A big "Thank You" to everyone who met with us tonight to discuss The Dallas To Dallas Ride For Wet Noses coming up in April - less than 3 months away!

It was very exciting to discuss D2D with our Meltid, representing Paulding Humane Society and Animal Shelter, Leah Robinson of Critter magazine, who has been very instrumental in covering the Ride and its details, Mark and Martin of Paulding Networking, who will be responsible for the "D2D Presence" on the internet and the GPS tracking of yours truly, and my friend QUAZAR who will be my strong "right-hand" helping with problem-solving.

I am very proud to have these folks on the "D2D Team", and it will be them who will ensure the success of our project!

Stay tuned to this Blog and Paulding.com for further updates and exciting news on D2D as we get closer to our event

    Thanks

Our ride to benefit PHS and shelters in a 5 state area between here and Dallas, TX is finally "officially" out in the open, news releases have been sent to county websites and print media and the website is getting steadily "hit" with inquiries. I am continuing my training for next April when I hope to get in at least 100 miles a day on my bicycle heading back this way from Texas for the animals and for "Spay Neuter and Adopt".

    It can now be told!

For the past several months, Bill has been planning a new "publicity stunt" to call attention to the Ride for Wet Noses next April, and on Tuesday November the 20th, we pulled it off successfully: A climb up the Paulding Humane Society Billboard and pictures made up there with Bill and His Trek 1000 bike!

    The perpetrators of the "crime"

Bill Craig: avid cyclist, animal welfare advocate and local nutcase

Michelle McKee: Photographer and Bill's web-designer

Andy Durden: of A Premier Painting and Home Repair who provided the ladder and moral support. (I believe that's called "aiding and abetting")

    Witenesses to the "crime":

"Pubby": Proprietor of Paulding.com, a local community news and bulletin board web-site

"Satellite": Assistant to Pubby and interested observer.

The Details: At a little after 2 pm on Tuesday afternoon November the 20th, on Business highway 6 near Dallas Tire, two men were seen approaching the Paulding Humane Society billboard at that location.

One of the two was seen carrying a ladder and the other was rolling a bicycle.

Said ladder was leaned against the billboard and the first of the 2 men climbed up to the ledge to test its strength. When the ledge was deemed to be safe (in certain areas) the bike was handed up and leaned against the canvas of the billboard and person 2 (the principal perp) ascended and postitioned himself with the bicycle. (A bit nervous, due to the possible illegality of the act itself)

Photographs were then taken as evidence, and a video and interview were then filmed to be shown at a later date on Paulding.Com.

The parties then left the scene of the crime with the authorities none the wiser, or perhaps they knew of the good intentions and decided to turn a "blind eye" to the "heinous act".

My sincere thanks to everyone who helped make this possible, especially to Andy, whom I had only met in the parking lot of a local grocery store and who gave his assistance right away to our cause.

It was a lot of fun y'all, but I am very happy to be back on solid ground!

For John Wayne fans, this may be interesting: While filming The Green Berets, Duke was given a special "Montagnard" (pronounced 'Mountain-yard') bracelet by the "A-Team" which served as advisors for the film. He told their captain that from that day forward he would never take it off, and you can see that bracelet worn on his wrist in every film since "Berets". The story of that bracelet and another is here: http://www.jwplace.com/bracelet.html

I own and wear one of those bracelets, and it is one of the last made by a Montagnard silversmith.

The Montagnard people helped train our soldiers in jungle warfare, and the US government promised to re-settle them in our country, a promise we re-neged on after that war ended. Subsequent sales of that bracelet went to financially support that promise, and you may read about it here: http://www.montagnards.org/.

Land for the re-settlement of the Montagnards has been purchased, and those same Strike Force people who are now retired are still hard at work supporting the Montagnard tribe, as they supported our troops during the Viet Nam years.

Much has been written about John Wayne, but whether pro or con "hawk" or "dove", one cannot deny he supported the American soldier with all his heart, even though he himself never served.

One can hear this great American on a cd called America, Why I Love Her, and if you listen to it, then you know how patriotic he was.

Edited to add: Much of the poetry/prose on that cd was written by Jim Mitchum, brother of the late Robert.

Thinking, always thinking. Even though I don't post that often here anymore, this will be a place to find stuff that occurs to me whenever I am thinking about something. Which is damn near all the time.

My latest thoughts are about Maricopa County Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio, and how I wish John Wayne were still alive so that he could portray him in a movie.
