  1. We had these things last year. They were some type of centipede or millipede. They were crunchy, had a bad odor when crushed, and left a stain where crushed. They were on a migration from the front yard to the backyard and tried to go through our basement. A few made it upstairs. However, our basement is extremely dry and they would all die while crossing. We had to sweep out hundreds of them over the course of two months until we found out that Sevin Dust was the answer. We raked out an 18" strip all around the base of the foundation and sprinkled Sevin Dust in that strip. We sprinkled Sevin Dust in front of every outside door. Basically, we had to encircle the house with Sevin Dust. If I remember correctly we used the 5% strength. It worked!! :) You will probably want to wait until the weather looks to be dry for a few days. We haven't seen them again. :yahoo:

  2. There is a smoke shop/cigar store near the corner of Mars Hill Road and Hwy. 41. It's in a strip mall with a butcher and Sidelines Grill. Don't know the name, though.

The one on the E/W Connector and Powder Springs is probably Smokin' Joes: 2667 Powder Springs Road SW, Suite 110, Marietta, GA 30064

    Phone: (770) 439-4005

  3. Walmart and Publix have been placing a big trash bin next to the fresh corn for a few years now so that customers can shuck it right there. I find it very helpful as I hate to do it at home and have to dispose of the mess. It's just another service provided by the stores as a convenience to their customers. If I find a rotten or wormy piece of corn I just lay it to the side of the table and leave it there. I've never seen corn sold by weight so I don't see where any harm is being done. I always break apart the bananas to get the number I want. I will move grapes from bag to bag to get the amount I want. I think that is why they are in unsealed bags...they try to pack them in 2-3 lb. increments as a general convenience but if I only want 1 lb. I move some to another bag. I won't eat grapes or any other item or allow my kids to while shopping if it's not already paid for.

  4. Good old fashioned cash (maybe in the form of a generic Visa/Mastercard gift card) is still a great gift. They can choose their own color/style item then. That with a note from each student telling what they like about the teacher or the best thing she did all year would be welcome by the majority of teachers.

  5. Thanks for weighing in. It is my understanding that this was done by said mans brother to cover up for said man which is why I am curious.

If there is anyone who actually knows I would be interested. And if I recall right the fire was around 5 years ago but I found nothing while googling.

"In March 2001, the 1892 courthouse was the target of arson. Although the building survived, the district attorney's office was destroyed. As a result of the fire, Paulding County courts were forced to find meeting space outside the courthouse." http://georgiainfo.galileo.usg.edu/courtho.../pauldingCH.htm

    "Man arrested on arson charge

DALLAS - A Paulding County man is accused setting a fire early Sunday at the county courthouse in Dallas.

Daniel Lee Ledford, 32, has been charged with arson and destroying government property. Investigators took him into custody about 5 p.m. after deciding that someone purposely set the 1 a.m. fire.

Georgia Insurance Commissioner John Oxendine said the district attorney's office was targeted and that the fire started on the courthouse's first floor. No one was injured in the blaze, and Mr. Oxendine described the damage as serious but "nothing that can't be fixed."

Officials have not said what led them to Mr. Ledford, only that they found physical evidence both inside and outside the building."

    ETA#2:

Mr. Ledford is currently in prison based on info at the Georgia Dept. of Corrections website. You can search here for current and past inmates for details: http://www.dcor.state.ga.us/GDC/OffenderQu.../OffQryForm.jsp

  6. Ok, all the snake topics on here are driving me crazy. I know they can be anywhere, BUT I want to know if anyone near me has had a problem with them this year. There are alot of woods around us. I live off of business 6, Coach Bobby Dodd and Graham Rd. Does anyone on p.com live near me that has had a problem with them, or seen them around???

I don't live near you and have not seen any snakes yet in my neck of the woods (west Cobb). We usually do once or twice in the summer, though. Last fall the kids told me about a funny looking worm out by the mailbox and I went to see. It was a baby snake about 4 inches long. Took me a minute to realize it was a snake...the wide head and tiny tongue did it! I just left it alone. I'm glad for the good ones that help keep down on the rodent population (Can they eat chipmunks? That would be good, those things are a pain). Take a look at these pages and learn about them. They'll seem less scarey when you are familiar with their appearance and habits.

ETA: I just read that many snakes mate in the spring and give birth in August so the males are probably on the prowl right now. Typical! ;)

  7. I waited at the corner of Dallas-Acworth Hwy. and Hwy. 41 in Cobb. I preferred to be away from a crowd and be further away to hopefully let them know still yet more people cared about Ryan. I am grateful for his devotion and sacrifice and feel such sympathy for his parents and family. All traffic stopped to allow the procession through. We had a flag we held out the window (I had my 4 y.o. in tow and didn't want to have him on the road). I took one photo of some of the motorcyclists but couldn't bring myself to photograph the hearse or mourners. It was so sad. RIP Ryan King.

  8. I don't even like the graduation celebrations that the PTSA puts on for the 5th graders. I just think it's too much...save it for high school. But, we'll be attending anyway on the last day of school. I also don't look forward to the pre-school graduation ceremony when my youngest finishes his final year there. He doesn't want to walk down the aisle alone to receive a "diploma" and will be so unhappy...sort of like being forced to be a ring-bearer...all those people looking at him. It's just not necessary.

  9. Here is a link to the website for Gadsden. It is nice. YOu will drive right through Rockmart and Cedartown.

THe name of the Park is Noccalula Falls Park and is right in town. There is an Indian legend with a statue at the top of it. It should be beautiful with all the rain we have had.

Thanks! That park looks like a great place for a day trip once school is out. I like the train ride, the animals, miniature golf, the pioneer buildings, and the falls. Will be fun and educational.

  10. I agree that once government gets its claws into something like these restrictions they won't let it go easily. Some bureaucrat might be out of a job if the restrictions are lifted!

I really want to be able to fill a kiddie pool this summer and turn the sprinkler on for 20 mintues for the kids to play in without fear of a fine.

  11. A nice day at White Oak park would be fun. It is a wonderful Park.

You can have a picnic, play frisbee golf, fish etc.

Also, since gas is cheap you could just take a leasurly day trip. We often take a trip on West 278 and go to Gadsden. Beautiful park there with a wonderful waterfall.

That sounds wonderful. Please share a little more info on this park so I can locate it. Thanks!

  12. Poor kid! Think about making an appointment with a dentist for when the wires come off to have his teeth checked. I've seen that type of wiring cause teeth to become crooked to the point of needing braces. Hope he is feeling better soon.

  13. Generally, sex offenders in Georgia cannot live or work within 1,000 feet of places children congregate, such as parks, schools, rec centers and swimming pools. What kind of store is nearby? Is there anything close enough to qualify for the above?

Agree with the other posters that your best defense is a good offense...explain clearly to your children what this man has been convicted of and that they must not have any contact with him for their own safety. A big "No Tresspassing" sign at the point near your driveway where people cross would be useful if and when you want to call the police to complain about those neighbors.

ETA: Search this site for the Georgia Code and definitions of "molestation", "sodomy", and "aggravated". http://www.lexis-nexis.com/hottopics/gacode/default.asp I'd copy and paste but it is copyright protected. Since the conviction was aggravated it is much more likely to have been serious.

Good luck to you. I know this may cause a lot of stress and worry for you.

  14. It didn't. It stayed locked in the garage according to the FC Sheriffs office. A mechanic came to fix it in the garage. No report on exact repairs made.

I haven't seen it reported anywhere that a mechanic came to the garage to fix it. Not that I don't believe you, I just haven't read that in any of the reports I've seen online.

  15. The driver who was arrested finally is likely going to do some serious time behind bars, as she should. I will reserve judgment on the repair shop until more facts are known. The car could have been taken out of town where news of this crime was unknown. Further, not everyone pays a lot of attention to the local news. I'll also reserve judgment on the mother and grandmother until we hear more about what they knew, when they knew it, and what their actions were during the time the driver was in hiding. I believe they knew something but I have to assume they are innocent until proven guilty. I'm curious to know how the car repairs were paid for and by whom. That will tell a lot. I doubt the insurance company was involved and suspect that cash was used. If so, where did that cash come from?

  16. Walking through Kohl's or Walmart passing the women's bras and underwear I have been known to reach out and grab a bra or panties on a hanger and turn around quickly and hold it up against my 15 year old son or my 11 year old son before they even realize what they are "modeling". They've learned to walk way behind me in those sections. They get me back with the toilet paper line in Wal-Mart. My husband and I will tease each other if we are walking past the adult diapers asking loudly, "Do you need more of these? Didn't you use the last one this morning?"
