  1. Where is my old Republican Party and what happened to the idea of a smaller, less intrusive government. You guys are sucking that government teat harder than a welfare broodmare. Absolutely sickening.

    You can say that again.

    It's getting sad.

Spend more and tax less... sounds a lot like the democrats in congress...

  2. This thread deserves some much needed clarification.

Chad does, in fact, have experience practicing criminal law and has done so since at least 2000. Like me, in addition to criminal law, he also practices civil litigation and handles corporate matters for clients. In fact, he practiced criminal law out of my law office back then, and we worked on cases together. He is very competent and quite intelligent, having also served on law review at his law school (which is highly selective of certain law students). He has also served as a Magistrate Court Judge for many years, which involves both civil and criminal matters. In fact, he has been a judge on criminal matters in which I represented the defendant. Since he is a Magistrate Court Judge, he is limited in practicing criminal law in Paulding Superior Court.

I hope that may be helpful to some.

    Thanks for that info.

  3. That is a fantastic idea. There are times when the slow cooker insert sits overnight because it has to soak.

We love to make sausage cheese dip in the slow cooker for parties, but it was a terrible mess, esp if you left it on during the party as the cheese dip level would drop. :o

But now it's just pull the bag out and toss it, rinse the cooker and put it away. (as long as no one rips the bag)

My worry was the plastic adding flavor, but haven't tasted a thing.

  4. Fiesta Meatballs

Submitted by Rosemary (MN) HQ Resident Chef

    Directions

Combine first 5 ingredients in a greased slow cooker.

Sounds good. However, I wonder how many of you use the "slow cooker" liners that came out a couple of years ago. We love them, clean up is Soooooo much easier. Especially for something with cheese in it like this recipe.

  5. Tony Crowe? Money machines?

Guess we'll see when the campaign disclosures come out.

The one thing I know for sure is that I will NOT be voting for anyone that has not released their disclosure no matter how much I like them.

  6. I've heard from several sources that Tony Crowe is eating away at David Barnett's OLD PAULDING and BURNT HICKORY base. I took a quick drive up Hwy 61 this past weekend and was amazed at how many large TONY CROWE signs were up. Rumor is that its got so bad for the Barnett campaign that they've actually started confronting Crowe supporters. With Crowe taking OLD PAULDING and Jason Anavitarte taking NEW PAULDING, it's starting to look like Barnett may be the odd man out. :o :o :o

LOL, rumors and opinions, that's all you have?

Well, if we're going to talk rumors, I can make some up too:

I wonder how many of those "large TONY CROWE" signs were paid for with money from the same developers and "Boss Hog" types that gave us the Jerry Disaster Years? Guess we'll have to take a look at the finance reports when they are filed.

Will Mr Crowe be filing his funding report on time? Will Mr. Anavitarte? This should be interesting to see.

All having a lot of signs out means is that the money machines are behind that candidate, doesn't have anything to do with how good they are.

Dang, you are about to convince me to vote for Barnett figuring that I don't want to have anything to do with any candidate that our GOP leadership would support so openly in a GOP Primary. :o

  7. I'm undecided on this one also.

I see Donovan's years on the police side of law enforcement as a positive. I suspect he knows what it's like to arrest someone and then wait and wait for justice to be done. I would think that this might give him a 'hunger' to get the cases tried that the others might not have. I am leaning toward him at this time, but not totally committed.

I have to say that I don't know a lot about Drew's activities, however, I will say that wins/losses in prosecuting a case are not all based on the actions of the DA's office. My wife was on a jury case in Paulding several years ago and mishandled evidence and bad investigation (local and GBI) almost got the guy off. However, that is not an excuse for stretching the case out, I have to say they should either drop the charges or get on with the trial. Rumors of empty courtrooms for a lot of the week bother me.

Plumley is the wildcard I think in this race. I have to go back and look at the video of his speech at the PBA meet and greet. I don't remember being impressed, but I might have missed something.

  8. You guys can thank Hogan Construction Group for that. I cannot believe the amount of work this company is doing in Paulding county, they don't even operate near here and they have a lonnnnnngggggg history of not paying their sub-contractors. Kinda like the Facilities Group was. ;)

Their office is in Norcross, so we don't have any local Contractors that can handle government projects that actually send jobs out for sub bids???

I talked with one contractor and he told me the BS and paperwork as well as the biased bids in Paulding are such a pain in the rear he doesn't even both trying for Paulding county government work any more.

  9. Just what we need. A whole board full of bobble-heads.

Aw, another one liner GOPR!! You are just full of them aren't You!!   And a cute little YOUTUBE video too!! Brings back warm memories of COWA. He had a thing about YOUTUBE also.

    Anyway...

You think five screaming guys in a council meeting would be better? Check out some of the Atlanta area BOEs for examples of that, they are losing accreditation's all over.

I don't expect bobble heads, I expect five people to listen to each other, work together towards valid solutions. Five guys yelling "My way or the Highway" gets us nowhere.

But I don't expect you to understand that.

  10. No idea what any of that means. This year's budget is 2.3mil less than last year. Jason wants it to be 2.8mil. Rumor is that he's received dozens of email responses in support of his press release. We'll see what the taxpayers think come election day. Right now, it doesn't even seem like the SPLOST is a sure thing.

    Sure you don't.

Hey DOT, can you PM me what you found?

  11. Why don't you just make it easy for all the pedophiles. Post a google map link to my house, then another one to my work, then tell everyone how many children I have at home. Jackass.

Nice way to ignore the question. Classy response. YOU put your name out, not DOT. I don't see that DOT has posted anything personal about you that you haven't posted before. Didn't even use your last name. Anyone can look up land in the database, I looked up Jerry's place a few years ago.

I will say that if you do have a lot of land under a land covenant, it explains your fixation on the tax rate a lot. Since land under a covenant is locked at it's original value, it doesn't go up when everyone else get reassessed up and the tax rate is reduced like during Jerry's term. The owner saves $$$$ on taxes while the little homeowners take it in the jaw.

However, when values are going down, that land also stays fixed, so if the tax rate stays the same, no tax break for poor covenant owner. :( In fact, if the BOC raises the rate to try to hold the taxes the same, the covenant owner pays MORE while those assessed down pay roughly the same. :( :(

    That would explain a lot.

  12. GOP Rules! aka: Tmilanese or Reagan Republican:

I have to admit you never struck me as being much of a marketer/sales type, so I'm not surprised you don't understand why Todd's 'we are in this together so lets pull together' attitude is critically important to the economic recovery of the county.

But I guess some folks (Todd) have vision and others don't.

    pubby

Second the "excellent observation pubby" that Angel Eyes gave ya. :) Jason's Press Release in the other thread is an example of the same thing.

If Jason was really interested in pulling together with us and the BOC, he could have said the same thing in that release in a completely different way to indicate his willingness to work with the existing BOC if elected to achieve the goal of reducing the tax rate. Instead, he flaunts a "Do what I say" attitude and a challenge to the group that he will have to work with.

Not a good indication of teamwork.

  13. You do know that one reason that PC built the airport was to prevent Atlanta from using their land in PC for a second airport.

Maybe, but I bet if the 200 lb Gorilla of ATL decided they wanted another airport out here, the fact there is a small Paulding one would not even slow it down much.

If you fly into ATL from the East, look to South and you will see a couple of runways with the big X on the end of the closed runway because they were too close to airspace ATL needed.

  14. So the question becomes, why do you oppose the return to 6.5 mils

that is being proposed by post #4 candidate Jason Anavitarte ????

Because David gave a tax cut he didn't have to. But what do we get from Jason? Backseat driving with him complaining that it wasn't big enough? How about looking to the future Jason?

But, if Jason is going to go into the past to complain about things, how about him asking why Jerry and the Paulding GOP that controlled the commission didn't give us this 9 million dollar a year tax cut YEARS ago if the expenses were not needed? Wait, that's right, GOPR and you seem to think there is ANOTHER half million of waste in the current budget, why didn't JERRY fix that too? Where is Jason's condemnation of Jerry effectively raising the general fund by 2 mils by leaving the rate the same and dumping the fire department into the General fund? How could Jerry have been over taxing us for OVER 10 YEARS at nearly 9 million a year ( 90+ MILLION DOLLARS ) if the Republican Party in Paulding is so "PRO TAX CUT"

The answer is that the Paulding GOP is obviously NOT been conservative in the last 10 years under Jerry's rule and the developers that controlled it.

But now, when David saw that the tax base was going to drop such a drastic amount both last year and this year, he would have been totally within his right to raise the millage rate to make the property value change totally revenue neutral. It was not, and would not have been a "tax increase" any more than the rate reductions that Jerry and Crew always crowed about were actual "tax cuts". He could have then left the budgets alone and not had to force all the departments to cut so much and made his life much easier. (Other than the complainers that don't understand how the tax system works)

However, instead of raising the rate some 3 mils or so, he dropped the general fund budget that year around six million dollars. If David felt that he had to recover the little bit of funding that .15 mil represents (and it represents 17% less this year than last year) then I figure he must have seen a real need. I'm sure that David thought long and hard about that slight rise in the rates and would not have done it if the county didn't *need* it.

To me Conservatism is more than blind thinking. It is the balance of the needs of the community against the drain of taxing that community. It is *leading* the community rather than blind cutting that does more harm than good.

I don't want anyone in office that will put party lines and slogans (or worse yet, developers) above the good of the community. I want true conservatives. I don't know who I'm going to vote for in Post 4. Jason looked pretty good up to this point, but now I have to wonder about him and his dedication to the people of this county. His condemnation of the the ONLY BOC to give us a real tax break in 10 years while holding his silence on the BOC that OVERCHARGED us almost 100 million in taxes says wonders about his true feelings.

I want someone that will work WITH David to do the best for this county, not back-stab for his on political gain.

  15. Just what Paulding needs, a bunch of Obama voters picking our county commissioners. :nea:

Wow, I didn't know that their influence was so great that they could PICK our county commissioners!!

If Surepip's influence was that great, I'd be willing to bet his case would have gone to court long ago!

However, fact is that there are no Democratic challengers in many of the races, so this is the only vote that counts. Why should they not have just as much right to campaign for their selected candidate as anyone does?

  16. Actually they only cut 2.3 mil out of the 2011 proposed budget. 2mil of that came from capital projects in the M&O last year. Why we needed that when we have 12 million in SPLOST coming in each year, I don't know. Anyhow, they've really only cut 300k in the 2011 compared to 2010. Shouldn't be hard to find the additional $500k that Jason has called for. Gotta run, I think that's Tony Crowe calling me.

Looking at the two budgets, he cut 2.3 million from the general fund. He cut around 13 million from the entire budget from what I see.

Not sure I see the 2 million in capital in the general fund categories, can you give me category you are looking at? Thanks.

The SPLOST, by law, can only be used for Sheriff, E911, Fire, DOT and Parks and Rec since that is what the ballot listed when voted on. The Watson complex (aka Jerry's Palace) is not included in that, nor any capital costs associated with the county buildings downtown, vehicles not included in those dept, etc.
