"Founding Father of Union Volunteer Fire Department dies. Mr. Robert Marvin Hartley, of Temple Georgia, passes at age 80. Mr. Hartley helped start the station on February 6, 1976. Union Volunteer Fire became part of Paulding County Fire & Rescue in 1980. Friends say Mr. Hartley was a very energetic man and inspirational to the station's growth. At one point, he purchased a fire truck with his own money.
Visitation & Services will be held Tuesday, August 16th and details can be found here: http://www.memorialsolutions.com/sitemaker/sites/BENSON1/memsol.cgi?user_id=1840145
Paulding County Fire & Rescue's Honor Guard will be participating in the tribute to Mr. Hartley."

  2. This is my uncle. He has been around for more of my life than my own father. He was a very good hearted man who would help anyone he could and had a wonderful laugh. His volunteer time with a fire department was when I was a little girl he spent a lot of time with the Union (Rose's Store) Volunteer Fire Dept. where I believe he was an assistant chief. He trained many firemen back then. Hershey's chocolate cakes made by my MawMaw Hartley and back road rides with Aunt Nell and Uncle Marvin are favorite memories of my childhood. We will miss you Uncle Marvin.

  3. I am oh so happy this didn't happen! Wellstar's rating would have pulled Emory's down. It would not have been a good move for Emory. I would rather drive into Atlanta to see a competent Emory physician or a specialist who is an Emory graduate. I am not the only one as many of my friends who see a specialist/s on a regular basis also feel this way.

  4. The last time I took 92 N out of Douglasville was a few years ago on the 4th of July. I was coming home from the Douglasville mall to East Paulding and I had completely forgotten about the fireworks starting at dark in Hiram. It took me 2 hours! I haven't been to Douglasville since! I can be an avid shopper, so I am missing out on using their mall. I lived about 5-7 miles from the mall area back when they were using dynamite to develop it in 98'. I moved from that area back to Paulding when I finished attending Carroll Tech. It was just too busy for me!

  5. Too bad they can't keep the skeevy piece of crap in jail. He will be back out too soon, and the next step is rape.

    Scumbag.

Rhonda, this is exactly what worries me. Yes, he could very well be the type of person who simply prefers an audience, or the woods, but what if he is the type to escalate his behavior looking for a bigger thrill? I knew when I seen his mugshot that he looked familiar but I couldn't figure out from where I might have seen him. When his address was posted I realized I might have seen him at the local Publix. As it turns out he lives in what seems might be his parents home 4 or so doors down from our backyard neighbor! He's on a different street from me, but that is too close for my comfort. Things like this makes me even more thankful for the loaded guns I keep around the house, just in case. Hopefully we will be building a new home and moving in 2-3 years as I am having a lot of problems with the stairs.

  6. My mom said that when she was a teen and everyone cruised around the courthouse square that they would put a roll of toilet paper on his hand. That would have probably been in the mid 60s. I have grown up in Paulding not ever seeing a hand, so yes to me it looks weird with a hand. For some reason I thought the original hand had the fingers curled slightly?

  8. She is getting mace. She use to laugh at me when I made her carry it,but she is going to be carrying it again! Thank you!

CakeLady, just wanted to let you know in case you weren't aware but self defense sprays may differ in their "pepper strength" and/or types. They all should also have an expiration date. This one is my favorite because it is a 3-N-1 spray. It has a pepper spray, a military grade tear gas, and a UV dye so that the attacker can be identified with a UV light when in custody. This particular model is small enough to fit in my pants pocket and also has a "quick release" key loop so that it may be attached to a purse or key ring. Mine has an expiration sticker on the side. When it expires, then you can just replace the canister with a refill canister that fits inside the same holder/sleeve. It's great to have with me when I can't carry my firearm. It also comes in several COLORS! biggrin.gif

SABRE carries many other styles and sizes of defense sprays if you care to shop. I have been there many times and wish your daughter the best of luck.

  9. This was my first cousin's home that had the tape around it. The home across the street is his parents and some of my other relatives also live on that land, which had belonged to my grandfather and greatgrandfather. From what I understand my cousin had been having problems in his marriage for quite some time and he took his own life. No one expected it and there is no history in my family of anyone doing this. We buried him Tuesday the 17th. Please keep his wife, 3 children, mother, father and sister in your prayers as they all will have a long road ahead of them. Thank you and God bless.
