Bobby C. Hanson, "Ludlow Porch"

Bobby C. Hanson, better known as "Ludlow Porch", 76, of Dawsonville passed away peacefully Friday February 11, 2011.

Born October 11, 1934 in Atlanta to the late Philip and Betty Hanson, he moved to Dawson County from Roswell in 1994. In 1971, Sports Illustrated magazine was looking for trivia experts. The magazine dispatched a writer to visit Ludlow and he came away convinced that Ludlow's head was full of worthless information, and wrote about it. The article got the attention of WSB radio and he was ask to come on the air. Officials at WRNG "Ring Radio" invited Ludlow to visit for a week. Ludlow stated, "I came for a week and never left." Ludlow has been a radio talkshow host for over 30 years having spent a decade as a "Ringmaster" at WRNG, over a decade at WSB where he helped transform their format into a talkradio giant, and beginning in 1994 on the Funseekers Radio Network which still broadcasts daily. Ludlow's listeners developed over the years into a legion of "Whackos" who became an integral element in the two-way conversational approach which Ludlow mastered. He always ended his show with his saying, "Whatever else you do today, you find somebody to be nice to." Ludlow lived to make people laugh, mostly at themselves, and authored books including "Fat White Guys Cookbook" and "Who Cares About Apathy". He was a veteran of the U. S. Marine Corps where he served during the Korean Conflict and was also preceded in death by a daughter, Leigh Ann Hanson.

Surviving are his wife, Nancy Hanson, Dawsonville; children, Barbara Davison, Asheville, NC, Philip Hanson, Marietta, Charles McGarvey, Washington, DC, Kyle Harvey, Alpharetta; grandchildren, Liz and Will Lewis, Michael and Jennifer Franklin, Kathryn Hanson, Helen Hanson; and great grandchildren, Hayley Franklin, Nathan Franklin.

Memorial services will be held Saturday February 19, 2011 at 2 o'clock at Big Canoe Chapel. Rev. Dr. Jimmy R. Allen will officiate. A reception will follow in the Broyles Community Center.

What a shame. I loved his folksy humor. I miss him, Lewis Grizzard, and Leroy Powell. RIP

His talk show was the first one that I ever listened to religiously. He had a big heart and will be missed.
