  1. That is correct and according to my info, scanners won't pick up any of the calls now.

They haven't moved completely to the new system yet.

They are actually running both systems simultaneously.

Radio transmissions have been reduced by a good bit because

of the MDT's in the Sheriff's vehicles.

They are silently dispatched to most calls.

Only priority 1 calls go out over the radio,

unless a deputy doesn't respond to the MDT dispatch.

It won't be too long before they are on the new system completely... and that will indeed prevent most scanners from picking up the transmissions.

  2. If the set you are looking at is the Bernz set... don't waste your money.

The size rod it gets hot enough to melt is hair thin...and you'll use 100 rods to braze a pin hole.

Second, you can't just "weld" cast iron.

The cast iron has to be already hot to take a weld.

You either have to heat it with a big oxy/acetylene torch or you have to heat it in an oven.

Cast iron is tricky to weld.

  3. I doubt we had a data base anywhere in the county that would show all the land suitable for industrial building, I can promise you these companies won't spend a month gathering this information, when thousands of counties have made it available for just this purpose.

Well, you'd be wrong on that. The county has a very extensive GIS database with just about any way of querying that database possible.

Paulding GIS has fly-overs done and compiles the data and it's added too and over-laid by all the departments, fire, sheriff, tax assessors, water, dot, etc.

They constantly supply GIS maps and data to prospective businesses and other entities.

The Paulding GIS dept is actually one of the best around and often are asked for their data.

  4. Nope, they cannot do that at all.

If the grant is received for a specific project like a downtown beatification project with a fountain and sidewalks, it can only be used for that project. It will NEVER go back into the city general fund, it will go back to the grant provider.

He didn't say that it would go back in to the general fund of the city.

He said it would go back to the general fund... IE: the fund from which it originally came.

  5. The big difference is most of those buildings that are built with extra space actually had the money to do it.... Not a smart use of money and not at all what was needed, it was what was wanted. Big difference. They could have built a much cheaper, less grand facility and saved a LOT of money and functioned just as well as what they have. But hey, at least we have the wow factor now, that's something isn't it....

You'll get no argument from me on being 'grand.'

Like I said, I'm not defending the previous or present administration or denouncing them...

But a larger facility was indeed needed at the time they were planned and built.

    They built for future expansion.

As for the "grandness" of the facility, we can agree.. it's a very nice facility, but there's a lot of wasteful money in being 'nice' as

to just being a plain facility that gets the job done and still leaves room for expansion.

  6. Get real, you don't even have to connect the buildings other than a little piece of concrete walkway.

Ummm.... YOU are the one who stated, "It seems that the smarter move would have been to build the main building with extra space and have enough land to build onto the existing building...

And why do they all have to be in one spot? I'll answer that, THEY DON'T. They worked perfectly fine in a few different buildings around town.

And the citizen's of the county bitched like crazy because they had to drive all over the county to get things accomplished.

And yes, build for future use, but not to the stupid level they did. Sorry but there is NO way you will convince me that that building size is even remotely needed or even if the economy kept booming that they would have needed it in the next ten years. NO WAY.

I don't care to convince you. But have you been throughout the building? Do you know specifically how many offices are dormant?

    I'm guess you haven't.

Maybe what you don't know is that there are other departments that are not in that building as of yet.

There are other departments in the county that will be moving in to that building, that just haven't done so yet.

Just because you see an office that is unused doesn't mean it doesn't have plans to be used.

  7. That building instantly had a LOT of unused space. It seems that the smarter move would have been to build the main building with extra space and have enough land to build onto the existing building or a new structure. It's not like Paulding Co was poised for some big explosion needing double the staff.... OR they could easily do like Cobb is doing and refurbish ugly arse shopping centers and re purposing them. Lot's of options were available rather than building it so big....

No, actually, it wouldn't have been a smarter move.

When you build something, like a building, it's almost always more cost effective to build it larger during initial build time

than to go back later and add too it.

When you go back and add too it, you have to tear off part of what you build (and paid for).

And almost always, time, labor, and materials are more expensive. The price of labor and materials rarely go down.

The old courthouse and annex building were so over-crowded, you couldn't turn around inside of it.

It lasted a long time. When you build a new facility that encompasses BOTH of those buildings and several other county departments

that were in separate buildings, you build it bigger... and you build for future expansion.

  8. Thank you for clearing that up, I always "include" the City of Dallas as part of the County and forget that they are a seperate entity.

As far as the Courthouse being half used..........the area to the right of the actual Courthouse (where you pay your tag) all of those offices that you walk by are empty. That is a big waste of space.

But you don't see all the offices that are not empty.

That is a HUGE building and it was built to accommodate future expansion.

It was built with offices being empty in mind. Would you rather it be built that way or build another multi-million

dollar building a few years down the road when it is over crowded?

You have to remember, there were a LOT of layoff's of county employee's for budget reasons,

    which left space being available.

Look at the bright side of that. If there were bureaucrats sitting in those offices, they'd be figuring out ways to make your life more difficult and spending more of your tax dollars.

  9. :good:

Here are my observations and this is NOTHING to do against Mr. Austin, I do not know him.

In the last few years this is what our county has:

    More Crime

    Fewer Jobs

    A sidewalk to nowhere

A pretty water fountain that is not needed

A New Courthouse that is not even halfway used

    Dirtier Streets

    NO New Businesses

I am not saying this is Mr.Austins fault, BUT since you state that YOU have made positive change in OUR County...please tell me what the change has been.

I will assume we are talking about the Commission Chairman and not the Mayor of Dallas, since you are referring to a positive change in our "county."

With that assumption... "The sidewalk to nowhere" is Dallas city limits, not county.

"The pretty water fountain that is not needed." Are you referring to the one heading away from the square on Main St.@ S. Main St?

If so, that is also Dallas city limits and not county. That whole area around the old courthouse was Dallas city renovation, not county.

"A New Courthouse that is not even halfway used."

Please explain this. Last time I checked, the courthouse was being completely used.

Not defending or promoting anyone... but two of those have nothing to do with the county commission and the courthouse

one seems to be an untrue statement, unless I am unaware of some major area of the courthouse that is just sitting idle.

  10. I don't think this is at all new. I remember thirty years ago sitting in the restaurant my Mom worked and a woman thought she had her car in reverse but it was in drive and she went right into the side of the building. You get more information faster now, but doesn't mean it hasn't been occuring more frequently now.... :good:

Speed of the news is one of the reasons you hear about it more, but it does happen more frequently as well.

There are a LOT more people in this area (Atlanta metro) than there were 30 years ago.

More people = more frequency of accidents.

I'm sure cell phones and other electronic devices have an large impact on the numbers as well,

as 30 year ago, we didn't have as many driver distractions and we do now.

  11. I normally don't buy in to the "As seen on TV" garbage that is sold...

BUT, I have to say, I bought one of these things a while back and it's GREAT!

It's really nothing special. It's a micro fiber cleaning cloth on a plastic wand.

However, it's the wand that makes the whole package worth-while.

It allows you to get at that awkward angle to follow the windshield all the way to the dashboard

without contorting yourself in to all kinds of crazy positions.

Yes, it works good with plain old tap water.

But, it works even better with a very light mist of window cleaner.

It takes about 1/5th as much window cleaner to do a great job as spraying and wiping with a regular cloth.

The arm not only allows you to get at those goofy angles, it gives you leverage to push against the windshield

    to get that scrubbing action.

I use it on all the windows, because the arm works on the windshield angle as well as a straight wiping angle.

One of the better "As seen on TV" products out there.

  12. They can't have it both ways. Separation of church and state should be carried all the way through.

Sunday is a day of the week just like Wednesday is. I would never ask a Baptist to buy a drink on Sunday. But that same Baptist shouldn't try to prohibit me from buying one based on HIS religious beliefs.

It's an antiquated law, and it needs to be gone.

You're right... BUT, there's no such thing as separation of church and state.

It was a concept written about. It's not in the Constitution.

What IS in the Constitution is that the government will not create a law respecting a specific religon or

prohibit someone from exercising their right to free worship.

I'd be willing to bet they were very careful in the way the law was worded to not tread on the first amendment.

It would probably never be official admitted that the reason was for religious beliefs, even though it was...

It's the same old government story of them trying to protect us from ourselves and forcing ones beliefs on others.

  13. Another argument presented today against the bill was that more kids would become alcoholics and dies in car accidents. Another even said that we have a moral obligation to keep Sunday sacred for God. I have never in my life heard so many passages from the bible quoted in a legislative hearing and have absolutely none of them address the topic at hand. Can someone point me in the direction of what bible verse says no booze on Sunday?

I think it's the one where Jesus sat down to supper with his 12 apostles and had WINE and bread...

    Oh wait...

  14. Who votes these yahoos into office anyhow? And the likes of Bobby Franklin?

I voted yes. I drink very rarely but if I want to buy on Sunday I should be able to.

How does buying on Sunday cause gays to get married or women to be beat?

Really? You actually have to ask that question?

It most certainly does cause these things!

It works on the same principle that my gun will just get up out of my closet,

load itself, and walk out on the street and murder someone!

Ya know, us law abiding citizens need to have EVERYTHING restricted and monitored for us.

It's the criminals that obtain things illegally that you don't have to worry about.    :pardon: :pardon:

  15. I wouldn't jump on the PCSO for not having a more obvious patrol routine nor will I believe someone was told they would be charged for patrols. That is total BS!!

Ya think maybe law enforcement IS checking out the area, JUST not in marked vehicles or attire????

Not to mention, just because someone doesn't see them patrol, doesn't mean they aren't.

Is everyone looking out their windows and doors ALL the time? I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say no.

Charging for patrols? I'm with you... BS!

  16. Thank you for your concern but because of my husband's MOS when he was a Marine, he had to go through more personal protective training and target training than Federal Law Enforcement Officers. His MOS wasn't all combat. He can totally handle a weapon in any situation that could come up in our home. As for me, I'm learning and trust him with all my heart to teach me well and protect our family as he has done so well for the past 16 years.

Just a note... ALL Marine MOS's are combat. :)

A Marine is a rifleman, first and foremost, over any other job they have. :pardon:

But that's good that he is 'urban combat' trained.

As an NRA instructor, I've seen a LOT of military people who think they know how to protect their home.

And while some do, many have never thought of some of the scenarios that I've taught them or brought to their attention,

because, I as said previous, war combat and home protection are two completely different things.

Just practice with your gun... when it all comes down to the time, it has to be instinct.

I love to see ladies standing up and ready to protect themselves from thugs!

Nothing makes me happier to read in the NRA magazines an article called "the armed citizen."

Every month, there are about 10 short stories about ladies and senior citizen's stopping an attacker/home invader

using their firearms. I love to hear the stories when the good honest citizens win and the thugs end up taking a dirt nap!

Good luck, shoot straight, and keep it in the 10 ring!! :drinks: Semper Fi

  17. You've got that right! My hubby's a former Marine and based on his shots at the range today, he hasn't lost his touch one little bit. He's thinking of putting his target from today at the edge of our driveway with a sign that says "I wouldn't if I were you!"

Piece of advice for you and not one single intent of disrespect to your husband.

I know Marine's are trained to kill and they are trained to do so very well.

However, being a Marine and even being in combat is COMPLETELY different than being in

your house and having someone come in on you.

The Marine's don't train for home invasion and home defense.

While I have no doubt that he is capable to helping you get accustomed to a gun and shooting straight,

there is so much more to it than that... When a Marine goes in to combat or has to fight someone,

he knows what he's going in to and is already ramped up and ready to kill.

A home invasion doesn't afford you that opportunity.

There are things that you likely have never thought of that occur and are correct to do

    in a home invasion/robbery situation.

Please, take a suggestion and go take an NRA home and home defense course with a

certified NRA instructor. It can show you protect yourself and your property

in a manner that is safe for both you and your family.

  18. Here's something I find funny...

Some of you are willing to vote on what Clark Howard has told you about the proposed amendment.

Now, along comes Pubby with a post and now you've changed how you are planning on voting.

No disrespect to Pubby or Clark Howard, but really, why don't you people decide for yourself

how you're going to vote and stop relying on other people to interpret the amendment for you?

READ the amendment. Read it thoroughly. Read it again.

Voting is a seriously responsibility and too many people vote on what someone else tells them

to believe or what someone else thinks the poll question is asking.

Go to the website. Download the PDF with of the amendments and READ them.

They are not simply questions, like you see on the ballot.

They are full explanations of what the amendment is about and what it encompasses.

Stop listening to what OTHER people are telling you... do the research yourself and decide for yourself

how you are going to vote.
