+d5nelson
I just found this article with some great a/c tips. Thought I would share. http://www.baumbach....bing/ACTips.htm and in case you missed it, we are running a $59 a/c tune up special. Includes up to 1/2 pound of freon. Our tune up will check most of the things mentioned in this article. It includes the filter, clean the outside coil, check freon levels and adjust accordingly, check and make sure no condensation problems, check drainage, check thermostat..... If you're interested call us today and we'll be happy to get you scheduled for your a/c tune up.
Guard dad
Most of the article is pretty good. A couple of the tips are not technically correct. I have a problem with this one; (2) Flip the switch on the thermostat for the fan setting to FAN ON, not AUTO. This will run the indoor fan nonstop. The outside A/C unit will still cycle with a call for cooling from the thermostat. The constant air moving will keep you cooler. You can probably keep the thermostat a degree or two higher than normal and still feel comfortable. You will also maintain a more even temperature between upstairs and downstairs. This will SAVE you MONEY because the outdoor condenser will not come on as much! This can actually raise humidity inside the house, which is exactly what you don't want to do. Running the blower on continuous will re-evaporate all the condensation on the evaporator coil and in the drain pan after the unit cuts off, and put it back into the home. That adds both humidity and latent heat to the living space which the A/C will have to remove a second time once it kicks back on. However...In the kind of heat we're experiencing right now, it's mostly a moot point because most people's A/C units run almost all the time (which is normal). But in less extreme heat, the blower should be set to auto. If you need additional air circulation or filtration, it's best to handle that separately of the HVAC unit. Absolutely right on about keeping filters cleaned and having the unit serviced at least once per year. People would save themselves a lot of money and headaches if they'd do this.
