  1. A friend forwarded this to me. I thought that some of you might know folks that would be interested.

  2. I would hope that they don't open an Olive Garden in Paulding to replace Carinos. One is just as crappy as the other.

Get out and support your locally owned and operated restaurants. We have some nice little local places that need our business.

The last thing that Paulding needs is another mediocre franchise restaurant.

  3. When my Dad gave me his old gun cabinet, I decided to clean out my safe and all of my cases. Crap! I didn't realize that I had this many toys. I have a nice collection under lock and key. It is tiny compared to Anonymoose's stash, though.

  4. Usually something like this would go in the Political Forum, but this is informational and not partisan.

Amendment 1 to the Georgia Constitution on the ballot is something that will help to preserve existing green space by making it more affordable for landowners who do not want to develop their land. It allows for a lower tax rate if a landowner enters a commitment with the state to leave the land untouched for at least a certain amount of time (I believe 15 years).

This has been a chief complaint of mine about how we treat landowners in this State. When a building boom hits a county like Paulding, land is taxed based on it's potential value, not on it's actual use (unless agricultural or farming). So, landowners taxes on their green space go through the roof. Pretty soon, the only option becomes selling the land to a developer, to get out from under the huge tax bill. If someone wants to keep their land untouched and forested, they should not be penalized for it. It should be encouraged, not punishable.

Here is the description of the Amendment, from Karen Handel's web site.

    Amendment 1

To encourage the preservation of Georgia's forests through a conservation use property tax reduction program.

    House Resolution No. 1276

    Resolution Act No. 702

    Ga. L. 2008, p. 1209

“Shall the Constitution of Georgia be amended so as to provide that the General Assembly by general law shall encourage the preservation, conservation, and protection of the state's forests through the special assessment and taxation of certain forest lands and assistance grants to local government?"

    ( ) YES ( ) NO

This proposal directs the General Assembly to provide for a new method of ad valorem tax assessment of forest land conservation use property. Such property will include only tracts of forest land which exceed 200 acres except where the General Assembly has provided by general law for exceptions to the 200 acre limit under certain circumstances. Subject to certain qualifications, an owner of such property will be able to enter into a covenant to restrict the use of the land to current use; and the land will then be taxed according to a formula based on current use, annual productivity, and real property sales data. A breach of the covenant will result in a government recapturing the tax savings and may result in other appropriate penalties.

The General Assembly is directed to appropriate funds to local government to partially offset any loss of local revenue.

The General Assembly has enacted a law to implement this constitutional amendment. This law will become effective only if the constitutional amendment is ratified by the voters. This law is 2008 HB 1211; Act No. 464, found at Ga. Laws 2008, p. 297.

A copy of this entire proposed constitutional amendment is on file in the office of the judge of the probate court and is available for public inspection.

  5. Well as I have heard so many times before opinions are like A$$holes everyone has one. He lived out his dream crazy or not like people who jump out of planes or have themselves locked in a box submerged under water and timed to get out. Everyone in this world is unique-if not we would be robots. It was his life and now he is in a better place than we are.I say good for him. I wish I could do something big to teach people and be remembered.

What did he teach? The only thing that I learned was that if you get eaten by a bear, they have to follow bears around and find your DNA in bear scat to figure out which one did it.

  6. I picked up some take out from Imperial the other night. I thought that it was very good. I also like the dinner combos for $6.50. It was just enough that I was full and didn't have any left over.

  7. Apparently Georgia can't handle the SEC, either. Losing in the last couple of years to the powerhouses of the conference. You know, Kentucky, Vanderbilt, and South Carolina.

I admitted that the Big 10 has been weak the last few years. We have also played Texas and Washington as our out of conference games the last couple of years.

I am comfortable with UGA fans hating on Ohio State. Jealousy is one of the sincerest forms of flattery.

The fact of the matter is that you don't get a chance at being the best team in the nation until you are at least the best team in your conference. Georgia has consistently failed to do that. If you asked UGA fans if they wanted to go to the National Championship 3 out of 6 years, but they would only win one of them, do you think that they would turn it down? I doubt it. I wish that we would have won the other two championship games, but we were not the better team. I will still take those seasons over my team sitting at home on the big day.

The SEC has produced the National Champions for the last couple of years. As usual, Georgia was not that team. Should have, could have, would have. They always choke on at least one cupcake. Poor Bullpuppies. You can always cheer for the SEC team that did get the job done, to make you feel better.

ETA - I incorrectly stated that we played Texas during our BCS Champion year. We played Texas Tech, Washington St., and San Jose St. as our out of conference games that year.

  9. I'm still shocked Ohio agreed to play USC in the first place.

If you are shocked, you don't pay much attention to college football. OSU always schedules at least one team from a major conference as an early season game. They also have an agreement to always schedule at least one in-state team to an early season game.

In 2002 they beat Texas early in the season on their way to becoming National Champions. They had played Texas during the previous season, too, but Texas was the team to win it all that year.

People always complain that the Big 10 is weak. The last few years, that has been true, so a good game outside of conference is helpful. I truly believe that the way the BCS is going, you will have to start scheduling tougher out of conference games if you want to work your way to the top. It certainly doesn't look like a playoff system is going to happen anywhere in the near future.

  10. I am going to say yes, because it involved an attack specifically on civilians, culture, and economy of the US.

It is tough to say that it is worse than Pearl Harbor, but that was for the most part, an attack on a military base.

    Tough call. Good question, though.
