  1. Paulding airport director Blake Swafford said his board’s out-of-county retreat was necessary, because it was “the only way (to) capture everyone’s attention, and keep them focused and keep them in the room.” Had the retreat been held in Paulding, he said, board members would be “running all day long in and out” to handle other business.

Was there a quorum that existed in Blake's meeting?

Let me see if I understand this correctly.

Blake Swafford said that the people who are duly elected to do a job, CANNOT BE COUNTED ON TO DO SAID JOB, UNLESS YOU LOCK THEM UP AWAY FROM THEIR HOMES?

They can't even be expected to stay "in the room" when dealing with something this major??

It sounds to me like Blake Swafford is saying the people who are wanting the commercialization of the airport don't even have enough attention span to know what they are for or against.

Sad sad sad, when someone has to be locked in a room, out of town, in order to get them to do the job they were elected and paid to do.

(Oh yeh, the job they wanted and begged for)

The more these guys talk, the more I learn towards this airport deal being a bad idea.

  2. I came away with some questions I will be researching. Maybe you can direct me in the right direction.

Just to start... I actually have 40+ questions, here are those dozen or so questions at the top of my list.

A study was quoted stating it would take about $2.8 + Billion to convert our airport from General Avàtion to Commercial.

    • Who is AMACS?

    • Do they have credibility?

    • Are there other study's available?

Six Mile Poison Ring was mentioned.

    • Who did this study?

    • Are there study's to refute or confirm this study?

Potential Impact Approach Zone is shown on the handout?

    • 4 rings show up in an oval shape, what are they?

    • What is the gray shaded area on the right?

    • Is Mary & Bob's home in this shaded area?

The 2 day retreat was mentioned.

    • Did I hear the contractors & engineers were at this meeting?

    • Did I see "Sunshine Law" within an email shown on the screen?

    • Did I hear there are attachments showing the terminal layout after renovation?

The handout states 3,000 to 20,000 jobs by 2020 have been promised.

    • How many actual jobs are forecast?

I will be talking to my Post Commissioner in an effort to qualify or refute each bullet point on the handout.

For me this was time well spent preparing me to be a better informed voter for years to come.

I am open to sit down with anyone to respectfully discuss each item listed on the handout.

I especially enjoyed meeting people who recently just found out we have an airport, 1 a long lost friend that I had no idea lives within a mile of the runway. Meeting new people and respectfully discussing local, state, federal and world wide issues makes me happy.

    Hey Skippy.

    Still working on the answers?

    Inquiring minds want to know.

"We elected our BOC to do a job, based on their campaign platforms."

NO...We actually VOTED for and these folks were elected to do the job BASED ON THEIR ABILITIES, and QUALIFICATIONS!! Many times issues change and opportunities open themselves up that may not have been there 6 months or a year or more ago. The folks handling our County business have to be able to revisit opportunity and make decisions based on their knowledge and ability to do so. Most of these folks are business owners and have learned thru the years how to do this...again I don't think it would matter how they handled things to the STOP ALL PROGRESS IN PAULDING group.

    you funny

  4. Honestly but if I thought the airport expansion was TRULY going to hurt the overall good of our citizens, I would join you; however I think the airport expansion is going to do great things for our county.

I will continue to support the PRO airport group as I can sincerely say they have the best interests of our county and it's citizens at heart. While I always appreciate others "working for their cause", I would hope they understand the group supporting the airport expansion is simply doing the same thing.

I personally have never had a doubt that was your position and that you are doing what you think is best for the county.

  5. Here's where the rubber hits the road. The ones who know Todd know he is an honorable man.

Lengthy but I will tell you how he cared for me and another family.

My Mom moved here from SC in 1996.

My Mom died July 20, 2007.

My daughter cleaned house for Todd & his wife. My daughter recommended I list my mothers house with Todd.

Me being greedy I listed the house with a broker in New Hope who suggested a really high selling price.

The house sat till the summer of 2008 (after the market collapsed).

In the fall I listed the house with Todd.

At Christmas we heard a story from the stage at church of a father who had went to jail, while in jail his wife lost custody of the 2 kids, when the father got out the mother died. The father got his life together and got the kids back. He was living in a rented trailer. A group of guys at church adopted this family the Christmas before. A year later this father had joined the group and was helping to support another family. They ended the talk on stage mentioning the plan was to get the family out of the trailer park that year.

Todd came to me at church and suggested I rent Mom's house to this family. I did not want to be a landlord but Todd kept working on me. We ended up doing a lease purchase for 3-1/2 years then sold the house to the family. Todd waived his commissions so the single father could afford the home.

When we sold the house to the single father I realized more than the original price when I added the rental profit to the sale price. I tried to pay Todd the commission but he refused it. He had promised this contribution to help the father and felt getting it back was wrong.

During the lease purchase our daughter died suddenly. Todd was one of the first people at our door step to care for us.

Todd loves this county and the people he serves.

I'm wondering if you plan to run? If so, run on your own merits. People like me are turned off by mud slinggers.

I personally know of a lot that Todd has done to help many people who have had troubles.

I have been blessed to have been asked by him to be a very small part of a very few of these things.

I also know that he has done these things without any fanfare or, as far as I am aware, ever letting people know what he has done or been a part of doing.

I also know that he has put other people in touch with someone needing help without any personal reward or looking for thanks.

An example of this is a family that is struggling, the father has the knowledge, ability and tools to do small repairs on cars.

I have personally seen Todd mention to someone needing brakes replaced to try ask this father about doing the work. Thus bringing extra money to the needy family, while also helping the person who needed brakes. Two people helped by one thoughtful suggestion.

I am not one that thinks Todd walks on water, he is a human being like the rest of us.

Fallible and subject to the same faults as the rest of the population.

However, I have never seen anything that would lead me to believe that Todd is anything but a good person who's word can be trusted as much as anyone one else's word, perhaps more than most.

I could be total wrong, I could have totally misread the man, I could have been totally fooled.

Or he could be a good guy most of the time but have hidden agendas and major faults that I am unaware of.

But as of this moment, I have no reason to disbelieve anything Todd says or doubt his character.

ETA I also know Surepip and Mrs.Surepip.

I have nothing but nice things to say about both.

Whatever Surepip's issues are with the county they have nothing to do with him being a good or bad guy.

I think we all would be a little bitter if we felt that we were dealt a bad hand in a crooked poker game, regardless of if others see it that way or not.

I know surepip to be a good man and his wife to be a great lady.

(like myself, I think surepip got real lucky in the wife department)

  6. Your 25 to 30 votes out of one Post will in no way effect the overall vote totals for the election, especially since the majority of you live in Todd's Post anyway and would have already voted for him!!!

Soooooo, is the Paulding County 6 (or 5 or 25) now up to 30?

PAULDING COUNTY TRAFFIC ALERT!!! ---> AVOID the 1200 Block of Jimmy Campbell Pkwy in West Paulding on Saturday Morning February 8th from 9:30 to 10:30 AM as so many volunteers are expected for the STOP PROGRESS IN PAULDING RALLY that both EAST and WEST bound traffic gridlock is expected. Parking will be an issue and be watchful of the tractor trailer traffic as Coffee and Donuts are being delivered to support the crowds.

    ROTFLMAA!!!

Perhaps bus service would help that problem.

    Maybe Marta?

  8. I had just gotten back into town last Thursday night, I had unpacked and had the house lite up from one end to the other. (with the lights on in the house, including the light in the garage)

It was 8:30pm and I had just settled down on the throne, when I heard a light knocking at the front door.

The poodle and the bulldog started their barking and I went to answer the door.

I had to be at the door in less than 60 seconds, but there was no one there.

I walked outside and saw no one around, I even yelled a couple of times.

I went back in and quickly slipped on my shoes, grabbed my mag light and went back out, I could see no one on the streets or anywhere. (we live on a corner lot)

I was confused because there wasn't enough time for someone to get out of sight under normal circumstances.

I went next door and asked if they had seen anything and they advised that a young guy had knocked on their door trying to sell magazines.

While I do not know that he was up to no good, I did find it strange that he knocked so lightly when almost every room in the house had a light on, including the garage, and why he didn't ring the doorbell, why he didn't wait for the door to get answered and where he disappeared to so quickly.

Also, going door to door selling magazines at 8:30pm seems a little late.

He better watch out at our house, the bulldog will let loose a poot of terrific force and stink, while the poodle will piddle on him. (why not? he piddles on everything else)

  9. Now this kind of stuff does make me excited enough to go after someone.

In my day, the worst we did was take home for sale signs and put them in someone's yard.

Yeh it was stupid and yeh it was wrong, but we were 13 or 14 and the signs were all from near by, so it wasn't like they couldn't find them.

(yes, I am trying to justify my wrong doing from 40 odd years ago)

    :(

  10. While i didn't know Mrs. Nelson or to my knowledge any of her family.

I have to say that I wish I had.

She certainly sounds like she was a wonderful lady and anyone who plays the piano at their own 102 birthday has to be someone that was a joy to know.

A belated Happy 102 Birthday to Mrs. Nelson and my sympathies are with her family during this time of loss.

  11. I will be the first to say that as far as the ins and outs of how the airport will affect those around it and how successful it can or will be, I have no clue.

I do know that with major business deals keeping things on QT can be a major part of getting the deal done.

So I cannot have an informed opinion on whether the county commissioners have served the people and county of Paulding well with the airport deal.

    But I do know this.

If you have this much controversy over who knew what and when.

If you have the general public feeling that they do not have a voice in what goes on in their community and with their elected officials, then you as the elected officials have done something wrong somewhere.

Whether it is with the deal itself, whether it is in keeping silent with some elected officials or whether it is in the way that you presented to deal to the public and/or the way that you have treated said public who have questions about the deal; somewhere along the line, you screwed up.

Since we all screw up at one time or another, I suggest that the elected officials do what we try and teach our kids to do when they screw up.

Admit what you screwed up, ask for forgiveness for the mistake and try and do it right from now on.

If they refuse to admit that mistakes were made, and again I have do not know exactly what and where the mistakes were, then their is a bigger problem.

Because when people refuse to admit a mistake, they will continue to make these same mistakes over and over again.

To repeat myself, why do I think mistakes were made somewhere along the line.

Because if there were no mistakes made, you may have some who are not happy with the deal, but you wouldn't have the commissioners "fighting" in public, you wouldn't have a large portion of the people saying they feel the elected officials do not care what they want and last but certainly not least, it wouldn't be news worthy for the local TV.

(and that is taking into account the fact that I have little respect for what the local news channels consider news worthy)
