the waters for days without having to address if they are actually shaping or rate policing customers.

I will add their latency sucks as well. I used get p out within ATT's network is never less than 30ms (in GA).

  11. Their speeds are nonsense. I mean I like UVerse, considering my options, but they are full of cheeze. I used to have the ~24mb package, I rarely was north of 15mb. I upgraded to the 45mb package and I think I've seen my speed hit 30mb once. But it's not a dedicated line so they won't allow you to complain until you're at less than half the speed you purchase.

    mrnn

It is a dedicated line, however, what they don't tell you until you complain, is that they are pushing ALL IP traffic (voice, tv, in addition to data) on the Uverse lines. Uverse is two DSL lines that are bonded (the bandwidth is shared between the two). These DSL's are terminated to an NID somewhere on the premises of the home/business.

Bascially, the more televisions you have pumping HD, the slower your internet connection will be.

The main difference between the two is the 'backend.' The little phone boxes you see scattered every mile or so contain a DSLAM. This is where the copper wiring from your home eventually makes it back to. The stretch between that box and your house is called 'the last mile' in telecom lingo.

The traditional DSL last mile terminates to a regular ADSL DSLAM. There is networking device inside that has DS1 and DS3 circuits carrying the traffic over the ATM (not the money dispenser :-) ) protocol. I am sure some of those that have been customers for many years remember having to actually connect via a PPPoE connection using a username and password just like dial up.

The uverse last mile terminates to a newer DSLAM that is video enabled called a VRAD. It is based on ADSL2+ and is a wholely IP switched and routed protocol. The backbone is gigabit ethernet on fiber as opposed to the slower copper circuits. Hence, this is why ATT is pushing for all existing customers to move to 'uverse.' Their corporate goal is to push all customers off of PSTN and legacy DSL. They want their entire product base to be on a single IP packet based network.

It makes complete sense from a technical standpoint, however, you lose a lot of the reliability of analog phone service and of course degraded speeds. There is only so much that can be pushed through RJ11 copper.

  12. so our u-verse went out about an hour ago. local stations are affected more that premium channels . the picture and sound are broken up .i was told the restore time would be late tonight or tomorrow . supposedly engineers are working on it .

    They are full of sheeze.

If it requires a Uverse tech to visit the VRAD near your home, you can forget it happening tonight. If it is an internal network problem then it should be fixed within an hour or two--or much less depending on the skill of the engineers.

The people fronting incoming calls are Tier 1 CSM's. The next time you call back ask to speak to a Tier III--this should at least get you someone with rudimentary networking/telecom skills. The last time I spoke to a Tier I--I was lied to. I knew I was being lied to. So, I drove to the VRAD and DSLAM that services my neighborhood. I called uverse tech support back and asked what the status was. The CSM put me on hold to 'call the technician.' She came back and told me they were onsite and resolving the issue. The problem, however, is that I was parked in front of the VRAD. I had taken a picture before I called. I asked the CSM what her email address was so I could send her the pic. She hung up.

I finally got the most senior person on shift. I explained the situation and the fact I had pictures. The next business day they called me exactly when they said they would. The guy that called was apparently one of the senior account retention reps. He literally put me on hold, called the technician, and stayed on the phone with me until the dude pulled up in my driveway so he could get verbal verification from me that he was in fact present.

    Good luck.

  13. You do realize that you can't shoot a 'lurker' just because they're in your yard? If you're a responsible gun owner, you should know that.

You do realize I didn't mention anything about shooting anyone? Hell, I didn't even say I would point it at anyone. I said 'greet.' To me, the implication should simply be that if you are in the vicinity of my house, in the wee hours, I have the forethought to arm myself (and will) while I ascertain who you are and/or why you are 'lurking.' Please keep in mind that I live on 3 heavily wooded acres, therefore, if someone is in my yard and/or knocking on my door in the middle of the night they aren't looking to borrow sugar.

I have owned guns for 28 years of my life. As for being a 'responsible gun owner' I suppose that term is as subjective as any other when it comes to guns. I feel I am as responsible as I can possibly be, your conclusions my differ--and I am ok with that. Furthermore, I am well aware of the OCGA and how the laws of our state view self-defense and the use of firearms--especially 'stand your ground' and the 'castle doctrine.'
