Joe B. Camp, age 84, of Dallas, GA, died on Saturday, May 10, 2008, of complications from Type II Diabetes. He was born in Paulding County, on April 20, 1924, to the late Josiah Belia Camp & the late Etna Sorrels Camp. Mr. Camp grew up in Braswell and attended Dallas High School. He was a veteran of World War II and fought with the U.S. Army’s Company “C” of the 672nd Amphibian Tractor Battalion. In 1950, his Battalion was awarded a citation for bravery by the government of the Philippines for helping the 11th Airborne with the rescue of Los Banos prison camp in February 23, 1943, the same day the U.S. flag was raised in Iwo Jima. He worked for Lockheed from 1951 until he retired in 1987.

Survivors include his daughter, Carol Camp Miller of Atlanta; sister, Louise Camp Hulsey of Douglasville; grandchildren, Dori Miller of Atlanta, Lauren Miller of Atlanta and Margaret Miller of Breckenridge, CO, and great-grandson Zachary Miller of Atlanta.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 16, 3:00p.m. at Clark Funeral Home in Hiram, GA.
