  1. Since you asked, I'll share my reasons:

#1 I don't know where the Dallas New Era papers are sold.

#2 I'm not that interested in games of chance.

#3 I live in Cobb and while I shop a LOT in Paulding and use quite a few local businesses/services, I guess I'm not so interested in the "news" of Paulding county because it doesn't affect me much.

  2. I googled Ray McBerry because I liked what I heard on that video. I did NOT like what I found concerning allegations of misbehavior with female students several years ago. It's hard to know the truth based on internet stories so I'll have to do more research looking for sources I consider legitimate. I'm skeptical of allegations made against those running for office because it could be an attempt to derail his momentum. But, then again, it could be true.

  3. We got a new roof through State Farm in 2007 after a hail storm. We let the roofer work with the adjuster and they came to an agreement. I was told that there wasn't much roof damage from hail but there was wind damage from straight line winds which lifted up the shingles and caused them to be loose. It broke the seal and was no longer sound.

  4. I voted for closing on Sunday/Monday. I stopped by your store one time last year and it was closed and I haven't been back. As a small business owner you have to find a way to balance your private life with your professional life and I understand that. However, the way I shop, I want stores to be open when it's convenient for me and that could be pretty much any day of the week between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. If I have to go look up your website or make a phone call to find out your hours, I probably won't do it. It's not important that you be open on Sunday for me, though, because I am used to most smaller businesses being closed. It seems you have a loyal following because your product and services are great but I wonder if you are inhibiting your growth by limiting your hours. I'm not trying to be rude here, but trying to offer some constructive criticism from the point of view of a potential customer.

  5. We loved living in this house and the neighborhood. It was less than 5 mins to the kids elementary school and middle schools. We played at New Hope so it was about 7 mins away which was great for home work and dinner to be done before bedtime. The neighborhood was and is awesome. There are only 2 main roads in the s/d. No HOA. And the best neighbors ever! There is a regulation Four square court in the culdesac. :) You can look out on the front porch and see all the way down to the main stret for kids on bikes or watching them play. The back yard has a great large wooded area with a rock fire pit. The 'garden' side of the backyard has 3 above the ground garden plots. They were our 'salsa' gardens. We grew tomatoes in 2 of the plots and the other was peppers and herbs. The house has a oversized deck that wraps around to the front porch. There is a lower deck level for the 6 seater Sundance Hot tub with built in stereo/CD player and a waterfall. The master bedroom door leads out to the hot tub for late night soaks. There have been deer and turkeys on the property and you can hear the geese land at the lake when you are relaxing on the porch. I hope this house will soon make new memories with a new family who will love it as much as we do.

The link takes me to a generic sign in page, not to information on your property. Is that correct?

  6. Good luck to you.

  7. My son just rented a tux at Men's Warehouse in The Avenues on Dallas Hwy. For a standard black tux with tie, vest, cufflinks, shoes, and tax it was $102. We can pick it up several days early but it must be returned the next day.

  10. Congrats to all!! There is so much work involved in the marching program and you can be proud of every effort you've put into it. We are going to the Western Carolina University Tournament of Champions this Saturday with my son's school (Harrison in Cobb) and I am excited not only about their performance but of the many other bands attending.

Here's a portion of a great opinion piece from the Marietta Daily Journal that many of you will appreciate and understand:

"I advised him that beyond his good grades, the fact that he was a leader in his school's marching band could be a plus. With all else being equal, that would indicate to admissions officials that he is not only smart, but a leader as well."

"I wish you would tell that to our football team," he said, "They think we are a bunch of nerds." I am sure that isn't the attitude of all the players, but I am equally sure he didn't make that up and that he has heard that from some jocks."

  11. Your photos are very nice...super clear and full of action. When East Paulding plays Harrison I hope you'll take photos of the marching bands performances. I'd be very interested in buying photos of the band (Harrison for me) and I'm sure parents of the East Paulding band members would be interested in buying photos of their kids.

  12. Small Hijack

For all of you businesses out there... I can help with that!! :)

If you are having work done to your home, this is a must. You should ask for all three, particularly if it is a home improvement project. If they are bonded/insured, you are protected if someone is injured, if something is stolen from you, and if they damage any of your property. They are responsible anyway, but if they don't have these things in place, then they probably don't have assets to go after. The license at least means that they care enough to go through the hassle of applying. They sometimes mean that they are qualified, but some licenses are only administrative.

On top of this, and for any other work, referrals would be a must. I've been hosed by taking someone at their word, and it isn't pleasant. Actually check the reference.

To add to this particular post, I suggest to people hiring anyone to work on their home who states they are insured to request a "Certificate of Insurance" from that business. In my experience it is quite easy to get the agent to fax or mail a certificate to a homeowner to prove that the insurance is indeed in place.

Regarding the original post by Pubby, one suggestion is to have a good website. It can't be just fluff...I want to see real photos of whatever it is you offer and they should be an accurate reflection of the product or service. When I'm researching a particular company for any purchase I always Google them. Make sure you have a presence on the internet. On another front, coupons or discount codes are great to get people in the door. That's another thing I Google before any semi-big purchase: "discount coupon code for xyzbusiness". It may take going through 10-15 coupon sites but I often find something for a % off or free shipping.

  13. Isn't there a way, once you have a judgment in hand, to have the sheriff or other authority seize property to satisfy the judgment? In South Carolina, while working for the county government (more than a dozen years ago), I recall helping people identify personal property, such as vehicles or boats, of people against whom someone had a judgment. The Sheriff could seize/sell the property to satisfy the judgment/lien. I am not as familiar with the laws here in Georgia but I think there must be some similar procedure in place. Anyone know?

  14. The weather is starting to clear up here so maybe the park is still a good idea. You could search online for some homemade craft-type fun. Get some Elmer's Glue and Borax powder. Add a drop or two of food coloring to the glue. Mix equal parts water and borax then stir in an equal amount of glue. Stir it quickly with a stick then dump out onto a table as soon as it is thick (pretty fast). Do this on a table that you don't mind getting wet. It will turn into silly putty they can stretch and roll out. Leave some glue out to work into the mix and they'll get some great rubbery fun to play with. The silly putty will take up at least an hour of their time. Store it in a zip-lock bag.

  15. A lot depends on their maturity. During the day, if I'm not going far, 11 y.o. can stay home for an hour or two. 9 y.o. has stayed home for 1/2 hour. 15 year old can stay home all day but never overnight. In case that doesn't sound right...I wouldn't leave any of my kids without an adult overnight! I rarely leave the 15 year old home all day, though. I will not leave the 9 and 11 y.o. home alone together...too much potential for trouble! Sometimes the 15 y.o. will watch the 9 and 11. Most of the time they want to go with me no matter where I'm going. Well, not the teenager. I'm a stay-at-home mom so I'm home most of the time or running errands for and with the kids.

  16. Best wishes for your Dad's surgery. That twilight sleep is a good thing. I had carpal tunnel surgery two years ago and they did that to me. I have vague memories of the procedure but don't recall any pain.
