  1. This is a thought. I have a 11 year old and I am 33 going on 58. Anyway I now the technogies going around that it is possible but my thing is husband is in grading. All of you know that is not doing great. Then there is my daughter she claims she would be alright but she has been the only thing that has kept life going for me. Anyway my family does not think it would be a wise decision, I know why do I even care. My mother's side is very high and mighty and they will just bash me. Anyway me and my husband have married different religions if you also want to bring that in.

Anyway the finances are not that great but if I wait I know what the decision will be and if anybody knows me I am a very out there person emotionally if you know what I mean.

    Any opinions nice or mean.

Oh can I just say this thought has been on my mind for 5 years and has been making me sick.

    Thank you

You need to follow what is in your heart (as long as hubby is of the same belief). I have never thought money should be a factor. No matter what people say about taking away from your daughter, the only things that are truly important are love, family, & health. You can buy used items for your kids and they can still be perfectly happy. Most items you can get at garage sales pretty cheap. They don't HAVE to have new designer jeans to be happy.

  2. Congrats on the deer. My daughter would always go hunting with my hubby when we lived in Alabama and had land to hunt on. She would get her backpack together and hubby said that when they got to their spot, she would break out her colored pencils and start drawing and coloring. When the deer came up she would stop what she was doing and watch. I miss those days!

How old is she? I am asking because she looks about my daughter's age and I haven't let her go yet. I don't know what age to say ok....

  3. I cant believe it pcom has no advice/opinions/etc?

I absolutely would not send my child. There have been too many cases of these things not being taken seriously & the school is not the police so I don't really care if they think they are "prepared" for it. It would be one thing if they send a note home saying this is what happened and this is what we are doing (I.E. having police meet him at the door to search him) etc.. BUT, since you don't know how they are handling it, I would not send my child. IMO safety trumps everything.

  4. bump

I have a question for creativeone and others involved with animals.....

I see a lot of ppl placing adds on craigslist for finding a home for their pet. I have hesitated going this route because I want to make sure fred gets a good home. Do you guys feel craigslist is a good way to get the word out? Is there any way to really screen ppl on there to make sure their intentions are good?

I really want to thank everyone who has been so kind about this and didnt jump down my throat. I was expected to get a lot of negative comments and I know that we are making the only choice we can but it still is making this that much easier on me, so thank you! We have had a rough couple of years between losing our home and moving and with our pets and this is really heartbreaking with everything else we have gone through. We had what we called our '3 origianl pets' and they have all passed in the past 2 years due to age/health/cancer. Then when we moved our turtle of 6 years died over night and the other one escaped from the habitat we built for her (which was the same as at our other house so not sure how), our 10 year old goldfish died, I had to find a home for my birds bc of the baby and fred......its just been very rough on us and our children. Now I know why my mom always said its very hard owning pets bc you love them like a family memeber and then sadly something happens....I just didnt think it would happen in such a short period of time. :(

Thank you again for all of your well wishes, kind words, and any advice.

We went through a similar situation (adopted a dog and he couldn't/wouldn't get along with our other dogs & our children). We gave it about the same amount of time and then we decided to return him to the shelter. We are hoping and praying that he got re-adopted since he was a beautiful, young dog. I was afraid to try Craigslist because I have heard so many mean things about people on there & pets. However, in hindsight, there is no guarantee with the shelter either. They have people sign a form, but they don't do background checks or anything. I have been worried about this dog since, as I know that the shelter does put some down each month. I sort of wish we could have found a home ourselves and been willing to try craigslist. On the other hand, you do need to be leary, especially now, of strangers coming to your home. With all the break-ins, it is scary to let people you don't know see what kind of things you have. Plus, me and my kids are home alone a lot in the daytimes and I just don't like taking that risk. Good luck though. I know you are facing a tough decision. My older child who was afraid of the dog, still cried for several weeks after we gave him back.

  5. :pardon: I think its more of a height weight thing. But don't take my word for it.

I have had people swear to me that there is a new law that says age 8. Someone even told me that their child had that on the drivers test. However, I can not find that law anywhere. Everywhere I look, I only find a law that says age 6 by law. (But it IS recommended to stay in one longer). Here is a link:

I have asked the SD if this is the newest law and they said yes.

  6. Authorities are investigating an infant that was critically injured this morning at Whisperwood Apartments on Six Flags Drive in Austell. Injuries included broken bones, internal injuries, and a fractured skull. Mom says a plastic box of wipes fell on the child 2 days ago....

Um, my one year old falls off the couch (she gets on by herself too) and she pulls the baby monitor on her head & all sorts of things and seems to bounch pretty good. I just don't think that could cause ALL of those injuries. Maybe a freak accident on the soft spot or something, but its not like the things fell 10x to break mulitple bones.

  7. My sister spent Saturday with HR. I didn't think anything about it, until we saw my sister again last night. Sister says 'Hey! Watch this! Nevaeh, what color is your shirt?'. HR responds 'RED!!!!'....her shirt was green. Then she points to something red and says 'What color is this?', and HR responds 'GREEN!!!'. Seriously? She's been swearing since I was pregnant that she was going to teach my kid red is green and green is red, but I never thought she'd actually do it. We've worked SO hard to get all of her colors down pat, and now they've been messed up simply to amuse a teenager. <_<

Im sorry for you, but that made me LOL! What a completely sisterly thing to do!

  8. Excellent post! We should all do what we can to support our friends & family in quitting. Too many people just ignore the problem & have a feeling of apathy. While we can't control others and make them want to quit, I am sure there are ways that we can help them move in the right direction. It is especially sad to me when I see people smoking in front of their children, despite the known risks.

  9. OH MY :( ....

I contacted everyone that I knew that had a red&white husky, all home and accounted for .... but I'm sure there is someone out there missing their friend.

Wish Southernfriedyankee was still here .... she might know who it belonged to ......

and YES -- a loose husky can go miles without even blinking!!

    any update?

Well, I cancelled animal control because the dog got away. He was back at my neighbor's a little bit ago though. I haven't had any luck finding an owner and I don't know if I should try animal control again or not. I am afraid that the dog may get sicker there. Do they have a vet on staff or anything? I just don't know what to do but I just feel so bad for the poor dog.

  10. Red & white Husky found. Don't know what happened to it, it's neck is injured so it may have been in a fight or hit. It is walking around and alert so I don't think it is in immediate danger. It is a larger husky. It's coat is sort of shaggy looking so it may have been missing a little while, but it doesn't look to be starving or anything. I have called animal control, but am hoping we can find who it belongs to before they get here. Keep in mind, these dogs can run miles so if you know a missing one, please let me know. Our number is 770-505-6097.

  11. Thanks.

Now who has seen them around? Are they still really hard to find right now?

Yes, the gamecube games will work.

The system itself is about $250, but expect to buy more because it only comes with one controller & no docking station. You are sure to want at least one additional controller (about $40 I think) and you will most likely want a recharging station unless you want to fly through batteries. If you want to get what you really need, you will probably be looking at about $400.00

I got mine at the Walmart in Rockmart. It is a lot more difficult to find them closer to home. When I went, they had 3 and said they normally have them in stock, at least for now.

If you decide to do it, I would do it soon. Remember that for the past two years, you couldn't get a DS or Wii any where once it hit Christmas time!

  12. They are VERY different. The Wii is fun. The 360 is also fun but more for serious gaming IMO. I prefer the 360 if I was only getting one system.

I agree that the xbox is for more serious gaming. I don't know how old your kids are but the Wii is more of the fun games & they have a lot more variety in non-violent and young age-appropriate games. They are also backwards compatible so if you kids have GameCube, etc...their games will play in the Wii. It is also more active (depending on the games you choose). I won't allow my kids to have an Xbox because I feel way too many of the games are just too intense. It's all personal opinion though. I got my daughter one for Xmas (I don't think they will available closer to it). I have played both and have more fun with the WII.

  13. And I never said there wasn't an actual shortage.

I wasn't singling you out or anything. I just saw your post about the shortage & I know a lot of people on here think everyone was rushing to get more gas than normal. I just wanted to point out why I don't think that makes sense. I have tried and I just logically can't come up with anything when I know so many people who have no gas.

Thankfully, I don't have to go out much so I haven't had a real problem yet.

  14. I didn't say there wasn't a shortage. There IS.

I saw tonight on the local news an interview with the guy who runs the Doraville distribution center. He said they were sending out their NORMAL INVENTORY to all places they supply, but what is a normal 3-day supply is now being consumed in mere hours. He said that demand is adding to the "shortage," and I happen to believe he's correct. When people are panicked that they won't get ANY gas, they get MORE than they normally would on any given day to guard against running out. The system they use to supply doesn't account for EVERYONE filling up their tanks as often as they can. When people do, the supply we *do* have is gone that much more quickly.

But no--it would be foolish for anyone to assert that our supply isn't diminished--but adding the unprecedented demand to a decreased supply has created a situation where it looks like the "shortage" is actually greater than it is.

I don't really see how there is an unprecedented demand on gas. Everyone that I know is conserving and trying not to drive when they don't have to. A few are even going to miss work tomorrow because they don't have gas to get there. I do not know one single person that has bought more gas than they did in the past. The news shows daily how many cars are running out of gas on the road while searching for a place to fill up. Certainly, they aren't the ones causing the shortage.

It makes sense to me that the gas stations are running out in 3-4 hours instead of days. On a normal day, there are a lot of gas stations (I don't know how many) in Paulding county. Right now, only 3-4 gas stations have gas at any given point. Of course they are going to run out quickly. Consumers don't have the choice of where they are going. I very rarely get gas at QT, but had to get it there today because they had it and no place near my house had it. I am sure the same can be said of a lot of people.

I don't see how the shortage can be attributed to people and "their panic". It would have balanced out by now. Too many people are out of gas so they can't all have it stockpiled. Plus, as Tow said, he is going to use that gas during the next two weeks whether he bought it today or spread over time. If a ton of people had rushed out and horded gas, thus causing the shortage...it would be gone by now. Those people would have had plenty of gas to last them & they would not have returned to the gas station for quite some time. During that time, others would have been able to fill up. I just don't see it being possible that this shortage is the result of people using too much gas.

I have to say that the person who said we are in an experiment might be right. I am not one to believe in conspiracy theories, but it seems awfully suspect to me that we are still having this problem when all the oil refineries and such were only shut down for about a week.

  15. Well that is why I rarely put anything on this site, no matter how innocent it is somone tries to make a big deal out of it. What I didn't mention: My grandchildren live in a nearby neighborhood. I was concerned for their safety because even though I wondered if it was indeed a road block for ins. and licenses, no one was being stopped. So I jumped on the web site right away to see if anyone had a topic about it and never even looked at anything else "all over the website." Thank you for your insight, inspite of your insinuations. Have a happy weekend.

  16. yep. Let's nevermind folk driving without a license, under the influence, without insurance, or in a stolen car. Let's nevermind every posted speed limit and let folk drive however fast they'd like around curves, and through stop signs. Let's nevermind all the folk behind the wheel who have active warrants out on them for armed robbery, arson, rape and murder.

Let's nevermind all of them and only arrest drug dealers.

What's that you say? Your three year old was run over buy someone who's just committed murder, is driving a stolen car with no insurance 30 miles above the posted speed limit while intoxicated?

At least he wasn't dealing drugs.

JUST PASSED LANCASTER ON DALLAS-NEBO. COUNTED 13 POLICE CARS AND THE ROAD LOOKED LIKE NO ONE COULD GET THROUGH. ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEA AT ALL WHAT IS GOING ON THERE???

  17. Thanks, that is very helpful. I noticed that you said not to plan on being home every night & I totally understand that. Would it be realistic to expect my husband to be home once a week? Also, you talked about not making money with a sitting truck, so do they give you time off? I am assuming they must if you do it on the side...

  18. As many of you know, my husband got laid off last year. He has been doing side jobs and such, but has not been able to find a decent paying permanent job. We have talked about him getting his CDL and driving a truck, but don't know a lot about it. The companies seem to be hiring & they seem to offer decent enough pay (according to what they say). Does anyone have actual experience with this? How the whole thing works as far as how they pick who goes on what routes? Do the individual drivers sign up for routes they want or are they assigned? Is it like they can control how much they work or are they told how many miles they will take each week? Realistically, how often would he be home and would he be home a couple days at a time, etc... We just want to get a feel for it in order to make an informed decision. I know a couple of people who really like this work, but my husband is a family man and does not want something where he will never have time with us. Thanks

  19. He is from Ethiopia. We can't help the name we're given. But changing his name may be his best option. He shouldn't have to. Accusation shouldn't smear one forever. In this case, he may have no other choice.

Accusation shouldn't smear one forever, but it does. That is just reality that he needs to deal with. The newspaper should not have to go back and "erase" a legitimate article. They should have done a follow-up on his innocence though. I wouldn't have a problem with them being required to add a note to the end of the article so that every time someone googled this guy, they would see the article and then also see a note that the charges were dropped and nothing came of them...

  20. I am in the same boat.

And to the people asking about not being friends with people who drink or smoke and us putting restrictions on others...it is usually the other way around. It is very hard to find anyone that wants to hang out or do anything that does not involve going to a bar. My hubby and I only have a handful of friends because of this. Not that we mind them drinking, but that they won't do anything we enjoy doing. It always has to be a bar. We have found that while we don't judge others, many people judge us (as boring). Once they find out we aren't into things like that, we rarely hear back. It is just not that easy to find people who want to stay in and play cards or games, etc...

  21. Just wanted to let you know that I had my daughter's at Rountree & it was a great time! Everyone had fun & it was very laid back. I did reserve it longer than the standard 2 hours & we really used up the entire 3 hours. One thing about the Aquatic Center is that they don't allow rafts & floaties so if you have a lot of young kids it can be difficult...
