  1. As for phone numbers...unless they have changed it you can only call landlines from jail. No collect calling to cell phones.

I've been stranded somewhere without my cellphone and the only number I could remember was my friend's parent's house phone. He didn't even live there anymore, but I called it anyway and asked them to call him and for him to come get me, lol!

  2. Also, he didn't take anybody down with him, so that is a good thing. My oldest son had two different friends that took their own lives and were found by their family.

Yea..my friend had decided to randomly do some shopping after school. Got home and the entire house was filled with smoke. He had shut himself in the downstairs garage and turned on his car(a chevelle) and laid down. It took days and many fans to try and get the smell out. He had mental issues and aspergers..they had been treating both for years. So when it happened I wasn't all that surprised..but in this instance...I never saw any indication. Granted since the family is a client its not like we had a very personal relationship or that I saw them a lot but from my experience they are a close loving family. My thoughts and heart go out to them.

  3. That house always annoyed me becuase 1) they built it to close to the road and when Ridge is eventually widened thier entire front yard would have been gone. 2) They spent so much money on the house but they never put grass down. Beautiful lovely house, lots of stains becuase your just walked through a mud pitt in the front and backyard.

  4. At some point this year we are looking to get some electrical work done. Nothing in the house is grounded, so we need that taken care of. There are no outlets in the bathroom and only 2 in the kitchen. So we would like to add some more outlets. Also sometimes using the microwave and the vacuum cleaner at the same time flips the breaker and if we plug in a space heater it burns and melts the extension cord. So whatever will take care of that.

Any have any idea of the general cost of this type of thing?

How long does it take to get it done?

Does someone have to be home the entire time?

If you have any expierence with getting this done, please share.

  5. Knowing how to fight well with a knife is a very important skill. Never know when a knife may be the only thing at your disposal.

But, he is indeed correct, for homedefense (or any kind of defense for that matter) a gun is much better, unless you are trapped in a closet with your attacker.

Also, for practicing edged weapon combat you will want a rubber practice knife (and the best practice is done with another person) it is much safer than practicing with a real knife, not to mention there is no sense in damaging or dulling the blade while practicing.

Another good point, I'd be muchmore comfortable with a rubber knife....can you pick them up almost anywhere or is it a specialty?

  6. I knife makes for a crappy home defense weapon for a number of reasons. Practicing with a knife -- he'll cut himself! For home defense, he needs a gun - nothing more. Oh, yeah, and a security system -- or at least signs that say you have a system.

Guns he has. Quite a few. I still watches every home defense/gun rights show on tv that comes on. But I will pass on the information that many people are disagreeing with his idea. I have the same thoughts of him just hurting himself but when he gets an idea in his head he follows through. Maybe I can talk some more sense in him (not likely though)

  7. Off Scoggins and 61 S. the kids want him but looking for the owners. No tags, purple collar.

Contact twelch (i believe that is her user name) she lives in a neighborhood off of scoggins and has a malamute. I think it gets out sometimes.

  8. You mean he's going to practice sticking a knife into a bag, pretending that it's a person. This is a self-defense thing? And he's going to use this to get into, or maintain physical shape? Why would he use a real knife? He's going to dance around the bag, pretending that the bag is attacking him - and get it good with a good knife stick?

I think that a treadmill works better for exercise! The other thing seems a little bit -- dangerous.

Yea, I think its dangerous which is why i'm dragging my feet getting it done. He is really into home defense. He claims it is something that will interest him and be a form of exercise. He doesn't do so well on the treadmill right now, tends to shake the plates down in the kitchen.

  9. My dad wants me to look for a heavy bag for him, basically he is talking about a punching bag. He wants to tape it up "real good" and then use it practice his "knife skills". Before I go searching for it, is this really what he should be using? Aren't they filled with sand, and no matter how much he tapes it won't it pierce the bag? I hate to discourage him from doing anything that will get him excersing.

And if this is what he should be using, does anyone have one they don't want anymore?

  10. All I can say about my focus...is that is was kind of a POS.....it was a 2002 which I think was the 2nd year they had been out.

The first time I needed brakes I had to get new rotars too( although that happened with my parents sport track too)

My passenger side mirror was knocked off twice, the first time I was backing down the driveway at 3 mph and didn't swing wide enough around a cardboard box, yes thats right a cardboard box took off my mirror. The 2nd time it was a client's mailbox....I was trying to get around the trash can.

In addition to needing new tires almost every year, I had two replace one of the wheels twice.Yes, I know the tire thing is due to me only being able to afford the cheaper tires and not rotating them enough. The wheels though I'm blaming on bad quality.

And when I blew a tire and had to put the doughnut on, there was no wrench included. My boss's 2008 only includes a fix a flat kit.

Needless to say I'm loving the Jeep Compass I just got, and my insurance is TONS cheaper becuase it is considered to be safer car(as far as I can tell anyway).

I have no problem with people in big SUV's as long as you don't complain about the price of gas, actually know how to handle a vehicle that big, and have the family/activites to support it.

  11. From WSB-TV's website (06-11-09)

Dogfighting Kennel Raided In Floyd County

ROME, Ga. -- A raid on Thursday in Floyd County uncovered 18 pit bulls allegedly being groomed for dog fighting. Police said many of the dogs were in bad shape.

Kenyatta Towers, who rents the property at 209 Eden Circle in Rome, Ga., will be charged with animal cruelty and dog fighting, said Lt. Dana Collum of the Floyd County police department.

Police and Floyd County animal control worked with Norred & Associates, an Atlanta-based corporate security and investigative firm, to organize the raid.

    Remainder of Story

Poor pups, just more animals that will be put to sleep.

  12. As for gangs in Paulding County....I've seen quite a few houses spray painted with grafitti and gang symbols. We had the gang unit from Cobb County come talk to my juvenile justice class when I was in school and they showed some disturbing things:

A picture of a 11 year old girls bedroom. Her mother didn't believe she was doing anything wrong, that she was a good girl. From the floor to the window sill the girl had a list of all the gang members and sexual things she had done with them.

They showed a group picture of a church youth group (8-10 yr olds). One little boy had been there for one month, he had gotten atleast 6 kids into a gang in that time span.

And the young kids are who the gangs target, since they are juveniles they can get lesser punishments.

Sometimes you just actually need to stop and take a look around you.

I do hope this incident gets resolved and that witnesses can come forward and not face retaliation.

  13. I think one thing people aren't taking into consideration (although it has been mentioned once or twice) that the man was mentally ill. That gives room for alot more assumptions IMO. I would never classify someone as harmless if they have a mental disease. Something as little as depression can set people off to kill themselves or thier entire family.

And as said before the audio is missing. I don't think you can really make a judgment about what actually happened without hearing it as well. There is to much left out, like it always is.

I also agree that the more stories like this that come out the more danger cops are put in.

As far no cops stoping to help while someone is walking down the side of the road, I've been on plenty of ride alongs as part of my internship while I was in college. One, they are usually to busy or have a destination to get to to stop and help someone that isn't in obvious distress and two, an officer doens't get a good job from his superior if he stops and takes someone home. That can be considered a waste of time and resources( think of the gas crisis last year).

  14. I've never felt safe there either, and it still sucks that for me to go to a friendly bar I have to go to midtown or duluth/decator to do that. Then again the times I've been downtown have been for Fox theater, concerts and going to the occasional bar. I know people that have no problem living down there or in places like little five points. I guess it has alot to do with how much exposure your given to a particular place.

But Atlanta wouldn't be in my top five of dangerous US cities though.

  15. when is the parade? I'm not G,L,B, or T but have always wanted to attend at least one GP Parade, I fully support the gay community and everyone there seems to have such a blast! :)

Well there is usually a pride parade whenever Piedmont Park hosts the pride event. They got the ok to host the pride festival at the park this year(the park was off limits to festivals last year) but they are having it at some odd date. I'd have to look it up.

  16. I would imagine it hadn't been brought up cause the majority of the posters would be straight and the announcement wouldn't affect them, except in some cases to inspire prayer for the souls of the afflicted. I hadn't heard that either though, but I rarely pay attention to things.

The majority of postings I have seen about it are about the hypocrisy(sp?) of it. A president that openly doens't support gay marriage but declares a pride month.

  17. My friends have been discussing this amoung thier journals and what not. I somehow missed the annoucement that June is now GLBT pride month. Hmmmm does that mean I can take the month off from work?

But seriously, I would rather have open acceptance and never hear that my lifestyle is an abomination again then have a month plastered with rainbows.

I was also wondering why it hadn't been brought up on here yet?

  18. Brace yourself. The "Pit Lovers" are preparing to pounce on this topic any second now.

Personally, if the dog was in my yard, coming toward me or mine in an aggressive posture; I'd shoot it.

Now, if its just looking for someone to give'em a pat on the head, thats a different story. ;)

I love pits and own a few. I wouldn't jump to shooting the animal, but you do have the right to protect yourself and your family if a dog gets aggressive with you.

  19. I'd shoot em', but that's me. If a dog is roaming about and you feel threatened - you have a right to protect yourself. And personally, I wouldn't care one bit if the whole breed was eliminated.

and someone PLEASE help me understand - why are pitbulls only in hickish towns or black towns? I don't get it. I've never seen a pitbull in Dunwoody.

They are there. You just don't see them becuase they are contained properly or are house dogs.
