  1. The 'Tiffany' Network threw their top guy to the wolves.

Dan goofed on that memo story and his opponents used it to force him out. CBS wimps out at the behest of the AFA, GOP and NRA all the time now, as evidenced by their pulling of the Reagan docu-drama (well before RR's death) after a letter writing campaign.

Keep an eye on how many journalists are suddenly under fire now- and note how special interest groups under the guise of family proponents are beginning to call the shots at the networks: take for instance the refusal of a number of stations (like WSB 2) to carry the showing of Private Ryan on Nov. 11. Too violent for home viewing? More likely- too uncomfortable because it reminds people what war is like at a time when we're involved in a costly one. I have a hard time imagining that Mel Gibson's recent hit will be refused on the grounds of violence and depictions of torture, and it shouldn't - but neither should 'Ryan.' Politics.

The constitution and bill of rights are under fire, my friends. Beware, no matter what your view is- left or right. Protect Amendment One with as much gusto as Two and we'll all be better for it.

  2. UPDATE:

There were so many of you who I have sent the info about the survey sites that I can't e mail all of you individually with updates, but I thought you'd like to know some details to help boost your proceeds.

If you registered with harris interactive, be sure to sign up for their automotive panel. They may invite you to do this or there may be a link on your profile page. I did this and they are going to pay me $100 for looking at new cars at a private show at the World Congress Center next week. Wow. I did this once a few years ago up north and they paid only $75 so this is a sweet deal.

November was a great month for surveys..I probably completed 30 or so and there were $30, $40 and lots of $5 ones.

If you don't seem to be getting invitations be sure that your e-mail spam filters aren't blocking the survey senders. Also remember that the more you complete, the more they will send, in general.

Finally, again, never pay anyone to sign up for surveys and never give anyone your credit card info. Sites that ask for that aren't legit.

Good luck everybody, and let me know how you are doing on these- I like to see my Pcom friends succeed ;)

  3. i would cmopletly LOVE a drive in!!1

during bandcamp, we were all talkin bout drivin up to alabama to go to one!!(got cancelled due to rain..)

gosh somebody PLEASE build one if possible(lol)!.(but then it'd probably get overcrowded w/ smokers and drinkers, etc., then a pcom post would be made about it...{)

Interestingly, the Drive In movie concept is having a rebirth. A new one is going up in Forsyth county. For the adventurous, try the Starlight Six thats still open after 50 years, on Moreland Ave. in Atlanta. We go 2 or 3x a summer. Lots of fun

You get two first run movies for $6 and you can bring all your own food and soda!

    Here's their website:

    STARLIGHT SIX DRIVE IN

  4. If anyone knocks on my door looking for candy on the 30th, I'll give 'em directions to the QT.

:D :D that puts it all in perspective...too funny!

Oct 31 is my birthday so I always resented kids getting candy on my special day and snatching attention away anyhow. By the way up in the relatively 'Godless' 'heathen-filled 'north, they held trick or treat on Saturday if the 31st was a Sunday, too.

  5. For those of you who are interested, there is an article on ajc.com about the increasing development of what were CW battlefields:

    http://www.ajc.com/news/content/metro/1004/18civilwar.html

Be aware that you will be asked to log on to the ajc.com site (I know some people don't care for that ...)

Wouldn't this issue be a good one for the folks who care about preserving Georgia's Confederate history to pursue as much or more than the 'flagger' protests? I'd like to see as much of a fuss made about preserving the ground where the soldiers fought and died than something more symbolic. (This isn't taking a position on the flag, it's just a suggestion that there are other more direct ways to revere those who fought).

  6. I am not one of those folks who can't find any good in "w". I think deep down he is a nice guy, so I commend him for this act of kindness, but that's a separate issue from his performance and decisions in my view.

Of course, acts of kindness are manipulated as much as bad deeds by one side or another.. but all that matters in this story is the good that seems to have come out of it for the soldier. So in this case, good going, W.

  7. In the allegations against Perdue and the governor's office, the commission — which is dominated by Perdue appointees — found evidence that the governor might have violated the state's ethics rules when he:

    Interesting...Republicans finding evidence on a Republican...Hummm

     :o

This isn't why i see those Sonny Lied stickers is it?

  8. So, Lear, pray tell, how is this topic Bush's fault?

Just thought I would go ahead & ask the question as you'll be going in that direction anyway.   :)

Pardon my interjection, I know you were asking Lear (did he mention Bush in that?) but I will add my 2 cents..

Maybe not George, but I would say whoever has ultimate responsibility for the national health policy would bear some blame. Why, if drugs from foreign countries are too risky to allow seniors to buy them, are we getting our most important vaccines from outside the U.S.? After the major screw-up last year with flu shots there was a promise it wouldn't be repeated. True, it wasn't. this is far worse!

Heads need to roll at HHS or the CDC.

Having worked with many senior groups in the past, too, I can tell you to expect some major outrage from elderly when they find out there are no shots..

  9. Dang. I was hoping the LOWE'S rumor was gonna come true. We need one or Best Buy. Badly.

And I bet the Hiram Kroger closes when the new one opens down the road. Somebody better figure out what to do with all these empty stores on 278 (plus that nasty overgrown gas station at 92 & 278) or Hiram will start to look slummy.

  10. Of course, I was dismayed at his positon on fetal stem cell research. I do not know why he believed that his life was more important than that of an unborn child. I guess stardom does that to some people. But, that's a question I'm sure by now he's already answered to his maker. :(

He probably valued potentially saving or healing walking, talking, family-supporting (and yes even church-going) organisms with fully functioning nervous systems over clumps of cells that in most cases now would just get thrown into the dumpster when not needed. Strange man.

(counting the minutes til the topic's moved. but inference by more than a couple folks in a memorial thread that God's gonna be mad at the guy because he wanted to pursue conventional scientific medicine requires at least a response)

  11. assuming they all need to be alive (right?):

    Jack Nicholson

    Halle Berry

    Dolly Parton

    Bill Clinton

    Jon Stewart

    Robert DeNiro

    The immortals:

Lincoln (but I'll pass on theatre with the meal)

Robt E Lee (to balance our meal)

Jefferson (-Thomas, not Weezy or George)

    Joan Crawford (without her step-kids)

DaVinci (but just don't get him 'started' about that code)

Jesus [seriously!] (then check back for my postings in the political forum)

    ;) :D

  12. I, for one am most impressed with any performer who doesn't lip-synch and doesn't need 'mixing' and 'morphing' to sound good.

    I was blown away by

    Allison Kraus & Union Station

even if you don't just love country, check her out. No big amps, no lip-synch. Just pure wonderful vocals, guitars, mandolins, drums. WOW.

(and I used to be a big 'club' music guy...)

  13. I'm very saddened by Christopher Reeves death. I had hopes that he might one day walk again.  He was so very brave -- and I applauded his drive to push for more research and funding, especially for stem-cell research. He will be missed by many.

He was a brave man and a class act. His early death may also spur action on the stem cell issue. That would be a fitting legacy.

He's got wings to fly now. No need for a cape. :)

  14. I have not been yet and I also didn't know about the reduced ticket prices!  :o That's pretty cool though.  :)

But it ends up only being 50c cheaper than Arbor Place. Originally they said tix would be 7 but I see they are 8. How are the concession prices? $4 soda and $5 popcorn at Regal and AMC are crazy.

Do they have a movie club at the 278? I get lots of free stuff at the Arbor one.

  15. DJ's mom.....maybe we walked right by each other.  I went around 3:00 and also got one of those free t-shirts.  The seats were comfortable, the popcorn fresh and overall a real nice place.  The theater is a bit smaller than most but it wasn't crowded at all.  I'm glad it's here.  I will miss the old place in Dallas though.  I sure wish it had stayed on as a dollar theater.

In my former hometown, the city bought the old theatre and used it for plays and special events but also four days a week it showed $2 movies.

If the Dallas Theatre is still intact (seats and screen) maybe they should try this, too. The one I spoke of is quite a success and I suspect not too costly to operate.

  16. I love Atlanta Bread in general, but I have to say that the Hiram restaurant has the poorest service that I've seen at one. The attitude seems to come from management and filters on down.  Many times I will by-pass it and head to the one on Dallas Hwy.  They are much friendlier and give more food for the money.

One day, a roll was left out of my meal.  When I asked for it, the manager apologized and led me to the sweets counter.  He told me to pick out whatever I wanted.  That's service!

When this same thing happened one day at Hiram, the person behind the counter actually rolled her eyes at me and slapped a roll on the counter.  I've also noticed that the Hiram Rest. is frequently out of different items on the menu.

I love the chicken salad on sourdough bread!

My experiences at the Hiram location have been poor. The staff is friendly, but they are very frequently out of key menu items. My coffee was cold on several occasions, etc. Also ABC corporate isn't pro customer service. I wrote to them to explain my concerns and they just pooh-poohed it with no apology or explanation. Too bad... it's a pretty nice atmosphere.. just badly managed.

  17. I went from ME to XP and I hate some aspects of XP. For one thing, there's an annoying feature that auto-maximizes a browser window when it finishes loading. That means if you are doing something else, or are working on another browser window, it will continually interrupt you. The geniuses at MS left no option to disable that feature (I went all the way through my PC mfg. & MS support).

I wish I had ME back. XP has a few nice graphics touches but that's about it.

  18. This is my first Sunday Oct 31 since moving from (now be nice) 'up north. BAck there, they would have Trick or Treat on Saturday if Halloween was on a Sunday. So is it held on Sunday here? I am surprised if so, considering things are more conservative and 'faith-based' in general.
