  1. A newcomer came in yesterday and said... wow! 50 cents for kid's clothes and great quality! You can't beat that!

Another customer came in and compared our prices to the new store in Hiram... there is no comparison. We don't have the quantity, but we have quality of products and at least 1/2 of their prices!

We will be open Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 9-4:00! We have LOTS of kids and adult clothing that's come in this week! We've received LOTS of donations this week! We've gotten in a lot of 0 to 12 mo, 18 mo, 24 mo, 2T clothes for boys and girls, but have bigger sizes, too!!!! MANY of them are name brand items! They're only 50 cents each!!!!! We also have a LOT of adult clothing for $1.00!

I will have FREE clothing outside the store for the taking, especially for those who are displaced! PLEASE take the clothing if you need it, but leave what you don't need for someone who does... (having an issue with someone coming by and loading up their vehicle with it all and that's not the purpose of doing it...)

  2. Due to the outside venue and the forecast of rain the Downtown merchants are moving the yard sale one week to Sept. 26.

If you are in Dallas on Saturday most stores will be open so please stop in to see us and stop by Taylor's P.A.L.S.'s to check out their yard sale.

Next week we have the yard sale in the morning and the car show in the afternoon and evening.

I'm sorry y'all are having to postpone... The Paulding County Navigator Team of Parent to Parent of Georgia will still be having ours... it will be inside Taylor's P.A.L.S. Education Center if it rains... we have LOTS of great stuff! A lot of brand new stuff that would make great gifts! This is a fundraiser for our upcoming community service projects sponsored by the Paulding County Navigator Team of Parent to Parent of Georgia!

  3. Autism Speaks of Georgia is branching out into the communities of Georgia! I will be an Area Rep. for the organization in Paulding. What does this mean??? We will have a support base for more autism awareness, a support group, and fundraising efforts for research through Autism Speaks. Families of newly diagnosed children will have a local contact for information and can be referred for services/providers they might need. It will also mean that we can join forces to have a much larger team to participate in the Walk. If you are interested in ANY of this, please pm me....

    Support a Program

Autism Speaks’ programs fall into four major areas: Science; Family and Community Services; Advocacy; Awareness. You can direct your donation to one of these areas.*

Science - Autism Speaks is the leading non-governmental source of autism research support. We fund the very best scientists at leading research institutions. Our portfolio includes studies on the causes of autism: the biology of autism: improved diagnostics; and better therapies. Autism Speaks also manages targeted programs such as the Autism Genome Project; the Autism Treatment Network; and the Autism Genetic Resource Exchange.

Family and Community Services - Autism Speaks’ Family and Community Services Program augments the hundreds of local organizations across the country providing direct therapeutic and support services. We award grants to enable many of these organizations to provide additional services. We also produce resources such as the First 100 Days Kit (for newly diagnosed families); the School Community Took Kit (to help schools embrace children with autism); and the First Responders Tool Kit (to help police, firefighters, emergency technicians, and others to identify and assist individuals with autism in crisis situations).

Advocacy - Autism Speaks is working tirelessly to influence the federal government and state governments to enact policies to help families living with autism. The Combating Autism Act of 2006 is a landmark piece of legislation that provides $970 million over the next five years in federal support for research and services. Attention is now focused on insurance reform in each state. To date, eight states have passed laws requiring insurance companies to pay for autism-related therapy.

Awareness - Building awareness of autism is the key to early diagnosis and intervention, to rallying public support and passing legislation, and to raising money. The conerstone of Autism Speaks' awareness program is our ad campaign run in conjunction with the Ad Council, a no-profit agency that secures free print and electronic media space. Autism Speaks has since 2006 received tens of millions of dollars in free advertising. But funding is needed to produce quality ad materials. Autism Speaks' website also fall under the awareness program. The website provides vital information for the entire autism community.

  4. We're still looking for Buddies..... we are starting our collection of children's books on disabilities and would love to have some Library Buddies to help us! I will be posting a list of what we have available soon.... trying to get all the developmental toys processed and hope to do that this weekend.

  5. I received a message from a child's parent I work with a couple of days ago. Her co-worker's 17 year old... very healthy son... became sick three days prior to this date and had died that night of swine flu. There may be a lot of hype... but it's also VERY real.... I'm sure this family never saw it coming or thought it would happen to them.... so sad....

  6. Nicholas... I've yet to understand why some folks feel the need to be ugly. I didn't see the post... don't want to see the post, and don't understand why some people take pleasure in degrading others.... It's a shame that some people are so miserable within themselves, they have to try to spread their sarcasm and misery. I appreciate all you've done to go the extra mile to learn how to work with special needs children and your involvement in the community.... keep on keeping on.... Rise above the ugly....

  7. If you get overwhelmed with IEPs and need a hand, give me a shout. You would be disgusted with the IEPs I got this year.....unclear goals, no clear accommedations, obvious "cut and paste" goals (he/she...two student's names in IEP from bad paste job), LRE for TEACHER not STUDENT....

I've already invested several hours this week talking to parents and trying to make them right, but if parents know UP FRONT then THEY can advocate for their child instead of deferring to the "expertise" of the teacher.

Are you going to offer advocacy services?

Sorry to hear about this, but unfortunately... not surprised! I will remember you! Yes, I will be offering advocacy services... already started! :) A lot of what I do is "ghost writing"... which is working with parents to help prepare them for meetings and reviewing IEP's to make sure parents understand what's in them. I think I am objective though in most circumstances... I've been on both sides of the table and try to bring balance. It's when I KNOW that there are issues that haven't been addressed and the "professionals" know better that I get ill....

  8. Please let your friends know with special needs children that we are here to help them! We have several FREE workshops coming up and want to get the word out! Please have them e-mail me at taylorspals@hotmail.com

  9. Library Buddies! A Library Buddy is someone (adult or child) that donates a book to the library.. either a book for parents to read about different disabilities.... or a book written for children to read about a specific disability! Children's books promote acceptance of differences in children. There are a lot of great books on the market and very reasonably priced on e-bay or amazon.com. This would be a great community service project for your child and he/she would have his/her name placed on a donation sticker in front of the book. Another possibility would be used toys that would have some educational or developmental usage to them... or used therapy equipment or items!

If you would like to sponsor a book... these are some that I've been looking at. They are very easy reads for parents:

Everything Parent's Guide to Children with OCD... Bipolar....Dyslexia... Juvenile Diabetes... Anxiety...ADD/ADHD.... Autism....Depression....Asthma....Special Needs...Asperger's...Overweight Child (There's a series of them)

    or...

    Children with.. Autism...Tourette Syndrome...Spina Bifida....Fragile X Syndrome...Cerebral Palsy....Traumatic Brain Injury....Visual Impairment.... Mental Retardation.....Epilepsy (another series)

If your child would like to be a Library Buddy, please contact me and I'll be glad to find a book that your child would like to donate. This would also be a great way to honor a special needs child in your life!

Most books can be found in very good or new condition for $10.00 or less...

Thank you for any help you can give.... We will have an Appreciation Day for our Library Buddies later in the year.....

If you have any questions, please let me know!

    Thank you!

    Thanks!

  11. I am sorry for being stupid about this but are you testing students who are behind and may need further tutoring or only offering an assistance to explain one's IEP information in more detail?

This assistance is to help parents know what the IEP says... determine if appropriate services are being offered... and to make suggestions if needed. Stay tune ... I'm about to announce a tutoring program!!! :)

  12. This is awesome! I hoave talked to quite a few people who have sat through IEP meetings and didn't have much of an idea what was being talked about or what is in their child's IEP. I have even talked to some parents who usually do not attend their child's IEP meetings because they said they felt like they didn't know most of what was being discussed. I hope some people are able to take advantage of this service if they need it. :clapping: :good:

We are making an effort to educate parents on all kinds of issues. We will be offering a series of FREE workshops through Paulding County's Navigator Team that will teach all about parent's rights.... how to write IEP goals based on the need of the child... navigating the system... and so much more. These will start after the first of the new year. :)

On the first Thurs. night in November, the Paulding Count Navigator Team will be offering another FREE workshop on Special Needs Wills & Trust. More information will be coming in the weeks ahead... but mark your calendars now! :)

This is an awesome service you are providing.

    Thank you! :)

  13. Do you wonder if your child is getting the services he/she really needs? Do you sometimes wonder what services your child is getting? Do you know what the I.E.P. really says?
