  1. OK folks, this is very simple.

If I like what the money is being spent for and it benefits me, then it is neither wasteful nor extravagant, no matter what it is.

If it does not benefit me and I do not like or agree with how the money is being spent, then it is most certainly wastful and extravagant and those who voted for it should have bamboo shoots driven under their nails, be shot, drawn & quarted, boiled in oil and shipped to Detroit.

But then that is just the kind of person I am, always thinking of others.

  2. Please read entire post.

I had never ate at the Dugout before.

I just had their wings for the 1st time.

Didn't know about the $0.50 special so I paid regular price.

Was not to thrilled to learn about the .50 special from a friend who saw it here on P.com.

At this point I had not had a chance to eat the wings I had bought and brought home. (work intervined)

I called David at the Dugout and he advised that the .50 special was offered to P.com users and a some others and you need to ask for it.

While I understood David's explanation, I was still a little unhappy.

    Then I ate my wings.

My unhappiness disappeared with each bite.

All I can say is WOW. BEST wings I have ever ate.

Worth every penny I paid and more.

I will be a customer from now own at the special p.com price or at regular price.

I saved 15 for my wife and when she tries them, I will have no problem getting her to agree to "wing night" at the Dugout.

  3. Hmmm. I grew up in West Texas with LOTS of Hispanic friends --probably a few of them illegally in the U.S. Most are hard working people. You know what? How about we trade? One amnesty for every working illegal for one lazy, do-nothing, "entitled" citizen? I just got back from a meeting with a friend who's neighbor (four or five adults and maybe one child living together) bragged about getting over $50,000 back collectively from fraudulently filed tax returns. AND they get food stamps, Medicaid, etc. One of them was bragging about it! I make a motion we trade for the Mexican citizen who just wants a chance to WORK and provide for his family--no entitlements required.

Oh...and about illigals not paying taxes? From what I see in the accounting business, a great many of them do pay into Social Security and Medicare with absolutely zero chance of ever getting anything back.

    Hmmmm.

Break into my home and you stand a good chance of getting shot.

Break into my country and you stand a good chance of getting WIC and support from ... well people who I guess think breaking the law is ok.

Ever try buying land in Mexico, a US citizen can't buy land there.

They can get a long term lease but they can't buy it.

  4. With the possible exception of George Washington, I don't know of an American politician who has not been called crooked by the opposition party ... beginning with Thomas Jefferson and ending with ... Barak Obama.

And, for the record, I'm no fan of Huey Long's or any of the Long's for that matter. I actually thought of him because I had mentioned Darryl Glasscock, who was reported to be an illegitimate kid with ties to that Louisiana clan ... I once referred to him in a short story as Darryl Short as I parodied the Robinson campaign.

Just as there are admirers and detractors of folks like Ty Cobb, to name a polarizing figure in baseball, one need not fawn over a personality to cite them as an example.

Lyndon Johnson was cited, btw, not because I'm a fan of Lyndon, but rather the record of his literally herculean efforts to make it good as a politician from the high country in Texas as detailed by Robert A. Caro - specifically his first book on Johnson called "the Path to Power". I would recommend that 1000 page tome to anyone of either party as a description of how a driven, ambitious person defines the job of public servant in such a manner that they work it into a plan to literally know everyone in a congressional district or state by their first name, who their kids are and what tragedies they endure.

You may not like what LBJ did after reaching the Senate in the early 1950s but what he did in the 30's especially ought to inspire anyone interested in retail politics. That I read Caro's first book on Johnson in 1990 when it came out simply shows that this is a topic of interest of mine. (That was also about the same time I became acquainted with Nathan Dean so the association there was strong.)

PS: Do know that my degree was in history and political science and I've read somewhat extensively in the field.

A few thoughts come to mind.

    1. LBJ and Long were not only accused by their opponents of being crooks, it is a fact that has been proven over time and to my knowledge no respected historian says otherwise.

    2. I always love it when people read the white part between the black words and decide "this is what they really meant instead of what they wrote".

Not sure where I wrote that I did not like LBJ but I guess you too are one of those who have the power to read minds. (if your responce is that you can read minds, I would check with Mr. James to see how that worked for him)

    3. My last thought concerns an old saying, "a bit dog barks:.

I sure hear a a lot of yapping.

By the way, congrats on your degree, I understand that was the only one of it's type ever given and that no one else reads. Oh wait, maybe not.

  5. I am not going to lie, I had never heard of Huey Long, but after looking him up I see what you mean about his questionable Tenure. However from what I read Pubby was not incorrect in his view that Huey Long was very devoted to his campaigns and very up front with citizens about his views. I believe this was the point of the gentlemen that he was focusing on in the comparisons to Mr. Dean.

I met Mr. Dean a few different times in public and I have to agree he was one of the most approachable politicians I have ever met.

Politicians such as Boss Twead and crooks such as John Dillinger, Pretty Boy Floyd and Al Capone were all very approachable to the public and hard working at what they did, but they were all still crooked.

That said, I do not apply any of the above to Mr. Dean and I agree that being approachable is something that more of our public servants should work on.

I understood Pubby's point but was just suprised (or maybe not so surpised) at his choices of examples.

  6. When I first went to vote after I moved to Paulding in '93, after living in Cobb, Cherokee then Cobb again; I told the lady at the courthouse (I was voting absentee) that I had just moved to Paulding and didn't know which crook I should vote for as I hadn't been around long enough to know which crook was my crook.

She asked what in the world I meant by that.

I explained that it was my belief that most politicians were crooks, but if they were "my crook" it was ok. (I was joking....somewhat)

After thinking that over she said, you know there may be a lot of truth to that.

Over the years and in the 3 counties I have lived in, I have seen very little to change my thoughts from that day.

  7. Putting a question mark at the end of an accusation doesn't necessarily make it a question. What's the trucking question?

    From Doraville's post:

Did this happen or did it not?

Ummm, it has been a long time since grammer school, but as best as I can remember THAT is a question.

But then again, I try and read the black words and not what I think is in the white spaces between them.

  8. Just so everyone is aware, Mr. Rountree ran against Bill Heath in a previous race and tried (unsuccessfully) to make "genital piercing" a major issue in the race. I believe that Pubby supported Mr. Rountree.

The issue at hand, or at least the title of this thread, is Mr. Carruth. Allow me to repost my questions from earlier in this thread:

    1.
    2. While Chairman of the Paulding County Board of Commissioners, Bill Carruth used his inside knowledge of plans to build the "Bill Carruth Parkway" to have his father in-law buy up property on Egg Farm Rd at a fraction of the price of what it would ultimately be worth? He basically used his position to profiteer on the county's business?
    3. He defaulted on a $2.1M loan that the FDIC is now suing him in order to try to recover?
    4. He tried to pull a fast one by claiming that he lives in a $100K home inside District 31 instead of his million dollar mansion which is outside Ditrict 31 and he hopes that the residences of the district won't notice or won't mind because he's a "Paulding County Boy"?

Did this happen or did it not? I don't know about the other two, but I believe that third one is a felony.

I have noticed that logic, facts and straight forward questions rarely get a straight forward, logical and factual responce.

I do not know the answers to your questions, but I thought they were good questions.
