  1. I think it's a really wise decision on the part of whomever decided to cancel it, but couldn't it have been moved to another weekend?

They did consider that but this is such a busy time of year for people and with so many other festivals going on, they felt it would be better to cancel for Fall and do something in the Spring.

And I agree. Though it certainly was not an easy decision, it was the right one.

Now lets just hope that everybody behaves themselves that day so we don't make the National News for this embarassment.

  2. 1 Package Kraft Macaroni and Cheese

    1 lb. ground beef

    onion, chopped

    1 beef boullion cube

    1 can undiluted tomato soup

    oregano

    salt and pepper to taste

Cook and drain macaroni and cheese. Brown hamburger and onion in a frying pan. Add beef boullion, cheese from from macaroni and cheese dinner, tomatoa soup, oregano, salt and pepper. Simmer. Stir in drained macaroni.

To serve next day ... stir in 1/2 can of tomato soup. Heat and serve.

  3. Farmer 'breaks' penis

A newly married Romanian farmer fractured his penis after ogling his young wife while carrying a heavy sack of grain.

Farmer Gheorghe Popa, 52, from Galati, had been moving the grain sacks to the barn when he stopped to watch his 25-year-old wife Loredana hang up the washing.

He got himself over excited and dropped the sack on his erect penis, snapping vital tendons and ligaments.

Doctor Nicolae Bacalbasa said: "It was a bizarre accident, and he was in a lot of pain.

"We have done what we can for him but he may never regain use of the organ again, at least for sexual purposes."

    Amorous cat burglar

A suspected cat burglar who was arrested in Holland turned out to be after nothing but love.

Lex Van de Krupp, 20, was caught red-handed trying to scale the wall of a house in Tilburg.

Police thought he was a burglar and arrested him - but it turned out he was the boyfriend of a girl living at the house.

He had been hoping to sneak into the 17-year-old's bedroom without her parents finding out.

The man was released later with a warning after he apologised to the girl's parents.

  4. Yes, because a number of adults can't see the overall affect their actions have on the community, our children have to pay the price.

There is a "Spring Fling" in the works for sometime in March or April, so at least they'll get something.

And princess7, thank you for your offer. I'll be sure to let others know when your festival is. (Too bad all of our neighbors can't be so considerate. )

  5. Thanks to all of the fuss going on the same date, the Fall Festival at Union Elementary has been canceled. Apparently there is enough concern over the marches/protests that will be taking place on Buchanan Highway that day, it was felt to be in the best interests of all to not have so many more people in the area. There will be a Spring Fling some time in March or April instead.

  6. My completely honest answer ... I would probably not buy daily use items from a bakery because of the simple cost factor. (That and the fact that my husband prefers Sun Beam for his sandwiches, go figure.) But you can be sure that any special event items would be purchased from a local bakery as well as the occasional treat and possibly lunch from tie to time, if offered.

  7. You might want to look into getting more water plants that will cover more of the surface of your pond. They help to reduce the sunlight that gets to the water and retards algae growth. You could also look into the algae retardants that blue the water. Same general idea ... reduces the amount of vital sunlight that penetrates the water.

  8. last night, as the gas frenzy came to a head, I stopped at the only station I could find that did not have a line.  Shell station in hiram off of Bobo rd  and the little cut through road that leads to some other road.  Indian owned Shell station.  $3.29 a gallon was a push, but all I needed was about 3-4 gallons to have a full tank.  Well, I pulled up to the pump and noticed a little sign that stated that all I could purchase $5 worth of gas.  1.5 gallons.  Maybe if I had more people in the car, I could have gotten more.

So I have to ask (and I know I'll get flamed for this by some) ... if you were only 3-4 gallons shy of a full tank, why were you stopping for gas last night?

  9. I HAD  to stop last night for gas...totally my fault for waiting until my gas light came on to get gas.  I stopped at the Citgo at Bobo and Macland and all they had left was Premium.  I pumped $10 of gas into my car...I know that's not a whole lot.  When I went inside to pay, the lady said to me,"Are you sure you only want to put $10 in?"  I replied that I only needed gas to get me home (off of Brooks rd.) and back to 92 and Dallas hwy in the morning.  Her reply back to me had me stunned.  She said,"Well don't come crying to me when we have no more gas tomorrow!"  I was shocked!  I told her that is was people like her that was causing this situation to worsen.

She and about 90% of the people in the lines yesterday afternoon and evening.

  10. Gov. Perdue acts to stop gas price gouging

Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue late Wednesday enacted a state law that prevents retailers from selling gas at an unreasonable or egregious price.

The law does not prevent price increases that accurately reflect an increase in the cost of the goods or services to the retailer, an increase in the cost of transporting the goods or services into the area, or an increase due to the market forces of supply and demand.

The Governor's Office said it has received today credible evidence that price gouging has occurred in parts of the state. "We will not tolerate the exploitation of Georgia consumers as we recover from the effects of Hurricane Katrina," said Perdue. "Violators of this price gouging statute will be punished to the fullest extent possible."
