A few years ago there was something in the community paper that comes on Thursdays. A house caught fire in Bentwater (NE Paulding). Normal procedure is for the FD to dispatch an engine to the scene. Then he/she calls for the ladder, or whatever other equipment is needed. Of course, but the time the ladder truck came up from Dallas, the house was burned to the ground.
This got me thinking about the FD and the level of service, the capabilities of the department and the resources that they have. When I lived in Cobb, a house in my neighborhood caught fire. I remember there were 10 different trucks and probably 30 firemen. Quite a response for a true metro fire department.
Also while I lived in Cobb son was burned. In less than 5 minutes, an MFD Engine 52 (4 men), Rescue 52 (EMT with paramedic) and the ambulance service (EMT with paramedic) was at my door. Eight men for one little boy needing assistance.
I know that it will take time for PCFD to transition to a fully paid force. Previous experience with the Cobb and Marietta Fire Departments can only give me an idea of where the PCFD can go and the level of service they can/will offer.

Do you scan the Clark frequencies?
155.265, 155.34 and 155.175?

Iko,
I would encourage you to contact Joe. He has always given me more than enough information when requested. One thing to consider is that your homeowner's insurance company puts you in "coverage zones." If you are close to a FD, your rates go down drastically, enough to cover any "fire tax" increase. For instance, when I bought in NE Paulding, State Farm thought I was a great distance from station 6, with a greater than 5 minute response time. I let them know that the station is "only" 6 miles, door to door. It dropped the yearly premium from $1200 to just over $500 per year. Wouldn't you spend $100 (or whatever the fire tax would be) if it would save you $600 in insurance costs?

Qtee, That video says a lot. I worked in the Atlanta Public School system doing some contract I.T. work a few years ago. I visited over 50% of their schools. The middle schools were definitely scary.
P.S. What happened to "stick 'em up?"

Hiya Freebird,
I am giving a link to a thread that was started in April. This might give you some insight on why a lot of parents take their children to school instead of letting them ride the bus.
Thanks for the link, QTee.

I am having a lot of trouble find anything about these candidates. No web-sites (that I can find) or newspaper articles. Only John Henderson's announcement to run.
Any pointers will be appreciated.

If they really needs help, call *DOT and request a HERO unit be dispatched to aid the person.
I don't think *DOT works on Nextel.

I have been enjoying the lighter summer traffic. Then it dawned on me - I wonder why all those mini-van and SUV driving parents drive their kids to school when bus service is available.
Can anyone shed any light on this?

Enforcement starts with the county's Community Development Director. They have a very poor enforcement practice and I am told the Ga. Soil & Water Conservation Commission will be meeting with them to discuss in July.
The best thing you can do is take pictures and contact the county.
I wrote Ben Skipper once and he showed up on my front doorstep the following day. The developer cleared up the erosion issues quickly.
His office suffers from low staffing and the ability to drive around looking for violations. Once a complaint is made, many times it is too late to do anything about the damage that has already been done by the poor erosion controls. He can only force the developer to fix the problem, not fix the damage done.
Did you know that there is no state law forcing a developer to clean up a stream or lake after the damage has been done? All the state/county can do is force the developer to become compliant with the erosion abatement policy.

Your post should not include anything that might shed a poor light on the Sheriff's office either. I have posts that are in limbo too. Doubt I will ever see them or answers via the forum.

I thought Cheyenne Mountain was where the Stargate was kept.

Do you know of any playgroups in your area? They are good for a visit once a week. Making the rounds to each member's house is fun and different for my 3 and 5 year old boys.

I find them quite tasty lightly toasted on the grill. Then add a little hot sauce to your liking.

I was pleased that 9 (out of 15 requested by the DPS) new firefighter positions along with 21 new positions for Deputies will be added.
Anyone know where the expense for county attorney services is line itemized?
Overall, it looks like the additions to the FD and Sheriff's department are a good start to making each department stronger. Any thoughts?

Freebird,
24 went fine, and theres a possibility that I may work for an ambulance service within the county. But I take my job serious and like you would, defend my place, or places of employment. I dont take criticism very well.
Blackeye,
What criticism was dished out your way? I thought the disagreement was whether or not a PC Rescue unit could be used to transport a patient in the event that Clarks was delayed. Do you not agree that if a paramedic were stationed at the remote firehouses, we would see a higher level of care?
I am only looking for solutions to a higher level of care for ALL the citizens of Paulding. If that is via Clarks or the FD, I don't care. I just feel strongly that there needs to be improvements in service for the remote areas. Make your views be known to the county commission....
-
You need to contact Ben Skipper, bskipper@paulding.gov. He is the community development directory and will assign an inspector to investigate.
If the county does not clean up the developer, I would also suggest that you file a complaint with the Georgia Soil & Water Conservation Commission in Rome, gawcc.org. Richard King is a great resource for these issues.
The county does not have the ability to check every subdivision, so you have to be their eyes and ears. Once the developer is getting visits from the county, they will start keeping up with erosion control.
-
Blackeye, you state that you are a county employee. I was under the impression that you were with Clarks, not the FD.
Anyway, how did your 24 go?

they'll have to grease 'em up like a watermellon at a pool party.....

mrsbhavn, I have an idea. Invite each of us over, one at a time, and we can give you some suggestions on how to improve your current list. Then we can share a few of our favorites recipes with you.
I'll volunteer for the first shift! Home cooked meals are a rarity in my neck of the woods.

Joe,
Thanks for this update. The building of new firehouses AND personnel additions are dependant on SPLOST? I doubt that the personnel additions are, but I wanted that clarified.
Can you give us an update on when your proposed budget, along with the 15 additional firefighters requested, will be reviewed/adopted by the county commission? What can each of us do to make sure this budget is fully funded?
Do current forecasts for firehouses and personnel currently include paramedics in the future? If so, what type of timeframe are we looking at?
Thanks for your reply.
