Beyond stating hisplans, Donovan said he would make no comment on the shootingon Township Drive. Bohanan,who was sought on two warrants for probationviolation, is dead after he barricaded himself and anotherperson in the basement of a Paulding home at 288 TownshipDrive in Hiram. Bohanan was shot once by a deputy whomauthorities say has been an officer at Paulding for over twoyears with ten years overall experience in police work. Deputies were at the residence seeking Lelia Sierra Duncan(W/F, 27 YOA) who was wantedfor probation violations associated withmethamphetamine and obstruction (M)) and had been reportedto be staying at the residence within the last severaldays. It was when authorities were at the residencethey discovered that Bohanan, also wanted for probationviolations, was there. Duncan was not located at theresidence and is still at large. Deputies, who had arrived at 3:22 pm on Oct. 5, ultimatelymade entry to the basement room where Bohanon had lockedhimself after use of battering rams at about 4:34 pm. Authorities on the warrants division said they were aware ofthe room from more than 100 visits to the residence in thepast 13 years. After breaching the door in addition to Bohanan deputiesdiscovered Emelia Alys Blehm (W/F, 36 YOA) in the darkbasement room. Deputies gave commands for the pair to showtheir hands and to get on the ground. Blehm immediatelycomplied with Deputies commands and Bohanan, according tothe release offered by the PCSO, came toward Deputies in anaggressive manner and would not show them his hands. It was then that Deputy David Martin, of the Sheriff’sOffice Warrants Division, fired one round striking Bohananand fatally wounded him. Deputies immediately rendered aid to Bohanan, but they wereunable to save him. Deputies arrested Ms. Blehm for misdemeanor obstruction.Jacob Lee James Barkwell (W/M, 32 YOA), who was also at theresidence during the incident, was arrested on unrelatedcharges. Bohanan’s body was turned over to the Paulding CountyCoroner who took him to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation(GBI) Crime Lab in Atlanta for an autopsy. The GBI has been called in to do a complete investigation ofthe incident and, as stated above, the Paulding DA ispromising to convene a special grand jury to hear the case.Deputy Martin is on paid administrative leave until thiscase is resolved.
