  1. I went to school with Mindy. I am so sorry to hear of her husband passing. He was so young....my prayers are with Mindy, her children and family.

Many years ago I used to work with Mindy. I remember how much in love she was with Chuck, and how excited she was about her wedding, and then her first baby. I am stunned, bless her heart. So young. I knew his sister too from work. Very nice family. My prayers are with all of them. :(

  2. I bake a yellow cake (9x13 pan), cut into squares while it's still hot and use this Chocolate Icing:

    1 stick butter (margarine)

    2 Cups sugar

    1 tsp. vanilla

    1/2 cup milk

    1/4 cup cocoa

Melt butter in heavy saucepan, add milk, sugar and cocoa. Whisk together and bring to a boil for 2 minutes. Remove from heat, add vanilla. Pour over cake while hot. Let this cool and it's awesome!!

That sounds about right, from what I remember. Once Mama & I were making it, got to running our mouths talking, turned around and almost had ourselves a chocolate volcano on the stove. You gotta be watching this stuff closely  THE BEST chocolate icing in the world, I'd rather have it than anything. Too dang hot to lick the spoon though

  3. Okay, now that y'all got that Cornbread thing figured out, how about another old Southern recipe?

My late mother & grandmothers used to make the best chocolate icing...the kind that you almost poured on the cake, and it would harden almost like a thin layer of fudge candy. I used to break it off in chunks and eat it, then eat the cake (yellow, of course.) I don't have a written recipe anymore, but I remember it was cocoa powder, milk, sugar boiled in a large heavy saucepan. Sheer heaven and I can't find a recipe for it anywhere.

  4. Today is like Christmas Day for Race Fans....Formula One's Grand Prix of Monaco was exciting (it's often like watching a Chess Match played with race cars...a totally different experience than watching NASCAR) but the last few laps of The Indy 500 were just incredible! Some good friends of mine went and said it was unbelievable. :yahoo: It was almost like watching Trevor Bayne or David Regan win their first Cup race...I like Dan Weldon but poor Jr Hildebrand, I felt so bad for him. Right now I'm watching the NASCAR Coca Cola 600, but I don't think anything can top Indy today. Unless Dale Jr wins :)

  5. As funny as I find it that the info about school being closed was posted here and was on facebook before the county website was updated how many people were really sitting at their computers clicking refresh on PCSD website? Yeah, I had a window open to it but I had another on here, one on facebook and the tv on. Whether intentional or not the fastest way to get the word out is places like FB and P.com and to get the word out to the media.

pcom is my main and best source when there's dangerous weather and all. This place probably saved my life during the flood, I was all set to try it that morning and postings here from residents kept me home, safe.

  6. I've always paid (lots) of attention to National & State Politics, but only recently have given much thought to local politics (being a homeowner will cure Political Laziness fast. ) I also do not have children, so issues like school boards, etc., have never caught my strong attention. I basically tend to vote only on issues/politicians I have a personal stake in. I don't believe in voting on issues or candidates I am uniformed on just for the sake of voting. I'm registered in one party, but will consider & have on occasion voted outside of my usual party. So I have a few Dumb Questions, if you all don't mind answering for me.

I live in Post 1 apparently, so all of this Posts 2 & 4 doesn't really directly relate to me. I do realize who gets elected in those Posts does affect me, just doesn't directly "represent" me due to my residence location. What I was wondering, are the 4 "Posts" elections not all held the same year? I've seen nothing about Posts 1 & 3. Or I've just totally missed it. Why is that? A way to prevent at total upheaval of the commission? Were the Posts just not all originally established at the same time? Why 4 Posts instead of 5? To prevent a majority rule (Dem vs Rep)? Locally, have the Commission members always been in the same political party, or is that just simply a reflection of the overall political makeup of Paulding?

Not trying to start any arguments here, just was wondering. I didn't grow up here but I've lived here a decade. And as I said, I just honestly (and I must admit wrongly) never paid much attention to local politics until now.

    Thanks everyone. :good:

  7. I keep watching Dale and keep getting disappointed. Why can't he seem to get to Victory Lane?

Anytime Jeff Gordon finishes ahead of Dale I get grouchy...

I feel your pain. I don't know what the problem is....it's not like he was never good, he used to be very good. Seems like after that crap with Yoko Earnhardt, it went downhill. And he sounds depressed in interviews all the time too the past few years. :nea:

On another note....I hope Jeffy gets out of his car Girl-Slaps Jimmie Johnson next time he cuts him off. Like that time he tried it with Matt Kenseth. But I hope Gordon will take off his helmet & HANS first. If you're gonna Girl-Slap somebody, Jeffy...at least look Manly.

  8. Okay, I adopted 2 adult Cats, Addie (MJ) and Olivia (Oreo) from The PC Shelter just before Christmas. We Happy Campers. :)

Anyway, like Cats will do, as soon as it's Bed Time, Addie & Olivia get very active.....Hunting with their Toys...The Noisy Ones...running around...climbing up the window blinds....this is almost nightly. I'm already an Sleepwalking Insomniac anyway but...A couple of months ago, for security reasons, I started leaving a lamp on in my living room, which throws a good bit of light into my bedroom. Not enough to keep me awake, but much more light than a normal nightlight. I don't do it every night (I just forget) but I noticed that whenever I leave the living room light off...It's Cats Gone Wild until nearly midnight. If I leave the living room light on...they climb into bed with me and are Little Furry Angels.

So. My Question is.....does the PC Shelter leave "nightlights" of any sort in the rooms where the animals sleep? Are Addie & Olivia just "used" to this from their time at the PC Shelter, and know it's time to go to sleep when the light is left on? Or did I just accidentally find some kind of Miracle Cure that I should get Billy Mays to do a Cheesy Late Night Infomerical on and get rich?

And Yogurt....they're addicted to it. Now I know that's a PC Shelter Thang... Weirdest thing I've ever seen a Cat beg for.

Addie's the Big Tabby, Olivia the Little Black & White. :)

  9. WOW! Talk about Timing! This sounds like it's exactly what we need around here. This looks great, thanks to all of you who are involved. I just got home, so I am going to try to get signed up tonight if I can. :)

  10. PCSO is working on setting up an email broadcasting system for events like you are talking about.

Citizen's will be able to sign up with their email address to receive bulletins about events such as Amber alerts and other situations

and I think you'll be able to set it or it's set for a given area around your address.

It's not in place yet, that I'm aware of, but they are working on it.

Might want to PM Cpl Gurley, as he's the one spear-heading the operation.

He's been putting a lot of work in to getting this thing going and I'm sure he'll be happy to see people such

as yourself eager to use a tool like this...

I thought even traffic and inclement weather updates would be useful on Twitter. For instance, ice on surface streets. Paulding County pretty much doesn't exist on Atlanta radio reports, and I hate tying up the police phone lines asking if road conditions are precarious. The DOT has a website and phone, but once again...Paulding is practically non-existent. Local citizens who also Twitter could report such in their neighborhoods. There could be a number of practical uses for Twitter. An email broadcasting system would be great too for those who want to sign up. I don't know the costs of such a system, but Twitter to my knowledge is totally free. Would make a great backup to the email broadcasting system, if someone from local gov't or law enforcement wanted to maintain it.

I ran across this while searching for someone who works at this Florida Police Dept who happens to have contact with the surviving family of my Vietnam MIA Bracelet soldier (deceased.) That in itself is a whole 'nuther story but.....

I liked this idea of the police department having a Twitter to post updates of what's going on.

    http://twitter.com/HollyHillPolice

Does anyone think that this might be an idea for Paulding? I think Twitter can be used on a lot of Blackberries/cell phones that get internet access, so "followers" could check all manner of things, like traffic issues, etc. Holly Hill is not very big from what I understand, so it's do-able for them. I wonder if any other gov't offices do this, or even organizations like local animal shelters, schools, etc. I'd follow our shelter if they had one, or local law enforcement agencies.

    Just a thought.

  12. To the brave young man's family, I just got off the phone with one of my two best friends, who, along with her husband, are close friends of SPC King's father, whom I also know casually. I had actually met young Ryan a few years ago with his brother and dad. I am so sorry, I had no idea until tonight that I knew Ryan's family at all. I had forgotten his dad's last name and just did not make the connection. This is heartbreaking news. Please know that my prayers are with you all, and that a lot of people here in Paulding County care very much about Ryan, his widow, and his entire family.

May God Bless & Comfort you all.
