  1. Because April 15 is a Sunday and April 16 Emancipation Day in the District of Columbia, you have until April 17 to file your tax return this year. That means it is 31 days until the returns must be filed. You can file an extension but that only extends the time for filing the return. If you owe tax, you still must pay that by April 17 or face underpayment penalties. If you need help filing an extension, just send us an e-mail and we will point you in the right direction.
  2. In addition to bookkeeping services, we also can get you organized for tax season. Whether you need business information organized or personal information organized, we can help! We do not file tax returns but can refer you to several different tax preparers in the West Georgia area. If you wish, we can even work with your tax preparer so you can focus on your business or just on your life. Give us a call or e-mail us. There should be a link on our profile for contacting us by e-mail.
  3. Just a reminder: if you own a small business, anything purchased before December 31 can be deducted this year even if you paid for it by credit card and don't pay the bill until after January 1. So, if you are looking at a profit on the year, make the office supply store your friend next week. Or if you're a commerce member on Pcom and your membership is coming up for renewal in January (or even February), go ahead and pay that and deduct it in 2011! Happy Holidays.
  4. To be deductible, a business expense must be both ordinary and necessary. An ordinary expense is one that is common and accepted in your field of business. A necessary expense is one that is helpful and appropriate for your business. An expense does not have to be indispensable to be considered necessary. In addition, you must be able to substantiate your expense. If possible, move expenses ahead to this year and pay bills that will be due. If possible, move income into NEXT year. Both of these techniques are not always possible but when possible, do them. Replenish your office supplies N
  5. As you can see, I'm pretty new here myself. Always like to see small businesses succeed!

  10. I received an e-mail the other day that was clearly cut and paste and HORRIBLE. Even if I had been looking for someone, which I'm not, I don't think I would have considered this person. I'm almost hesitant to even say that here because I think a Pcommer might have told them I was hiring when I'm not. I am seeking new CLIENTS, not employees.
  11. I couldn't agree more. We small businesses are what keeps America going.
  12. I miss my former boss. Think I'll send him an e-mail to let him know I'm thinking about him and let him know how much I appreciate all he did for me, both personally and professionally. And while I don't have a boss now, I want to tell my clients how much I appreciate them. I hope one, or three, in particular is reading this. To the others, thank you for your confidence in me and my ability. It means a lot to me.
  13. Your husband is very fortunate. OT is not required to be paid until it is over 40 hours a week worked. There is no provision in Georgia law about the number of hours per day. Some states do have provisions such as this. My last employer was wonderful about overtime. I got paid double for Saturdays even though I rarely ever worked 40 hours in a week including Saturday.
  14. This is a common misconception. Overtime is only paid for time you actually WORK over and above 40 hours per week. I get this question quite often. In fact, had a friend who asked me that about a year ago because he thought he had been shorted on overtime. Turned out that he had worked something like 39 hours and 45 minutes AND had two days holiday pay to boot. He is on call over holidays. Needless to say, he was quite disappointed. By and large, HR departments know what they are doing. If payroll is outsourced to Paychex, ADP or some other payroll firm, the changes of them get

  16. As a business owner for over 25 years, I have had to hire employees. I see a lot of postings on Pcom and FB where people are looking for jobs. There is such competition today for the few jobs out there, that you need to look as professional as possible, ESPECIALLY if you're seeking a job in a professional environment, such as a receptionist, administrative assistant, etc. I have a few tips if you're among those who post on forums such as these. 1—use full words. It's BECAUSE, not "cuz", AND not "n" and BE not "b". 2—the word "like" should be used in reference to something you

  18. That's great!! I have gotten all of my clients, so far at least, either directly or indirectly through Pcom. That's one reason why I wanted a commerce member so badly. It has already paid off, too.
  19. Do you own a small business? Would you like to increase your revenue, add more customers? You should become a commerce member onPcom. Becoming a commerce member means you can post about yourproduct or services. You can easily increase your customer basefor a small amount of cash outlay. If you’re already a member, definitely continue themembership. The benefits to you and yourbottom line could be amazing! I'm proud to be a commerce member. It has already paid off for me, too!
  20. Thank you. We have been told for several years that it would fulfill a need, so we decided to go for it. It's very rewarding to help someone get a handle on their office and tame the paperwork, get the financials in order and give them piece of mind. And we LOVE our clients.
  21. That's the plan! Hope to be around for a long, long time.
