  1. This is a public forum, you are allowed to ask questions like this. You werent being disrespectful at all, so please dont feel bad mafia. I have noticed that some people have double standards when it comes to things like this, they can ask mean questions IN a thread of a childs death, but if someone starts an innocent seperate one to find out if they knew the person, then they have something to say about that. Im sorry there havent been any replies, at least there wasnt anyone being disrespectful about the young man that died. Im sorry, I dont know him and cant help, and hopefully someone will come along that can help you. But please dont feel bad, you didnt do anything wrong.

    Rape suspect denied bond

    Columbus Ledger-Enquirer

There was a knife on his hip, but I don't recall them saying it was in his hand A Hiram, Ga., man accused of raping a 12-year-old girl is being held without bond after his appearance on Friday in Columbus Recorder's Court.

Steven Blevins, 27, of Hiram stood silent before Senior Recorder's Court Judge Michael P. Cielinski while his accusers waited nearby for their turn to speak at his preliminary hearing. When asked questions about the allegation, the girl answered in short phrases, testifying that Blevins had raped her three times.

'Because he threatened to kill me,' the girl said when asked why she hadn't told anyone of the alleged incidents.

Blevins was arrested July 29 and charged with rape and making terroristic threats. He has a $5,000 bond on the terroristic threats charge, with no bond on the rape charge, he will remain behind bars.

The charges stem from alleged threats Blevins made to a man with whom he was staying in a room at a Victory Drive motel. Columbus Police officer Anthony Locey testified he was told Blevins, while drunk, had threatened his co-worker's life.

'There was a knife on his hip, but I don't recall them saying it was in his hand,' Locey said.

Locey then saw Blevins outside with a security guard, where he was arrested. Shortly afterward, the allegations of rape came to light.

Sgt. Tom Plock testified the girl gave a statement that she had sex with Blevins after he was released from jail in the spring. Plock added that Blevins was out on bond from Spalding County on a child molestation charge.

'He forced himself on her,' Plock said. 'He also left a hickey on her neck.'

Plock said Blevins began staying at the motel in early July. The most recent alleged incident occurred in late July at the motel, when other adults were present, but asleep.

When asked by the judge if she had anything to change in the officers' testimony, the girl said it was correct.

Defense in bike trail killing may turn to capital defenders

The Associated Press - DALLAS, Ga.

A lawyer for a convicted rapist charged with murdering Jennifer Ewing on the Silver Comet bike trail said Monday he plans to ask Georgia's capital defenders office to take over the case.

Tom Driggers, chief public defender for the Paulding Judicial Circuit, also said he expects the case against Michael William Ledford will go before the grand jury in late August.

An initial hearing for Ledford was held Monday before Chief Magistrate Martin E. Valbuena.

Ledford, 43, wore wrist and ankle restraints and a bulletproof vest as he heard the charges against him: felony murder, kidnapping and making false statements.

Paulding County District Attorney Drew Lane said other charges are being considered, depending on the ongoing investigation and crime lab tests. He reiterated that he will consider seeking the death penalty. Lane had mentioned the possibility of a death penalty last week.

Officials said Ledford is being held at the Paulding County Jail.

Lane said it will be up to the defense whether to seek bond for Ledford at a later hearing.

Ledford was charged Friday with murdering Ewing, a 54-year-old mother of three, while she was riding her bicycle on the Silver Comet Trail in northwest Georgia.

Authorities have said Ewing fought back against her attacker before dying of blunt force trauma to the head and chest. Multiple news organization have reported that police focused on Ledford after he suffered wounds below his waist the day of Ewing's attack and then changed his story about how he was injured.

Ledford was convicted of raping a Paulding County woman in 1991. He is listed on the state's sex offender registry, which gives his address as a house about eight miles from where Ewing was killed.

State records show Ledford served nearly 10 years in prison after his 1991 conviction for rape in the attack of a 22-year-old Dallas woman. After he was denied parole three times, the state released him in 2001. He is serving 10 years of probation.

Ewing often took 50-mile rides on the Silver Comet Trail. Her family called police when she failed to return home after her ride on Tuesday. Her body was found a day later.

The Silver Comet Trail begins about 13 miles northwest of Atlanta. It runs 57 miles from Smyrna to the state line along an abandoned freight rail corridor, winding through Cobb, Paulding and Polk counties.

The Georgia Capital Defenders Office is a trial resource center for attorneys handling death penalty cases. It is available in capital felony cases to help locally appointed counsel, according to the organization's Web site.

The office was created as a result of the cooperation between the Georgia General Assembly and the Georgia Supreme Court

  4. Thanks everyone :-)

The only thing I can figure is the wood was in the road and a car on the other side hit it and it flew over onto our windshield :-( Yes, we were very lucky! Off to make some more calls, thanks again everyone

  5. A piece of wood came flying from the other side of Dallas Highway this morning and hit our windshield, shattered a BIG spot and then cracked all the way across in both directions. It literally looks like its gonna cave in any minute and sure cant afford a ticket if we get pulled over ughhhhh. Know anybody good and cheap?

  6. I promise you wont regret this *hugs* I have been in your situation, left him, and raised my 3 kids, who are a year apart, and were 1,2, & 3 at the time. It will be very hard and trying, but you are a strong woman and can do this. Just always remember WHY you did it and keep looking forward. God Bless you and your children, I will continue to pray and keep y'all in my thoughts.

  7. prayers said, you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers, I also have a little "angel niece"

Today I have a very heavy burden and I really need anyone and everyone who believes in prayer to help me pray. Today I found out that my little neice (21 months) has an enlarged heart and a condition that may eventually cause her to need a pacemaker. Well this little girl is truly my angel Baby. Her Grandparents and me love her very much. Please help me pray that God will correct that that needs to be corrected in time. I know he can as he already did the same for my own 6 yr old before she was even born. Thank you for taking the time to pray. May God Bless you
