  1. This will be interesting to follow. I don't care if the Mayor made this call during the course of his duties. I just care that he made it at all. How childish. I sure wish I lived in Dallas, but then again I don't.

Yes, this is so childish. I would have never thought he would do such a thing. Shame

on you, Mr. Austin, I know your Mother and Father taught you better.

  2. First post for me.

But this thread took a wierd turn.

I cannot understand how anyone can justify take home cares for ANY county employee. (other than one on actual emergency call that must respond to issues at night quickly)

It does not matter what they get paid. Things change as the hundreds of people out of work, out of their homes and out of hope can attest to. Gas prices are through the roof and the county still thinks it is a good idea to have how many employees take home a vehicle?

There is absolutely no reason why an entire department like the Marshals should have take home cars. How can this not be a problem to all tax payers? I am so surprised.

How many employees have take home cars or trucks home? How many jobs could it have saved if they were parked? How much money would be saved?

Seem like common sense questions to me.

Welcome to Paulding, com. You know alot of people don't have common sense anymore. They think as

long as they have a degree, that is it. No, if you don't have common sense to go along with it.

  3. If you have a $200K home your property tax savings due to SPLOST will be a minimum $237 @ the existing mil of 2.963. The tax write off if you are in the 25% tax bracket will be $59.25. Now, stick with me here, If SPLOST failed the millage rate would be 3.588, meaning that you would be paying $287 in taxes, making the tax deduction a virtual wash at a 25% marginal tax rate or below.

Now using the figures above, you would have to spend $22,775 in Paulding county on retail items other than food in order to pay the same in taxes, even considering the tax deduction. What this means is that most folks will be far better off with the sales tax.

But wait......there's more.....you can deduct your sales taxes from your Federal Taxes using the IRS Sales Tax Deduction Calculator to figure the amount. Here's an example: CeeJay makes $50k per year and lives in Hiram Georgia and claims 2 deductions on her 1040 form. She would be able to write off $697 in state and local sales tax for 2009. And guess what....that tax deduction is based on the county you live in, not the county where you buy your items, so you get to not only avoid the extra penny sales tax altogether if you shop elsewhere, but you get a bump in your deductions without even paying the tax. Sweet.

So you see Ceejay, people might not be as stupid as you think. Some people will wind up paying more, but the majority will wind up paying somewhat less due to the SPLOST.

    THANK YOU

  4. Clark holds the EMS zone and I do not believe any contract is required between it and the county. Clark simply has to staff 1 ALS unit to cover the zone. That's it.

In an effort to help Clark provide a higher level of service and care, the county has provided funds over the past 5 years or so. It is not designated for indigent care nor is the county billed for deadbeats that can't/won't pay.

It is very simple. Provide independent audit of the business and then additional subsidy, if warranted, can be discussed.

I have requested RLS data from the state and we'll get to see if we have realized any ROI from the subsidy.

Please tell me how one ambulance could cover the entire county. I think Sam might like for you to

tell him too, This could have been in the 50s and 60s, but no way now. He is required to have 4, but

thought he would do us a favor, and add another one. I think he us trying to cover the county.

  5. I couldn't participate in the poll because I was unable to answer all the questions about who I am voting for.

I do however intend to vote YES on SPLOST. I have to say had I made my decision just on what was being said on P.com I may have voted NO but I attended two meeting where it was presented and discussed and I feel like it is a no-brainer.

Thank you, I hope a lot of other voters see it this way.

  6. I do not believe the county is responsible for all indigent care. I do recall line items in the budget for "indigent care" maybe for the hospital and/or EMS service, but I don't think the county would be required to pick up the tab once the budgeted item is used up. The responsible payers normally pick up the slack of deadbeats, right?

With any business you have to plan on dealing with people that do not pay their bills. The county has provided a subsidy to help Clark provide good service. It is obvious that they are having money problems due to deadbeats per the interview given my Mr. Clark.

I just don't think it is my (taxpayer) responsible to help them out until I know where the last $400,000 (and all the previous years too) went.

If it is established that the company is doing all they are able to do, have effective cost cutting measures in place, effective manpower usage (out sourcing billing, for instance) and still can't stay affloat without an increased subsidy, then I will support it.

I don't if you know it, but Keith Puckett, Steves brother, was director of Clarks, until he was fired

last week. Looks like this should have happened a long time ago. Yes Cobb pays a poetion of the

indigent care, so why should Paulding not pay? Have you really check to see what the other counties

are paying? I think Sam may get out of this mess. Had he had a Director that cared, H might not be in

    this mess.

Just yesterday they had a wreck with 5 injured, this took 2 ambulances, they called Puckett. Later in t day Clark had to help Puckett. I won't say with what. This happens all the time. Somtimes they go to

    Harrelson county to help them.
