  1. Thanks, It seems like the path of damage might have been a small area in Downtown Dallas.
  2. That is good to hear. I saw the video about Polk Street and was a bit worried. My home is on Atchinson. That is the first street off of Old Cartersville and pretty close to the area on the video. Thanks for the udate.
  3. I don't live in Dallas anymore, but we still have our home there. It is just off Hwy 61 North and Old Cartersville Road. Does anyone live around there or know of any damage in that area?
  4. Though we moved from our beloved little home just N of Dallas in 1999 I am praying for all of you to be safe. Best to all my former neighbors. It will soon be tropical season here in FL so u can return the favor
  5. I can't believe the timing in our departure from 7 yrs of residence in Paulding. The very day after we left, those horrible flooding rains began. I have tried to follow what's going on there, but it's hard to get much info other than Atlanta and Powder Springs. First off: I AM PRAYING that all of you are safe and didn't suffer much property damage. We still own our home there, and are renting it out for a year. It's just off 61 and Old Cartersville, about 1 mile north of the old (and in my opinion- only 'real') courthouse. I believe it should be okay as it is on top of a hill but y
  6. LAST DAY: Here it is, and I can hardly believe it. Probably the last day we will be in Paulding after the better part of a decade living among those picturesque hills and some very fine people. The van is just about fully packed with all the furniture, clothes and all the little things you never really give a thought to that make a house a home. I get a little sad when I see outlines on the carpet where a cabinet once displayed photos of our family, including my Mom who passed away last year..and another place where once stood a comfortable sofa where we'd sit together and laugh or may
  7. Well thank you all so much! I bet I coulda shaken the status-quo. (And even if I failed at everything else at least we could all get from western Dallas to the Cobb County line on 278 in less than 30 minutes. If I had to go out there and personallly re-time every stop light one by one..!) If Florida doesn't work, maybe I'll return and you can be my campaign manager
  8. All posters above: Gosh. I wish I could have met all of you in person. But maybe I did, passing each other in the aisles at Publix or Kroger--or waiting for another long traffic light. . That's a nice thought. You know when we put the 'For Rent' sign up on our property, we had a neighbor who we'd never met -from down the street a ways- tell us how we would be missed and that they really appreciated how well we improved our house and yard and were quiet, respectful neighbors. It was very touching, really. We had a nice chat and exchanged pleasantries. How tragic, though, that it took o
  9. Thanks for that forum tip. Yes, north of Miami Fl.
  10. It's one of the problems when a service/provider has a Monopoly in a given area. Comcast can charge whatever it likes and offer poor customer service and you really have no alternative except Satellite. We have had the same issues, and even with Comcast in other states where we have lived. Think about it too, compared to almost everything else cable TV rates have gone up faster in the last 20 years than just about anything else other than gasoline, housing and medical care. And for over 100 channels that still leave you without anything you want to watch on many occasions. Sigh.
  11. LOL just goes to show you how forums and bbs can make ya a little paranoid. I was looking to see if there were any more replies to this post and did a search by my screen name and by topic and nothing showed up. So naturally my next thought was 'wow, I must have offended somebody because of the 1/5 of the post that expressed an opinion so the post was deleted.' Fortunately, my logical side won out and I just looked back at every single post from yesterday and 'voila!' here it is! Anyway, I am supposed to move out entirely next Wed. and am trying to 'wean' myself off of this place by n
  12. Butterfly, Crankshaft, etc; Thanks for your kind words. You're among the folks I talked about who I shall miss. If it would help Paulding residents see our county in a different light, or just appreciate what they have around them a little bit better, I'd love to have the post shared with everybody who's interested in the reminiscences of just another fellow citizen who knows what he's going to miss very soon. I have to say that I didn't come about my appreciation of the beauty and relative tranquility of the area as a mere consequence of leaving. My 'better-half' can tell you ho
  13. It seems like just yesterday, but it was almost seven years ago that we arrived in Paulding county and settled in our nice little house with the big yard and views of the green NW Georgia hills. It's hard to explain, but I never really felt like a stranger here; the first time I drove through the (once) forest-dotted road leading from Hiram to the Paulding courthouse It seemed like I'd lived here forever. When I stepped inside our house in Dallas' outskirts, I felt relaxed and truly at home. But that was seven years ago, and because of employment opportunities I will be forced to leave thi
