  1. I am an ex-smoker of 10 years. I try not to be one of those nagging people, but, here I go.

There are restaraunts I use to frequent either because of the good food or I knew the owner and supported his business.

BUT, I had to stop going to some of these places due to the smoke. I have developed asthma since I quit and I can not enjoy a meal in a restaraunt filled with smoke. I should have a right to eat and be able to breath in a smoke free establishment.

Now some places have wonderful ventilation systems that you can't even smell the smoke from the smoking section. This works for me.

But please don't put in at a table right next to the smoking section without good ventilation. Sonny's resteraunt does this.

Maybe restaraunts built in the future could truly have smoking sections, a wall and a door that separates the two areas, and please make the smokers have to walk past the non smoking section, not the non smokers.

  2. I totally agree too that uniforms are despartely needed in the school system for many reasons. I don't have to list them because every thinking parent knows them.

I have had people tell me that if they vote in the uniform code, then what about the people who don't have the money to buy the uniform.

Well, they buy their kids cloths for school don't they? Seems to me it would be cheaper to buy 2-3 uniforms instead a different outfit for every day.

They could also be donated, seniors leave theirs for the needy, etc. There are ways to deal with this issue.

  3.

AMEN to that. If everyone would keep right except to pass, maybe traffic would flow faster.

I used to get upset with the idiots that just live in the left lane, now I just laugh at them when I pass them while I am driving in the right lane. Seems like the rules have changed. My mother does the left lane thing, I asked her one day why she does this, and she said "I don't know, I just get in it and drive, no particular reason." Yes, I told her she was as bad as the rest of the idiots out there. And don't give me that bull about needing to turn left and not being able to get over.

I've even had people just suddenly (without a signal) get over in front of me in the left lane as I am just about to pass them. We are the only cars on the road. 10 miles later they turned left. Gosh, I hope they got over in time!!

Have you also noticed this, when meeting someone walking in a mall or any where, instead of them moving over to the their right, they move over to the left, directly into your path? Just like on the roads, they don't know common courtesy anywhere!!!

  4. ;)

The thing about deputies, police and GSP is they are as guilty as us regular citizens when it come to breaking the law.

There has been MANY times I have been driving down a local 4 lane road OR an interstate highway and be doing 65 mph. Yes, 10 miles over the speed limit.

I have had an officer of the law pass me and leave me sitting behind, so they had to be at least doing 75 or better.

AND NO they were not on a call, they would stop at all red lights, stop signs etc and then continue on at break neck speeds.

I almost got run over by an Atlanta cop one day on I-75, he had no lights on(sirens/blue lights) and had to be doing 80 or better (no exageration!). He was driving in and out of traffic only to exit off the highway to a secondary road.

I called it in to 911, asked them did they have an officer responding to a call in that vacinity and they said they did not and would investigate this report.

I have only had one speeding ticket and that was in Mississippi, I was doing Ga.'s normal 9 miles over the speed limit, they don't do that in Mississippi I discovered.

I see this not only in Paulding Co but a lot of other counties. I have begun calling in these offending officers with their car numbers.

 Next time one pulls me over for speeding, I will pull out my log book, see if their car number was on the list and politely tell them that when they start obeying the law, then I will, and politely drive off.

  5.

I agree people are lazy in todays world. The kids have the callouses on thier rears, not the people 40 or older.

The reason for this is that the kids today don't have to go out and plow the back 40 when they get home. It's all fun and games after school.

    X-box, Nintendo, whatever.

So what inspiration do they have to get off their lazy bu000's and do anything.

We are all victims ourselves of this hurry hurry hurry world. Two family incomes, mom's in a hurry to rush their kids to activities after school, get the dry cleaning, groceries, feed the family, do homework etc etc etc, so those couple of steps to put the cart in the rack, I guess, must be the two extra precopis seconds of thier family time they get from not returning the cart.

I myself seek out a parking space NOT close to the door, but close to a buggy holder so I can have close easy access to put my buggy in the holder.

  6. I've some about the hospital.

One of the doctors that use to work there died suddenley.

They say he now walks the halls of Paulding Hospital.

It is said that late at night, the nurses can be sitting at the station and hear foot steps coming down the hall, they will look and see no on but still hear the foot steps. There is no floor above them.

The older nurses that use to work with this doctor say the foot steps sound just the way this doctor walked. eeeerrrriiiiiee

  7. thank goodness the dupties have changed in the county.

I had one "bas $$$ older deputy stop me a long time ago for driving around the Plaza parking lot twice!

Took me to jail and everything!

I had gone to pick up my little brother at the movies and pulled up to the door, the movie had not let out yet so I drove back around to the little gas station island that used to be there. When I first came in the parking lot the station was open, when I went back around to get gas while I waited for the movie to let out, it was closed, so I proceeded back to the theather to park and wait when a deputy pulled me over. He also said I was drag racing, (in a 4 door century buick with a govenor on it, get real).

So he takes me to jail, starts to book me, when I told him my name, one of the dupties recognized my name and talked to the deputy and then came over and told me to go home and forget about all this.

Of course I was grateful since I had done nothing wrong.

So I would say, it has made some great improvements over the past years!!

  8. sorry fasn8nmom,

    didn't mean to offend truckers.

I just feel like during rush hour traffic times, they should avoid the secondary roads. I understand the increase is due to the new transfer station on 278 in Cobb/Douglas county.

I have just learned as well that the traffic on 285 is so horrindus that the trucks take the secondary roads to by pass Atlanta traffic. This is totally understandable, but it would be nice if there were a simple solution.

    Answer me one question though.

On the rural 4 lane highways, why do these trucks get in the left hand lane, stay there for no apparent reason. Also, why do they get in another lane next to another big rig at a red light. Both trucks are slow taking off and the traffic really backs up due to this. One truck is not going to get ahead of the other before they are at the next light. It is very frustrating to car drivers.

How can we stop them from being so inconsiderate?

  9. Let's not forget, Clarks provides a service for the county with a 911 zone contract. There are a LOT of people in this county that Clark provides service for because he has the 911 zoning contract and there are a LOT of these people he provides services to for FREE!!!!!!! (This is why they should get their portion of the monies that is given to the Fire Department)

Yes, a lot of these people can't pay him.

Did you also know that Clarks runs a lot of courtesy calls for the county?

Think about the following when it is taking them 45 minutes to get to your REAL emergency. They are sent on a call to assist someone who fell and can not get up. They are NOT transported at all, they just needed help and had no one to help them. They don't even get paid for this.

The police or sheriffs department will send them to a domestic and they stand by there (sometimes before the SO even arrives) and wait for long periods of time, JUST IN CASE SOMEONE GETS HURT!

Clarks is not used only for emergencies like they are suppose to, they do all these things listed above. Some are done because they have no other choice and the others are done because that is just the way Sam is. He nor his crew would ever feel good about themselves if they did not go help the little old man or woman that fell and can't get up.

Don't misunderstand me, the fire department needs the funding to improve their services too. But this should be a team approach.

I understand there are people/a person writing up Clarks for silly things trying to get the Region I director to pull their license so either the county can start providing ambulance service or another company come in and put up ambulances. If the person trying to run off Clarks and wants to have the county take it over, I would be very afraid, they don't have the money right now to fully staff the fire departments much less an ambulance service. I do hope that this persons (writing them up) goal is not to take over providing EMS service.

It would be interesting if another ambulance service comes to the county to see if suddenly the new ambulance company gets county money.

  10. Here are some facts: (As I have been told by the horses mouth)

    1. Clark ambulance has 3 adavanced life support trucks. These trucks carry and use life saving equipment and drugs in which they have saved many lives with.

    2. They have a day truck (12 hours) to do the non-emergency transfers etc.

    3. The county will not give them money for adding more units, their portion alloted to them is going to the fire deparment, (I believe my source is reliable) therfore Clarks can not afford to put up any more trucks unless the county is willing to help him out. Ask your Commisioner about this before you vote for them.

    4. The fire department now has an EMT at each station (at least they told me that) and they respond like any other county does to each call to 911. Now what they are trained to do and whether or not they do it is a whole other game. They are suppose to be able to provide basic care like oxygen, IV fluids, IV glucose (sugar water) etc. I hear though that not all of them are doing this but the county is giving them the money to provide this service but none goes to Clarks.

    5. David Loftin only makes sure the ambulances are functioning under the rules and regulations set forth by Region I and the state. He has no control over who gets what money.

    6. The emergency committee has a seat available for fire and EMS. Believe it or not, NO one from Clarks is allowed to sit on this committee. The fire department gets both seats because they have fire and what they call rescue (which they get the seat saying they are care providers.) Now why doesn't Clark get a seat on the committee so they can have input to what needs to be done. Interesting huh?

Their Medical Director doesn't even have a say with the county.

Just a few factoids from your local emergency care interested person.

  11. B) Paulding Co High School class of '77. Think it was the largest graduating class up to that year, something like 286 of us good ole country folk made it. And we have jobs. Go figure
  12. No it is not just you. I have noticed a hugh increase!

I posted a note wondering if we could pass laws that any vehicle over 4 wheels, not be allowed on the highways or interstates during rush hour. They really slow things down.

I got behind a garbage truck one morning and had to stop with it every 10 ft. You could not go around the truck due to not being able to see around it. There were several other cars directly behind it so I had doubts of ever getting around the truck. A usually 10 minute trip took me in excess of 25 minutes to get to my destination. I believe these vehicles are a major part of our traffic jams in the mornings and evening.

Maybe some of these trucks could do their business during the night hours when there is less traffic, people are in bed. It would be safer that way.

  13. What ever it is going to be, I'm sure the people of Paulding Co will continue their history of breaking National records the first night it opens. Has no one EVER eaten at one the restaraunts before? When the Road House opened, they had to close early because they ran out of food!!!!!

Are we that desperate to knock the doors down and eat. That's why there are so many let's say, over weight people in this county. :o

  14. Does anyone know if you can write down the violators tag number and call it in to the Sheriff's Dept and if they can take action just off the callers word?

I have done this several times on people that blatantly run red lights but I don't know if anything was ever done about it.

One day I was following a man that would stop at the red light, then take off, like it was a 4 way stop sign and he had the right to go first. He did this at 5 red lights before I turned off to my destination. I called in his tag number but I don't know if anything was ever done.

    Curious

  15. I have the solution to the road problem

From now on when they build roads or they can fix the existing ones this way.

Get rid of the red lights, build overpasses at intersections so the traffic can keep flowing. Have exit ramps at each intersection if someone wants to get off.

It is these stupid red lights that cause the back up. There is one every 20 feet whereever you go now a days. Then this would also keep people from either running the light or they can stay awake now and not sleep through a light.

Another temporary fix would be have NO trucks with more than 4 wheels (that includes trucks pulling trailers with yard equipment on them) on the highways during rush hours.

I got behind a garbage truck one morning about 0700 and a 10 minute drive took me 25 minutes due to all the stops. Do this while everyone is sleeping and few cars are on the road, it would be safer for them too.

The big rigs could deliver their loads during the night time too. These guys drive these trucks like they drive their cars. They get in the left lane at red lights when they are going to be behind another big rig when the light turns green. WHats up with that? They ride in the left lane all the time and you can not get around them. What is the fascination with the left lane. Come to think of it, everybody rides in the left lane regardless of their speed or if they are turning left up ahead or not.

Sorry got off on a tangent. But if people would just drive their cars and not multi-task while driving, most of the problems would be resolved.

Just several of my opinions

  16. I've heard a lot of talk lately bashing our EMS service and some about the police/sheriff departments. I know it is an election year, but how come these services are good until it is an election year?

    What is you all's opinion?

  17. I drive 24 miles one way. Was a nice country drive until those sub-divisons starting popping up. What used to be a 15 minute drive has turned into a 30-40 minutes drive just due to the increase in traffic.

Fortunately, I work 24 hour shifts every 4 days so it is not too bad, could be worse. <_<

  18. I think it would be a great idea. My father was one of the doctors who helped care for victims. He also orchestrated Sandy's (stewardess on flight) transfer to Ga. Baptist Hospital. We went to the 20 year reunion and it was so special.

I think everyone who was involved in the crash should be memorialized and maybe a plaque recognizing all those who stopped and helped, if possible.

I know that the county pulled together, the hospital, ambulance service and mutual aide all did an outstanding job for a disaster that big and unimaginable for this county. KUDO's to everyone!!!!!

  19. I want to take the time to recognize our local ambulance service. Clark Ambulance. I have been around a lot of ambulance services and the people of Paulding need to feel secure in the fact that Paulding has a great service to meet their needs.

As in every business, these men and women only hear the negatives of their jobs. I would like to tell them the positive.

In my observations, they deliver high quailty patient care especially compared to some other small county services.

These people risk their lives everyday to help others in need, they are put in some hostile and dangerous situtaitons but still they keep coming back to help their fellow citizens.

Last week was EMS week if no one was aware. Please the next time you see one of Clark employees, tell them how much you appreciate them.

As with ANY service, whether it be police, fire , EMS, hospitals, etc, there is always room for improvement and I know our services continue to strive to be the best every day.

Paulding is growing fast and our county is trying to keep up. There are a lot of growing pains that come along with it, so tell them thank you for their service and let's all do what we can to help them be the best.

    :D
