1. I'd have enjoyed hearing this more a few years ago. Urban Meyer joining the conference caused a major decline in my dislike of guys like Fulmer, Spurrier and Tuberville. Hopefully this will cause the vols to continue to tank down the stretch and possibly lose a recruit or two.

  2. Mark needs to tighten them boys up......................I have not seen you post much lately!

I've posted after pretty much every game when it's been talked about. I could tell that Mark was a little pissed after the game. You could see it in his face. I'm just not sure what to say about Martinez. I've defended him in the past, but there's just too must overall talent on our defense for us to look that lost. My dad and I were talking earlier about how our whole starting defense is made up of former four and five star prospects, yet they've now had 38 and 41 points hung on them by teams that aren't exactly offensive juggernauts.

I think the offense is hitting their stride and will be very tough, but I don't want to like a Big XII team who usually has to score 40+ a game to win. I want to see our defense play as stout as I know they're capable of playing.

  3. I never thought I could be a little mad after a win at a Baton Rouge. I'd have felt alright had the game ended with around ten minutes to go, but the final ten minutes were just disgusting. The defense allowed the tigers to score their last two TD's WAAAAAAAAAAAY too easily and allowd two plays of 40 or more yards. They were way too lax on their last TD. I never thought something could tarnish a victory there, but the way they looked near the end absolutely did for me. Heck, they might have scored again there at the end if time hadn't have expired. MUCH improvement will be needed on that side of the way if they expect to have a prayer against the gators. LSU didn't have a bunch of chumps on offense, but no way should our defense allow nearly 500 yards to that offense. Thank God for Darryl Gamble having the game of his life or who knows might have happened. He'd be one of the few defenders who I wouldn't be giving an earful on practice come Monday.

Coming into the game, the offense was what concerned me the most. I didn't know how our o-line would hold up against their stout d-line, but they did a very good job throughout the game. They allowed for Stafford, Moreno and Green to show their big play ability and keep their defense guessing throughout the game. That's two straight games where this particular group has looked pretty solid, so hopefully it can continue.

It would have been so nice to have been able to let off the gas a little in the 4th quarter, but the defense forgetting how to play ball made this game go down to the wire. It would be soooo great for both units to click at the same time, but I just don't know if that's possible with this team. Over the past couple of the games, the defense has done well but the offense has failed to score touchdowns and put teams away. Today, the offense more than came to play and the defense got pushed around and flat out embarrassed themselves late in the game.

Next week's game could be a 48-45 type of game that comes down to who has the ball last. I just hope we're the ones with 48 at the end.

  4. That gauntlet is going to beat UGA's O-line to hell by the time you play Tech.

Matthew Stafford is going to spend more time on his back that day than Paris Hilton. Or Colt Brennan, take your pick.

Or it could make the unit stronger as they get more experience like it did last season. Don't forget, they also have a BYE week before playing GT. Who knows how GT will fair once they finally get to set at the big boy table. God knows they certainly won't get all that many challenges by playing the ACC schedule. Their road probably just got a little easier since Clemson won't even have a true head coach on Saturday.

  5. Talk about going from very low to very high in a matter of minutes. It kind of reminded me of the UGA game yesterday in that they kept having to settle for FG's insted of TD's. I had a really bad feeling when Elam missed that field goal at the end, but man did he redeem himself. Losing a game like that can send your whole season on a downward spiral. They showed a lot of character for sure.

  6. They did their best to give it to Tennessee however.

How many times were they in the Red zone and couldn't get it in?

They will have to do better than that in these next games.

    SG

Yes, we sure did. We outplayed Tennessee far more than the final score indicated and vol fans know it, which is why the heat on Fulmer will not cool down any. Mike Bobo had some questionable playcalling with those fade routes that we kept running when we'd get down into the red zone (None of them worked and one resulted in Stafford's second pick) and the o-line really struggled to open holes for our running game. Moreno had 101 yards on the day, but the fact that he only averaged 3.7 YPC shows that he had to really work for them. It seemed like he rarely had a run for more than 3 yards. Some of that has to be attributed to UT's speed upfront, but a good bit of it falls on the o-line. Losing Vince Vance for the season with an ACL injury definitely isn't going to help the unit down the stretch.

Redzone efficiency is definitely something that needs to be addressed in practice. We were pretty good at scoring in the redzone in '07 but have struggled in that department thus far in '08. Luckily we have a pretty reliable young kicker in Blair Walsh, but the really good teams will score touchdowns more times than not when they get into that area. As seen in the polls, style points really matter, so we've got to score touchdowns when we have the chance.

Penalties improved (11 overall, but 3 of those were something intentional like delay of game) a lot in the first half, but then we regressed and started looking more like we have over the past few games during the second half. It didn't stick out as much because Tennessee did even worse in that department. This has to be the most uninspired, unfocused and undisciplined team that I've ever seen out of the vols. Even the '05 team that finished 5-6 looked better than this one. I can see why vol fans are so frustrated. When they introduced Fulmer at the stadium, it was hard to tell which fanbase was booing louder. Not good for the vols but a bit humorous if you're a dawg fan. :D

  7. SEC fans take note you have some good teams- Florida, Georgia, LSU, and Alabama. Vandy showed they are Vandy losing to an awful Miss. State Team and AUburn and Tennessee are two teams really suffering. That is about it though and the Big 12 is by far becoming the best conference in football. Oklahoma, Texas, O State, Kansas, Missouri, and Texas Tech are showing that the Big 12 isnt dead.

I don't see it becoming "by far" the best conference in the land. It's definitely made strides and is near the SEC now, but defense is what wins championships and the SEC has the edge in that department. Auburn, Tennessee and South Carolina don't have much offense this year, but all of them can play some defense and can be tough to move the ball against. The one area where I'd give them a clear edge is at the QB position. They have experienced QB's across the board whereas there's a bit more of a dropoff in the SEC once you get past Stafford, Tebow and Parker-Wilson.

  8. Through five games, it is blatantly obvious that Paul Johnson is a completely different coach than Chan Gailey. No team will ever beat a Paul Johnson-coached Georgia Tech team 51-7. Chan Gailey let that happen more than once, and would lose a mind-boggling game to Duke, UNC, UVA,or Maryland every year. Tech's fanbase is fired up because we're not going to see let-downs that we used to.

Duke's dink-and-dunk passing offense would have put up 30 on a John Tenuta-coached defense yesterday.

Tech has two projected NFL first round seniors, another senior with NFL potential (and an MBA), and a 4-star SO on their defensive line. UGA's O-line is much worse off than they were last year due to youth, injuries and very little depth, and they're not going to get the chance to build any depth against UT, Vandy, Auburn, or UF. I won't believe that Tech will beat UGA until I see it, but having seen UGA's O-line get manhandled by Bama leaves me with no doubt that Stafford is going to be in for a long game on Nov. 29th.

Never say never, although that is less likely to happen in the current ACC. There is a lot of buzz surrounding GT right now, but I remember similar buzz back in '02. Chain Gailey was a guy with a lot of NFL coaching experience and many techies were excited about what he could bring to the program. Perhaps the Jackets will flourish more under Johnson, but through five games, the results are very similar. But if he does take off and shows that his system can work in major 1-A football, then he'll be getting offers from bigger programs, which might not be good for the Jacket nation.

We'll face numerous defenses that are loaded with future NFL talent, so don't expect that to strike too much fear into dawg fans. Our line is not "much worse" off than they were a year ago. Last year, we did have two seniors but that was it as far as 1-A experience went. This year, even without Sturdivant, there are two guys who started in '07 and four more (Was five until Kiante Tripp recently moved to TE) who got to play last season. There's also a few more available bodies to rotate than there was a year ago. The o-line hasn't been strong thus far, but like I said, it wasn't this time last year either. But once we settled on a starting five and they got more and more reps together, the line became a force and the offense flourished. I'm confident that the same will happen this season.

Prior to play GT, the line will have eleven games (Including the entire SEC gauntlet) under their belts. They'll also have a BYE week before the game. This time last year, one could have said that Stafford was in for a long day when we played GT's blitz happy defense later in the year, but by the time that game rolled around, the line had matured and did a good job of protecting him and allowing the offense to move the ball, despite the fact that Moreno injured his ankle.

Clemson , like UGA , was overrated in the preseason .

So if you were a voter, where would you initially rank a team who returned nearly everyone from the team that finished No. 2 last season?

  9. The ACC is third in week 5 Conference power rankings, not "pretty weak". And they are 8-8 vs BCS Teams. The SEC is ranked #1 and are 5-4 vs BCS, and the Dogs are 1-1 in the SEC while GT is also 1-1 in the ACC. GT's 38-7 win over Miss State was their most convincing loss of the season.

So no , Tech may not be there yet, but they are not to be taken lightly either. Unfortunately next week is a fluke brought on by scheduling problems, but a couple of wins in their next games will tell.

The ACC gets a boost by the Pac-10 being down. It's still pretty weak overall. Their current best team couldn't even take East Carolina. Clemson was supposed to be a big bad BCS contender this year but have flopped again. I think it could be a little better than it has been over the past few years, but it's still not all that good of a conference. This will absolutely help GT rise in the rankings.

I don't think anyone ever takes the Jackets light. They haven't done anything to cause a fan of a program like UGA to "worry" either, though.

  10. Vanderbilt hasn't been the same old Vandy for several years now. Prior to this season, they had already won in Fayetteville, Knoxville, Athens, and Columbia since '05. They've had a lot of good starting talent for years (Two first round NFL draft picks and the SEC's all-time leading receiver), but Bobby Johnson has done a great job at maximizing their potential. I hope they don't do a tank job at MSU next weekend. Following a big win like that, I could just see them having a letdown on the road against a team that they should be able to handle. It would be great if they came into Athens ranked near the dawgs. As far as SEC games go, Vanderbilt is usually the one where some people might stay home, so it would be cool to see the place being a little more electric for that game. We owe them one for what they did the last time they came to Sanford.

  11. The DAWGS may have to start worrying for the first time since O'Leary . This new system is starting strong and hopefully gonna get stronger .Calvin Johnson made Chan & Reggie look better than they were .

    LET'S GO JACKETS!!!!!

    :clapping:

    Concern for your opponent? Always.

Worried about a team beating up on Duke? Um....no. This isn't basketball. The Jackets haven't looked bad so far, but let's keep things in perspective here. Like Vanderbilt, they haven't really gone up against an offense that can really move the ball either. The ACC is also once again pretty weak, so that could definitely help the Jackets shine. Playing two 1-AA opponents certainly won't hurt those numbers either.

Paul Johnson may bring a new attitude to the team, but they haven't done anything that should cause the dawgs to "worry" just yet. BTW, through five games, Chan Gailey had the exact same record in '02. Tech actually looked pretty competitive in all but one of their games that year before they came to Athens and got throttled 51-7.

we do know one thing. uga can be physically beat. bama just man handled them in every way on both lines and that is one of tech's stronger points

That was one of tech's stronger points for pretty much every year with Jon Tenuta running the defense, yet the losses didn't stop. Our lines didn't look overly impressive during the first part of '07 either, but then both became a force down the stretch.

  12. My intentions were made very clear for the GA fans to NOT post in this one. And, for that matter, ALABAMA fans were the ONLY ones asked to step in. This topic was (and is) for ALABAMA FANS ONLY. No misconceptions here. If you have something to say, start your own topic, please.

I am not wanting to start (read or listen) any crap or respond to the typical "Alabama jokes" .............. they are all OLD news. Like I told my daughter soon after we moved up here and she came home from school upset because all the kids did during lunch was tell Alabama jokes. She said, "Momma why do they do that, we never told jokes when we lived in Alabama about Georgia." And I told her, "no honey, we always had Mississippi". Been there, done that, told them and heard them.

So....................I posted these links...........with no purpose but....................

Purely for the enjoyment of my fellow Bama and Saban-ites.

You are aware that you're posting on a site that is based in Georgia, right? Of course there's bound to be a dawg fan come in here. Go to scout.com's Bama board if you want to solely speak with Tide fans.

  13. NEVER be that RUDE and behave in such a childish manner with guests in my home.

So, yes, I DO look down on A "big dawg fan".

My husband yells and carries on when he watches Alabama football at home. But, he was very respectful of being in our friends home and he being a UGA fan and did not yell or rub it in.

I beg to differ with you.......a "true dawg fan" can act in an adult manner and behave as such, just as the TRUE BAMA FANS in his home did!! It was down right RUDE!!!!

    Give me a Break!!!!!

And, just so you know, I am NOT a "casual fan" and take offense to you implying such - that I would not understand or am stupid. Believe me, it has been a LONG dry spell for us ALABAMA fans and I relate all too well to disappointment in a game we should have and could have played better!!!!!!

My child is named after Bear Bryant and I was attending games in Bryant-Denney stadium when Joe Willie Namath was playing............so I am a

    "TRUE BAMA FAN".

You do not name your child after the football coach unless your blood runs CRIMSON and are an AVID FAN!!!!!!

Well, the fact that you look down on someone for simply being upset over the fact that the team that they love is playing so poorly does make you sound like a casual fan despite all the credentials that you mentioned later in the message.

I still wouldn't think less of him for being down and not wanting to be in the same room with Bama fans. I know I sure wouldn't have on Saturday night, although I'd also be smart enough to not invite them over to watch the game with me either. That was his biggest mistake to me.

Believe me, he could have done much worse than simply walk out of a room and not talk to you for the rest of the night. At least he didn't put a gun to one of your heads and pull the trigger like one Bama fan did to his SON following Bama's massive choke job against Arkansas in 2003. Luckily the kid managed to move out of the way before the bullet hit him. Now that's what I'd call going too far.

  14. This is what everyone was saying at the beginning of the season when everyone said the DAWGS were over rated. I'm afraid that it's starting to show the truth that they are over rated. They have had two SEC games. Barely beat SC by one touchdown and then the next SEC team whipped them. We will see next week what happens against TN. Hopefully they will show what they are made of but if they loose I hope at least people will finally admit they are over rated.

So where would you originally rank a team who returned the bulk of their talent from a team that won eleven games and finished No. 2? Pre-season, they belonged in at least the top three and it wasn't out of the question for them to be No. 1. But right now, I'd say they still belong in the top ten but don't belong in the top five due to the play of both lines and the fact that they average about ten penalties a game. That was what made the biggest difference on Saturday night. As far as overall talent goes, Bama is in no way way ahead of the dawgs. I'd take Stafford over John Parker Wilson in a heartbeat, Moreno over any of their RB's and I'd take our overall receiving corp over theirs. But as they say, the game is won in the trenches, and that's one area where they're clearly ahead of the dawgs at this point. That kind of negates the fact that we probably have a future top five NFL Draft pick at QB, RB and WR.

The good thing is that the dawgs were in a similar positon last season. During the first half, neither the o or d-line was overly impressive, but both were among the best in the nation down the stretch, which was when the dawgs got hot and won their final six games by double digits.

But I'd say there's something seriously wrong with them if they don't come out and really lay one on the vols. A combination of what took place two weeks earlier and the fact that the vols have embarrassed them over the last five quarters should have them more pissed off than they've been in a while next Saturday.

  15. As HAPPY as I am with the outcome and how GREAT and SOLID Bama looked, I agree. We were watching it with friends who the husband is a GEORGIA fan............in the 3rd quarter, he got up, went to bed, closed the door. PERIOD. No, good night, kiss my ??? or anything.

HELLO??? it is a BALLGAME and you are (supposed to be) an ADULT!!!!!!!

    ROLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL TIDE ROLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I certainly wouldn't look down on a big dawg fan for doing that. If you were a true dawg fan and not someone who follows them just because it's the "cool" thing to do then Saturday night was very depressing because you knew that we were A LOT better than how we looked in the first half. This guy and his older parents sit next to us at Sanford. At halftime, the guy told his parents that he was ready to go because he couldn't take watching anymore of this sh%*. I went and got me some dip-n-dots at halftime and jokingly asked the lady if she could put a lot of bourbon in it for me.

What happened Saturday night was very depressing to any real dawg fan. It has nothing to do with being an adult or not. The casual fan often can't understand this, which is why I'll go out of my way to avoid watching a game with them.

  16. Maybe Coach Richt should have been putting more time into keeping his players out of trouble, recruiting players who don't have histories of getting into trouble, and developing a better gameplan instead of becoming a corporate shill. I sincerely hope he is donating the proceeds to the school, as he wears his public institution clothes on TV. Is he the highest paid public employee in the state?

Or maybe you should learn what you're talking about. First, could you please fill me in on all of these players who Richt recruits knowing that they have troubled pasts? Second, Mike Bobo is the OC and calls the plays, so the bulk game planning will fall on him. Although you can't really place too much of the blame for what took place last night on poor game planning. It will be difficult for anyone to effectively run the offense when they are getting very little protection and keep having penalties or a key turnover (A.J. Green's fumble) hurt them.

  17. Where's all the howling about how great Georgia's football is was going to be and deserve the #1 position? You don't see any cars with flags flying today. It was appropriate for the team and fans to where black because they got their a---- beat so bad. How is their volley ball team doing?

Don't feel too bad. My Clemson tigers embarrassed me again. So bad I had to take down my Tiger flag and go hide it. I have sent an email to Bowden giving him 24 hours to resign or its tar and feathers.

But I will be out there cheering the Tigers on next week as usual. Never give up!

Is someone still bitter about '03? It sucks to have to live through other teams, huh? I guess that's one thing Clemson and GT fans will always have in common.

Just because you're fairweathered doesn't mean that we all are. I don't personally fly a flag on my car (Is annoying hearing it flap all the time), but I wouldn't take it down simply because the team lost.

As former UGA player Von Gammon once said while being carried off the field after suffering a head injury that would later claim his life....."A Georgia man never quits." :D

  18. I think it's rather obvious who I'll be pulling for. :)

Unfortunately, I didn't get the attend the blackout against Auburn last year (Of all games to miss!), so of course I got a little extra excited when I heard Sunday night that Richt was calling for one against Bama. The place would have already been pretty electric due to the fact that it will be a nationally televised night game against a top ten team, but the addition of a blackout could definitely set a new record when it comes to the decibel level.

Gameday will also be there for the first time in a decade. Hopefully the result is a bit better than the last time they came during the '98 UT game. Hopefully Corso won't curse them and start barking or something.

  19. I definitely think it's time for him to step down, but I still hated hearing it. His voice is one of the first things that made me want to be a dawg fan when I was little. He'll always be the voice of UGA football to me.

  20. Got to go with college. It's the first time that you get to see the best of the best play against one another. There's a lot of passion in high school ball, but it's also filled with a lot of kids who aren't all that good and are mainly only playing just to fill space. The ones who excel at that level get to go on to play college ball against the other stand-outs from the high school level. You could argue that pro football would be even better since it's the best of the best from the collegiate ranks, but money becomes involved and it becomes a lot more businesslike. The college game is the last time that you'll truly see the guys playing with all their hearts. Many will change for the worse once they go pro and get intertwined with an agent like Drew Rosenhaus or Scott Boras.

As much criticism as the polls and BCS system will receive in college football (At least at the 1-A level), it actually helps set the sport apart from the rest. Because of the polls, EVERY GAME truly means something. Lose one game and you risk jeopardizing your shot at the national title. Last season, the New York Giants lost six games during the regular season and still managed to win the Super Bowl. The end of the regular season of 1-A football is very exciting because you'll have numerous teams trying to win and impress the voters in order to keep their shot at the BCS Championship Game alive. The last couple of weeks of the NFL regular season are often not as good because you'll usually have several top teams resting their starters for the playoffs.

And even if you don't make it to the BCS Championship Game, you can still have a strong finish to your season by winning your bowl game. The atmosphere at nearly any bowl game game is something special. It's great seeing a fairly even number (Or at least 70-30 in some cases) of fans cheering on their respected team and conference.

Yep, I'd take college football (At least the 1-A level) over any other part.

  21. I have to say that only a GA fan, who's team is way over rated, would think they have the toughest schedule. First two games were a joke and I wouldn't call AZ or Vandi a real challenge. But a GA fan would since they have an over rated team and want to keep it there.

Being bitter and calling the dawgs overrated is one thing, but questioning the overall toughness of their '08 schedule just makes one look like they don't really know a whole lot about college football.

What exactly would you call a tough schedule then? Playing six teams that were ranked in this week's polls (Only one of them at Sanford) isn't tough enough for you? Two of those teams (Florida and LSU) happen to have won the past two national championships and the dawgs play them BACK-TO-BACK away from Sanford. That's not including Tennessee and at Kentucky. Tennessee didn't look impressive against UCLA, but they're still Tennessee and will bring a good team to Athens. I'm not expecting Kentucky's offense to be as tough as last season, but playing them at in Lexington won't be a cakewalk either.

Yeah, playing Arizona might not look as tough, but the dawgs are playing Arizona State (Currently #14) out in Tempe. From here on, Vanderbilt could be their least toughest opponent, but it's hard to call them a cupcake anymore since they've more than shown the ability to jump up and beat some of the bigger programs in recent years.

The opening two games weren't overly difficult, but so what? With the schedule that they're going to have from here on, opening with a 1-AA opponent and a decent mid-major was a good way for the guys to get their feet wet and get ready for the much tougher challenges that will start next Saturday. Whether you like the dawgs or not, you'll be hard pressed to find a more difficult schedule in '08.
