Well, GPH...that was indeed a nice Christmas message. And, here's one from me to you and your family.
Merry Christmas, Pat....and Nancy...and Helen and Austin. And, have a great New Year.
And, to all your readers, I give a blessed thanks that Pubby's "CAR INVENTION" never made it into production. Readers: This invention, circa about 1960, employed a drastic frame change from what has been an evolving standard since the Model "T". Instead of a rigid, retangular frame, Pubby's frame was based upon a "Giant Spring" concept. Visualize a football with moderately snubbed noses and with bended leaf-springs covering the top, bottom and sides of the vehicle. Cutouts, of course for the windshield, back window, side windows and doors; trunk and hood.
The philosophy was based upon saving lives on our highways. A noble concept for an 11-year old. However, in keeping with Pubby's liberal up-bringing....he failed to take into consideration the law of "unintended consequences". Even then, 1960, evolving as a Constitutional Conservative, I was quick to point out one flaw in the "spring" design.
What happens when two "Spring Cars" collide head on? Or a "spring car" is rear-ended. In heavy traffic?
"For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction", said a sage.
The springs absorb the impact....the occupants safe. Then the springs must release the energy they've stored and vowallah....a chain reaction of "springing cars" errupts. Visualize I-95 at rush hour. Cars bouncing everywhere. Into the lanes across the median. Some vaulting to overpasses where the whole reaction thing begins anew. A magnifican exhibition of what Bumper Cars should be all about.
Just another story from the case files of a liberal youth....unacustomed to unintended consequences.
Merry Christmas to all...
