  1. Yum, here'show I make it.

I like the packaged slaw mix over by the bagged salad in the produce dept. but.....

1/2 head cabbage, shredded in food processor or cut real small

    one small carrot also shredded

Mayo. (not miracle whip, yuck) about a cup

    a Tablespoon of vinegar

    celery salt

    garlic salt

    black pepper

    teaspoon of sugar

Mix it all up and add milk if to thick. Garnish with diced tomatoes or grape tomatoes.

You can place the bowl into another bowl of crushed ice to set on the table. Keeps it nice and cold.

  2. Yep, it's stealing in my book. Grapes are sold by the pound, generally. If you are eating them in the store then they can not be weighed correctly and thus you are under charged for your purchase. What if EVERYBODY ate the grapes and didn't pay for them???? Besides it's absolutely gross to eat unwashed produce let alone feed it to a child.

  3. My husband just called to tell me he heard on the news that Ledford's defense attorney said in his closing arguments that the only reason Ledford struck her was because she bit his privates--i.e., it was all HER fault.

    What a JERK!

Oh so he was only going to rape her. She did us all a favorite when she bite him and probably protected others from his wrath. She is a hero in my book.

  4. I just got back from their web site and it doesn't look like much going on except the farmers market Sat. morning from 9-12. I love antique shopping and people watching. Got people I know who work near by we like to visit. wub: and they give us discounts on the best dang pizza in the area not to mention wings and salad. (No beer discount :( :( ) There is a tour going on. I think it runs twice a day but for $15.00 a person, I just ask strangers and store owners to tell me what they know. Most are MORE than happy to talk.

  5. I think the running price for items is 20% of the original price. Thus if you spent $10.00 on a VHS tape, only expect to get $2.00 or less for the item. Keep in mind the quality of the item. High quality like brand new still in package, expect the 20%.

  6. I was thinking, with the pool available, how about a Hawiian theme? You could get a load of sand and do sand castles, buried treasure in the sand (small prizes or coins), pearl diving (marbles in the pool), Hula Dances, Lei making (with string and cupcake wrappers).

  7. For those of you brave enough to get close enough to a snake, here are the rules for poisonous or not:

    1. Their heads are diamond/triangle shaped

    2. Their pupils are like a cats: slit not round (only exception to that is the coral snake, it has round pupils and is poisonous)

The markings are hard to distinquish between all the species, but their eyes and heads will let you know real quick if you should run and get a gun or just let it slither (eeewwwww!) away.

I'm not doubting this to be true, but I can't imagine getting that close to a snake to check, at least not a live one.

  8. Our sub went through this about 4 years ago. It was rough.

The hard part was actually getting control of the HOA from the developer. We sought out the advice of a professional HOA management company. They actually came in, helped us form a board of directors, got the right legal paperwork together and we were able to FINALLY get control.

In the mean time the homeowners themselves, opened the pool (we had some people with experience) and maintained the landscaping as the developer wasn't doing any of this. I would NOT recommend that you open the pool. It is dangerous and you and the other homeowners could be found liable if something goes wrong. (a drowning, a water born illiness, ect..)

If I remember correctly, the management company was kept for a couple years and then the board of directors took complete control. It takes a good team of very dedicated people to make this happen. Good luck. We were told that legally we HAD to form a proper HOA after a certain number of homes were occupied.. It's in the by-laws.

In the mean time, get the name of the builder's management company and have them have a formal meeting with the homeowners. (if the builder actually has a company managing your subdivision) All homeowners will have to be notified by mail of this meeting. (some kinda lawyer thing)

You can work from there on how to handle your unique situation. Sounds to me like the builder has stashed away the funds from the previously collected dues and your HOA needs written information on where it was spent. You may be owed a nice sum in which you can use to get the ball rolling.
