  1. My original email I sent to the Story Ideas on the Fox5 website bounced back, so I called the newsroom for an alt email address. They gave me one and I re-sent my email. I just got a notification that it was read. Keep your fingers crossed. :good:

  2. I think the idea to send this to the news stations would be AWESOME! You are right GACat. Paulding County never gets any notice unless something tragic happens. This is a wonderful and heartwarming Christmas story.

Well, it would have to wait until it's for sure the poor dog is healthy enough to be adoptable. And socialized enough, which I'm sure until he was dumped, was probably a friendly dog, since he responded to people. He may need some Love & Trust Training. But yeah, I would love to see some good publicity for once for Paulding County, and most especially for the Shelter & Humane Society. There is so much fear about shelters....so much of it justified in too many places....but the Paulding Shelter/Humane Society does such good work. Paulding County is a good place to live. There are a lot of good people here.

  3. You know, I just thought of something.....and granted maybe this thread should get moved over to the 4 Legged Frenzy section but.....assuming this dog is adoptable.....what a story to highlight the caring people of Paulding County, and our great Humane Society here and our shelter? I was thinking.....what if this dog's story became a news item, like on Channel 2 or Channel 5? A Christmas story to highlight the need to adopt a shelter animal, especially an older animal, not just a puppy or kitten...and to not just dump an unwanted animal but surrender it to a place where there are caring workers and volunteers? Shelters get such bad raps, and the Paulding Shelter is such a good one. Really, Paulding County gets very little publicity compared to the rest of the metro, unless something awful happens. I'm kind of tempted to email Fox5 news, if it turns out this Christmas dog....left at a church with a bag of food and a note....a heartbreaker could turn out to be a heartwarmer for him or some other animal......

    I dunno. I was just thinking...... :(

  4. Hopefully anybody that even considers dropping off a dog will see this.

This guy was very lucky that so many cared enough to make an effort to get him safe.

Most are not this lucky, they are hit or starve.

Many on here are very indignant about this, and that is understandable.

We here much venting about all the animals being taken to the shelter, it is heartbreaking as are the families being displaced by the economy and having to leave them some think they will spay or neuter, then they don't have the.

Or in a weak moment take on a pet and are not prepared for the responsibilty.

    For anybody reading this thread...

When you take an animal to the shelter the workers there will act in a professional manner, there will be no recriminations, rudeness, or dirty looks!!!

The workers there are sad, but they understand that what you are doing is better than dumping an animal.

Do the right thing, nobody is going to be anything but polite, and professional when you do.

I have turned in many strays up there, I feel bad because I know how heartbreaking their jobs are, they do it because it is the right thing, I do it because it is right.

I have as many animals as I can take good care, and know it is not my place to take everyone in.

It is always better to take an animal in then to le it suffer on it's own.

I went to visit the Paulding County Shelter for the first time today, to look and love on some Kitties (I had to send my 17 year old Daisy to the Rainbow Bridge 3 weeks ago and am planning on adopting an adult cat from there) and I am VERY FAVORABLY IMPRESSED! If someone needs to surrender a pet or finds a stray they cannot take care of, the Paulding County Shelter is a warm, caring place for that animal.

  5. I mustered up some courage (and gathered a small box of canned food, blankies and rice) and went to visit the PC shelter this afternoon. I met CreativeOne, who needs to change her name to FANTASTICCHICK!! I visited with and cuddled and petted some of the cats.....met Indie (a gorgeous cat!) and MJ, The Fabulous Back-Balancing Henry, Tinkerbell, Shrimp....Callie....what a trip she is, she's a Lickin' Machine  One in particular caught my eye, a female named Oreo we think, who reminds me a lot of my Daisy. The cats all looked so good, just beautiful soft coats, healthy, you can tell they are very well taken care of!! A lot of great dogs too. I LOVE dogs, but my lifestyle and work hours are just must better for a cat to live with than a dog. Wish I had a huge farm and could take them all! I loved the outside "bonding area" and the gazebo! I am so impressed with the PC Shelter!! I just wanted to thank CreativeOne and everyone who was there today, everybody was so nice and the atmosphere was happy, not sad! :) :) :)

  6. I agree with you 100%. I believe the people who abandoned him did it out of love or they would not have left a note and food. They just went about it the wrong way. I hope they will do the right thing and come downtown and help him be caught and placed somewhere he can be safe and WARM. Poor Baby!!

This just the saddest story. Now I totally agree, this poor dog would have been much better off at the PC Shelter but I wonder if the motivation of leaving him at a church....a House of God....as opposed to the side of the road may show some caring, albeit not the way we understand it. Maybe whoever did this thought The Lord would look over this poor dog. This kind of indicates to me that there is a element of ignorance of the benefit of leaving him at the PC Shelter. Or fear. Remember, many people think that placement of an animal that someone either abandons or sadly can no longer care for, means death row. I'm learning, recently really, that this is not always the case, that the shelter, or specifically the PC shelter, is a much better place to be, even if it is for the last time period of an animal's life, than out on the streets. Even if the worst case scenario must happen....you all know what I mean.....I cry when I type it even....the animals are fed, kept warm and dry and attended to as much as possible. As awful as I think what this former owner did, I question if it was more an act of desperation, a creation of ignorance of the positives of the shelter and fear that placement in a shelter always means the animal is doomed to die. :(

  7. Daisy liked to sleep under the blankets with me. I don't know how she ever breathed under there. She was a Pillow Stealer too. If I rolled over to the edge of the pillow in my sleep, when I'd roll back over I'd get a face full of Cat. One night, she was sleeping facing me, right in front of my face. I have sinus problems (doesn't help when a Cat is laying right under your nose....literally....so I tend to sleep with my mouth open without knowing it. Any guesses why I'm still single?) Daisy decided to stretch forward, and popped one of her hind feet right into my mouth, waking me from a dead sleep. 3 in the morning. I just pulled it out and we both just went right back snoozing.

  8. A leaf down in the cheese....WTF??? How does a leave get in there? It was a tombstone pizza. I tried calling them and they are closed will be calling back tomorrow though.

Thanks for ruining my hard cooked dinner.

Are you sure the box didn't say Pot Pie? :p

Gawd, I hope I'm not the only one who gets that joke. I hate it when I'm Too Hip for The Room.

  9. Thank you, everybody. I'm going to wait a bit....it's only been 2 weeks since I lost Daisy, and with the holidays, I have to be gone to Hiawassee for probably 4 days with family for Christmas. I don't want to take somebody home, only to leave her for a few days when we've just begun a new relationship. Right now I'm knee-deep in Christmas shopping and errands, and really still too emotional to accept a new Cat. Christmas is always miserable since Mama died in 2006, so....at the risk of sounding like a Scrooge, I'm usually relieved when the holidays are over. I'll have a couple of days off come New Year's, and will try to come by the shelter. I started saving newspapers (I'm cheap and lazy, read it online except for Sundays LOL) and will keep an eye on supplies you all need. I've thought about volunteering, but I'm one of those awful criers who would be more of a nuisance than a help, I'm afraid. I admire anyone who can work at shelters and not become an emotional wreck. No joke, I can cry all night just watching something on Animal Planet. But I definitely will do my best to come by New Year's weekend and try to bring a few cans of food and all. Is there a brand preference for food? Kibble or cans?

I'm going to ask what is probably a controversial, loaded question, but is there a reason you all are not at PetSmart? I see JPR over there, and the Atlanta Humane Society, and occasional a breed rescue like Persians. Just curious.

  10. I'm new here, just signed up to this forum a few days ago, specifically because of the Four Legged Frenzy section. On November 21st, I had to put my Soul Mate, Daisy, to sleep after complications of Chronic Renal Failure. I was her third Purrson....she was a gift from a friend in North GA who couldn't keep a 7+ year old cat when she was moving. My friend was afraid she was unadoptable because of her age, and I accepted her over the phone, sight unseen. I had Daisy 11 years. She was my Baby and I miss her so much. I still cry, I still keep her toys and blankies around the house, so it doesn't look as empty as it feels. I have never gotten a cat from a shelter (my cat before Daisy, "Ambush" was a gift from an uncle, and she lived 13 years.) Daisy was my Soul Mate, my baby....my companion and best friend. My best comfort when my mother battled cancer for 2 years, and when Mama died. I feel pretty lost but know I did the best I could for Daisy. We were very happy with each other all those years. And I would like to say, Drs. Larry & Warren Judy and their staff are just the kindest people....even called me the morning after Daisy died to check on me.

When Daisy died, my stepdad told me, don't say you'll never get another cat, there may be one at the shelter who needs you as much as you need her. So to fill in some empty nights, I've been researching on the net (which is how I ran across this website) and asking friends, and I must say, The Paulding County Shelter & Humane Society have great reputations! And I can tell by the posts here by you all that when my heart heals enough in a few months, I will be keeping an eye on the pics posted here, looking for another Cat to share my life, hopefully as long as I had with Daisy & Ambush. I've got some qualities I'm looking for (adult female, healthy, affectionate.....likes NASCAR. Preferably a Earnhardt or Stewart fan. Or Harvick. Burton. Biffle. I can live with a Gordon fan. As long as she doesn't gloat if he wins.)

Anyway, after all that Babbling....God I didn't realize how much I talked to Daisy until she was gone...I just wanted to thank all of you for your posts, they are really helping me, and encouraging me to get another cat when my heart heals enough to love another. You folks are great. :)
