  1. Here's an inexpensive way to get your lawn off to a great start this Spring:

Fill a hose-end sprayer half full of ammonia and half full of beer and water your lawn. This mixture is good for 2,500 square feet of your yard. So, depending on how big your lawn is, this will probably cover most of your front or back yard.

The ammonia gives the grass nitrogen which makes it greener. The yeast in the beer helps decompose the thatch (the build-up of dead grass and roots that prevents new growth).

Wow, thank you. I had never heard that, and our lawn is pitiful!! The people who lived here before never mowed, there are bare patches, and lots of weeds. Its not purdy. So what happens if you use the ammonia for the lawn and drink the beer? :drinks: :D

  2. :clapping: Woohoo!!

BTW: I did get your message yesterday, but work was so crazy, I had forgotten you had called until 10 last night! Sorry. Wanna meet next week sometime?

ETA: This is my 1000th post!!!!

  3. Regardless of whether or not anyone from PCOM wants his job...He wanted it. He took the job, and should have done it. I have chosen what I want to do in life, and I do my job to the best of my ability without doing sneaky and possibly illegal things. So its okay to say "Ah heck, nobody else wants to do this job, so I can do whatever I want. I can get my rocks off because someone wants funding for a project, and I can use my power for the good of myself. I know I'm supposed to be doing good for the people, but as long as I dont have anyone standing in line for my job, I can do what I want."

I dont think its good when people think they cant be replaced. I dont care what job you get hired for, you are supposed to do the best you can, no matter who you are.

People make mistakes, and they pay for their mistakes, as Mr. Richardson is now.

  4. No kids and is here in the Dallas area which isn't too far from Yorkville.

Thank you. I will definately keep her in my thoughts. I could use someone to watch the kids every now and again (lived here 3 1/2 years and havnt had one yet  ). If I can ever manage to get out..I will contact you.

  5. Someone has lost a job that I know here in the Dallas area.

She can help clean house, babysit, work in yards, run errrands or help elderly with errands, etc. to keep her going while she looks for another job. She is being laid off from IBM and she is single with no other income. Keep an ear and eye out for her as well as prayers.

Any leads, send me a PM.

    Thank you.

I'm so sorry to hear that. Does she have children? Is she close to Yorkville?

  6. Have you read "The Shack"?

It's a fiction book but has some good lessons in life!

I loved it as well. I was actually thinking of trying to mail my copy to the Mom of the Somer Thompson in Florida....you just never know how it would be taken though, and I wouldnt want to upset her any more than she already is.

  7. I am tired of giving stuff to the various BIG charities just to catch a tax break and later hearing horror stories of misuse of funds , super high salaries of execs, etc. I want to know where my "stuff" is going and feel it is really going to someone who is hard-working and has just come up on hard times.

I don't want to be giving to the "professional" welfare folks who work the system. That may sound hard-hearted, but it is what it is!!

These people deserve all the help they can get...they are victims.

My feelings exactly. Thrift stores are very overpriced. I thought Salvation Army was supposed to be for vicitms, until I visited a store and was shocked at the prices. I have donated, in person, to people in need at Christmas, but refuse to drop money in the bucket.

  8. Ya know, I've been wanting to tell you all this. I moved here 3 years ago from the north, and haven't been extremely sick yet. Up there, we would get violently ill every January/February where a double sided toilet would have come in handy LOL! I think the air is so dry there, that the viruses can survive and grow more. I would recommend a humidifier to help stop the spread in your house. I havn't heard anything from my kids at their school, but my co-workers wife had it. She was sick for about 5 days, just very achy. Went to the doctors, tested positive and started feeling better 2 days later.

  9. I hope the driver is okay. I have been a dispatcher for 11 years and had to deal with this at the seen. The first thought by a lot of people is that the driver fell asleep which is too bad.these guys have an extremely hard job. With a company like this I'm sure they were following all regulations. It isn't hard for the load to shift if the driver swerved to miss another car. 45000 pounds can make the truck go in any direction.

  10. Wow! I always hated working with women! She sounds like my 9 year old on an extremely bad day! I didn't realize they legalized child labor. Tell her to go back to 3rd grade! Sorry that happened. An uncomfortable work environment always makes for a crappy day.

  11. I have had similar problems along with a herniated disc. I hurt it so bad I could not even get out of bed. After a few days I went to a pain management doc that gave me a steroid shot directly in the inflamed area of my back and it improved pretty fast. It often aches though. I want to try a chiropractor and hope it never gets that bad again. Hope you are feeling better soon!
