  1. Shocking. I always loved her voice on King of the Hill and thought she was good in Just Married and Clueless. She was also in this very funny SNL skit about six or seven years ago where she was trying on these leather pants in this store where these crazy characters played by Jimmy Fallon and Horatio Sanz worked.

  2. Bama got off easy compared to what they got with the whole Albert Means thing at the start of the decade. Forfeiting wins is one of the dumbest penalties ever (Everyone who saw those 21 victories are supposed to forget that they happened?), but it is much better than losing scholarships or bowl eligibility.

  3. Millvina Dean died yesterday at the age of 97. Millvina was the last known living member of the Titanic. Millvina was just nine weeks old at the sinking, which also made her the youngest of all the passengers. Her father died in the sinking, but she was able to escape with her mother and brother. Over the years, Millvina has been involved with numerous Titanic events. Recently, she was forced to sell some of her families Titanic related possessions in order to pay her private medical care bills. The last survivor with actual memories of the voyage died nearly three years ago, but Millvina's death marks the official end of an era.

  4. That's definitely one of those days where you remember what you were doing when you first heard it. At that time, I was in the 8th grade at Herschel Jones. I walked into Ms. Loudermilk's 5th period Georgia History class and saw her and a few other students watching the coverage of what looked like a burning building on TV. I knew that it was the second year anniversary of the events at Waco, so I figured it was something about that. Then I heard her say that a federal building had blown up in Oklahoma City. We watched the coverage for the rest of class. I could tell by looking at it that there would a good number of deaths, but I remember feeling especially bad when they talked about the first floor daycare center.

April 16th-20th is quite a dark and memorable time for Americans. You have the anniversaries of the Virginia Tech massacre, the ambush at Waco, and the Oklahoma City bombing all occurring during that period.

  5. Even more news for the class of 2009. Man, this class just won't quit.

You may have read about the dawgs losing recent LB signee Dexter Moody about ten days ago. He was released from his scholarship after an altercation with this teacher at his high school. I might have cared more if he hadn't have then talked about how UGA wasn't really his favorite school and that he was only going there because his teammate Washaun Ealey would also be attending. Good riddance, I say.

But today, his scholarship was given to kicker Brandon Bogotay out of Grossmont College in the San Diego, CA area. At first I wondered why on Earth they'd give another scholarship to a kicker since we currently already have two on scholarship, but then I watched video of him and could see why they would be interested.

    http://www.sandiegoballers.com/09BogotayBrandon.wmv

Halfway into the video, you see him booming kickoff after kickoff into the back of the endzone. Dawg fans should know what a problem that has been for us in recent years, particularly last season when Blair Walsh kicked EIGHT BALLS out of bounds, including two against Georgia Tech. Bogotay didn't even play in high school but showed a big leg while kicking as a freshman at Grossmont last year. It's obvious that our coaches have been doing their homework and scouring the country for someone who can help on kickoffs. Like Blair Walsh and Drew Butler, Bogotay will be a sophomore, so that should make for some interesting competition come August.

  6. Add two more to that. A couple weeks ago, the dawgs landed big Georgetown, SC DT Kwame Geathers. He is a four star DT with a massive frame at 6-5 320. He picked the dawgs over Tennessee and Central Florida. Dawg fans might remember his brother Robert Geathers (Now with the Bengals) playing DE for us earlier this decade. His brother Clifton also committed to the dawgs a few years ago, but academic issues forced him to attend prep school. He signed with South Carolina once that was over. Like Clifton, Kwame is rumored to have grade issues and might have to attend Hargrave for a year. Hopefully he'll be able to eventually qualify.

Then less than an hour ago, five star Tampa TE Orson Charles chose the dawgs over USC and Tennessee. UGA seemed to have the inside edge on him for a while, but he finally made it certain today. He is similar to current UGA TE Aron White in that he's slimmer and has the speed to be a TE/WR hybrid kind of player. He is the teammate and close friend of fellow signee Aaron Murray, so it will be nice to see the duo come to Athens. Whether he committed to UGA or not, Charles became an instant favorite of dawg fans when he accidentally broke UF's 2006 national championship trophy during his visit there.

These two are awesome additions to what was already a very good class. The dawgs should easily be ranked #4 in the overall rankings now (Despite signing less players than the three ahead of them) and could pass USC for the lead when it comes to average recruit ranking.

  7. Big day for college football fans. Marlon Brown picking the dawgs over Tennessee and Ohio State a little while ago should guarantee the dawgs another top ten class. Here are the biggest names for the class of '09....

QB Aaron Murray - No. 3 from Tampa, FL

He's one of the top players in Florida who Urban would have loved to have had in his offense. After a monster junior year where he threw for over 4,000 yards, he broke his leg and missed some games during his senior year, but he came back to lead his team to the state title. He's a dual-threat QB who is the most anticipated signee since Stafford. He's already on campus and will get to participate in spring drills, so look for him to push for playing time in '09. Starting over senior Joe Cox might be a tall order, but he should definitely be UGA's starting quarterback of the future.

CB Branden Smith - No. 2 from Atlanta

Aside from Murray, his commitment probably got the most buzz due to how our corners have struggled. Smith is a potential two-way player who could make an instant impact in several areas. He's already drawn some comparisons to Champ Bailey, so I expect for him to push for playing time come fall.

WR Marlon Brown - No. 2 from Memphis, TN

As mentioned, Brown was the big news on signing day. There was a rumor that he might head to Ohio State, but in the end, he chose to join fellow Memphis commit Austin Long in Athens. He's nearly 6-6 and should push for playing time alongside A.J. Green. Like A.J., the guy catches nearly everything thrown his way, so those two could wreak havoc on SEC defenses for at least the next couple of seasons.

DT Abry Jones - No. 10 from Warner Robins

He played DE in high school but will make the move to DT for the dawgs. He doesn't really have the size to always clog the middle, but his speed and athleticism will make him tough to block and should earn him some good playing time down the road.

RB Washaun Ealey - No. 15 from Twin City

Ealey has put up big numbers throughout his high school career and leads the state in career touchdowns. He doesn't have great breakaway speed, but he has a good frame that should make him a solid in-between the tackles RB down the road. He'll compete for playing time in the fall but will most likely redshirt unless he really puts on a show.

Other big lands were TE Arthur Lynch (First MA recruit since TE Jermaine Wiggins over a decade ago), OG Dallas Lee (Tough player who should be at least a four start prospect), QB Zach Mettenberger (Big drop-back passer who along with Murray was an Elite 11 quarterback), OT Austin Long (Another Memphis native who could compete for playing time next season), and LB Mike Gilliard (Speedy linebacker who should make a difference on the outside).

After Brown's commitment, the dawgs now have 18 recruits and are ranked 8th per scout. It looks like Alabama and LSU will lead the conference in recruiting after having great finishes. So the dawgs are 8th when it comes to total points, but only USC has a better average recruit ranking with a 3.90 to the dawgs 3.89. This is what I usually look at the most since it doesn't go strictly by the number of overall recruits. The dawgs could move up a little more if they were to land big TE Orson Charles from Tampa. He is Murray's teammate and isn't going to name his choice until after he visits USC on the 13th. There's also massive DT Kwame Geathers who has yet to decide between UGA and UCF, but I've heard that he might not be a dawg due to academic reasons.

The good thing is that we didn't lose anyone on signing day this year. We lost big DE Toby Jackson for the second time due to academic reasons a week or two ago, but that was the only originally committed player that the dawgs lost. He's headed to JC and could still be dawg in a couple of years, but I don't think anyone has high hopes there.

Prior to landing Marlon, I was a little disappointed with how the dawgs might finish things. They lost big OT Bobby Massie to Ole Miss (It was supposed to be to Alabama but then he signed with Ole Miss today), CB Greg Reid to Florida State (Biggest shock since I was pretty certain he'd be a dawg after he visited Athens this past weekend) and both S Jawanza Starling and LB Jarvis Jones (Jones wasn't a big surprise, but it still sucked seeing the state's top LB slip away) to USC.

So we saw some big names leave the state this year, but that was expected since we knew we wouldn't have as many scholarships as some other teams. But I'd say Richt and company made up for losing some of our big in-state talent by taking top five names from Florida, Tennessee, Virginia, Indiana, and Massachusetts. We'll see how this talent develops and who makes an impact in '09.

  8. I have an old Nintendo, Game Boy (Before they become color), Sega Genesis, Sega Saturn, and Nintendo 64. I mainly played games on here for years until I got a PS3 in May of last year. Before that, I had a Wii for about a week before returning it. Unfortunately, I couldn't return Call of Duty 3 for Wii, so I'd sell it to someone for pretty cheap if they want it.

  9. Very sad. I was in school with Tynan from Dallas Elementary through PCHS. I first got to know him in 7th grade when we had several classes together at Herschel Jones. I remember playing basketball with him a lot during P.E. and he was my partner when we got to disect a frog in science. He was a smart guy who always seemed to be in the classes for the really smart kids. I last spoke with him sometime in 2000 up at Chattahoochee Tech. May he rest in peace.

  10. Well, Prince Miller will still be there, but he's never struck me as a No. 1 CB. Bryan Evans will also be a senior, but he was moved to safety at the end of last season and might stay there. That wouldn't upset me much since he has never shown the ability to be a cover corner. Him and Ramarcus Brown were the ones who most QB's picked on last year. The main time I remember Asher getting beat was against UF when Louis Murphy scored but got away with a rather obvious pass interference by shoving Asher down. For a CB, Asher was a pretty good tackler and probably helped save our defense from getting burned with a few more big plays this pass season.

Junior Vance Cuff and sophomore Brandon Boykin (Mainly played on special teams in '08) will have to step up and take on bigger roles. Big Sanders Commings will also be in the mix after redshirting this past season and the dawgs already have commitments from promising CB's Jordan Love and Braden Smith (Two-way player who has drawn comparions to Champ Bailey). They also seem to be a favorite for recent UF decommit CB Greg Reid (MVP of the recent High School Under Armour Game), so hopefully Asher's departure will help them land him.

So some of the young guys will have to step up and play key roles in the secondary next season. Hopefully our pass rush will get better in order to take some pressure off of the unit.

  11. He confirmed it a little bit ago. This is what he said at a teleconference...

"Georgia has been nothing but great to me," Allen said. "It has helped me become what I am now. My family and I think the best thing is for me to go to the NFL Draft. This has been a very, very hard decision for me."

According to an article, it said that he received a favorable review, which had him going in the second, but that would be a bit of a surprise to me. He's our closest thing to a shutdown corner, but he didn't even have a single INT this past season. I've known since the '06 spring game that he had the chance to be something special and take his game to the next level, but I definitely didn't see him leaving early. This is a blow to the secondary since we don't currently have anyone else who has proven to be a No. 1 CB. One of the young guys will have to step up to start alongside Prince Miller.

  12. I found this on Dawgpost.

MIAMI (SP) -- Shortly after leading the Florida Gators to a national
championship with a 24-14 win over Oklahoma, junior quarterback Tim Tebow announced that he would skip his senior season and ascend
directly into heaven.

Tebow entered the press room to wild applause. A reporter for a 24-
hour cable sports network burst into tears when the 2007 Heisman
winner entered the room. Another threw a pair of boxer shorts on the
podium. Tebow smiled at the gesture and several sports reporters
fainted.

"Sorry I'm late," Tebow began. "There was a six-year-old boy with
cancer in row 54 and I had to make my way through the crowd to heal
him."

"I want to start by saying that playing quarterback for the University of Florida, winning two national championships, has been a great honor. There has been some speculation about my future and I want to clear that up right now," he continued. "Don't go, Tim!" a reporter shouted from the back of the room.

"After much consideration, I have decided to skip my senior season at the University of Florida and ascend directly into Heaven," Tebow announced. Upon making the announcement, Tebow was bathed in a blinding white light and vanished.

In response to the news, ESPN announced they will have a month-long tribute to Tebow. ESPN2 will now be known as ESPN-TEBOW and will feature Tebow highlights (including home videos of Tebow's childhood), re-airings of past interviews, Tebow-centric analysis by ESPN air personalities, a Tebow quiz show and a reality show to find the "most Tebow-like" person in America.

"He wasn't just the greatest player in college football history," said a college football writer at the press conference, tears streaming down his face. "He might have been the greatest person to ever walk on earth."

  13. I agree I don't think the analyst overblew it with Shockley. I still don't understand his decision to stay at Georgia and play behind Greene. Was it his parents making the decision for him? That was a bad call on their end. I just hate he's not doing as well as I thought he would in the NFL. Maybe if he had went to another college, things would have been different. But who knows. When it comes to the Pros its who wants it the most that succeeds.

His father Don was his coach in high school and really loved what Richt was all about, so he definitely encouraged D.J. to stick it out. He still could have left, but he was a special kind of player who stuck to his commitment.

Joe Cox is in a similar situation. He wasn't quite as heralded coming out of high school as D.J., but he is also a very talented QB who could have easily transferred once it was clear that Stafford was our guy. He actually has family ties to Duke (He originally committed there in '04), so it would have been easy for him to transfer there and have two years to play. Cox will also deserve similar praise.

Who is Tim Tebows and just how cute of a butt are we talking about?

Just watch any college football segment on ESPN and you're bound to get a glimpse of him. He actually looks a good bit like Brendan Fraser's character in School Ties. Ironically, he also played the star quarterback in that movie.

I agree with the media always talking about Tebow......even when his team is not the offense on the field. The first time I heard about him going to the mission field and standing up for this Christianity on an ESPN special, I was blown away. I continue to have a lot of respect for him as a man and his convictions.

I've tried from day one to find a reason to not like him, but it's been impossible. He plays on a team that I despise, but he's a great idividual whose leadership is just unreal for someone his age.

  14. It must be real tough to have a heart for someone that is going to kick UGA's tail for the next decade or 2!

Urban is gone as soon as Notre Dame needs a new head coach. He already said a few weeks ago that Notre Dame is still his dream job. That's another reason to not like him. What kind of a person comes out and says that while in the midst of getting his team ready to play for a national title?

If he does hang around, it will be interesting to see how his offense operates without Tebow and Harvin. Those two came along at a perfect time. I know he would have loved to have nabbed future UGA commit Aaron Murray. He would have been the perfect fit for that offense, but he'll be helping the dawgs instead.

  15. When you sign your 'organ donor' card please put a note on there that you don't have a heart to donate. :o :p

I have plenty heart for the good people. :)

I understand that is the tradition. But some times things need to change.

In this case, it definitely needs to. It's not like that's usually much of a game lately, anyways. It's just USC whooping up on someone and painting an even bigger negative image on the Big Ten.

  16. It is ONLY a game!!! Man!!!! Jonger.. I have one question for you... If Urban Meyer was laying on the side of the road bleeding to death.... would you call 911?

I know it's a game!!! What else would I think of it as?

I'd stop and give him assistance and take two timeouts where I sat and did nothing for a couple of minutes before eventually tying off the tourniquet. Afterwards, I'd remark about he bleeds UGA red rather than gator blue. :D

  17. I still want to know why USC doesn't play an SEC team for the big bowl games. I was happy when Texas beat them for title a few years ago but why not have a strong SEC team from the last 3 Sugars Bowls actually should have played USC. They would have been some of the best games of the years I think.

It's because they win the Pac-10 every year and the winner of that conference automatically goes to the Rose Bowl to play the champion of the Big Ten. It's the same with the Sugar taking the SEC champion, Fiesta taking the Big Twelve and Orange taking the ACC. The Pac-10 and Big Ten's dying devotion to keep their tradition alive is the biggest obstacle standing in the way of there being a playoff, so USC fans can't really complain much.

Last year, EVERYONE wanted to see UGA play USC in the Rose Bowl, but they just had to stick with their tradition and take an Illinois team who was ranked lower and had one more loss.

  18. Whatever Sergeant Fury. Oh what a serious war we have going on between Gainesville and Athens... When you say something as absurd as “Urban Meyer could be coaching a group of players against the Al-Qaeda All-Stars and I'd still have a hard time pulling for him.”, you illustrate how over the top some college football fanatics are, and you bring ridicule on yourself. The bad part is, you are probably rabidly serious. Similar to what Motor City Madman said earlier, I have my favorite college team, I like it win they win, and I wish they won when they lost. That is where it ends with me too. Good lord, you say we share a border and fight for recruits like it’s Israel and Lebanon. It’s a freakin’ football G-A-M-E, get over it.

When did I mention war, genius? What I said about Urban was actually a way of "sarcastically" showing how much I dislike him and further illustrating one of the numerous reasons why I wouldn't ever pull for the gators. Then you have come in acting like Mr. Tightwad who takes everything that he reads seriously. It'll be ok. :)

And yeah, I am a college football fanatic and have been for as long as I can really remember. If what people like me type offends you, well, then DON'T READ IT. It's not like you're compelled to read it. There are topics on this board that I don't care for, so I just stay out of them all-together. I don't go into those threads trying to act like I'm better than certain people just because we may share a different POV. Come into a thread like this and you're bound to encounter some casual people who don't really care unless their team is doing well and some people like me who get really into it.

I'm well aware of when the game ends. You got to love these indviduals who come into these threads looking down on those who actually show any real kind of enthusiasm. Some people just can't help themselves.

Israel and Lebanon? LOL, what the hell are you talking about now? We do share a border with Florida and do annually battle them for recruits (They took one of GA's top players last season in Omar Hunter and the dawgs did the same this season with Aaron Murray), so for the other poster to say that the dawgs are no threat did sound kind of dumb.

Oh, it's a game, huh? Wow, thanks for the clarification. Prior to that I thought it was just 22 guys having a battle royal for sixty minutes.

  19. Does anyone think Utah would have a chance against the Gators?

Not really. They deserve a lot of credit for how they played against a very good Alabama team, but some seem to forget their overall schedule when comparing them to teams like Oklahoma or Florida. Alabama is good, but when they're clicking, Florida plays at a whole other level and would most likely clobber Utah. It's a shame that we'll never get to find that out, though.
