  1. 67 Vette?? Why did you sell it, other to me?

Dave, it was a frame off restored original 435 car with only 33K miles on it. It was so valuable I just couldn't hang on to it. I spent 1/2 the proceeds on a new 2005...so, financially, a pretty good decision. I do miss it! It really was a head turner, and, it was a rocket.

  2. Drop by the cruise in tonight or bring your car and display it with the rest of us. I'll be there in a 2003 Black Mercury Marauder. If you have never seen one of these beauties, drop by and say hello.

    Runs from 5ish to dusk.

On the square and on the neighboring streets. It's not just for old cars. If it were, I'd be in trouble since I sold the 67 Vette several months ago. Works in progress are OK. Just come, sit and enjoy. Think of it as an informal car show.

In the courthouse sqaure and environs. It's a great way to spend a Saturday evening.

  4. I haven't found out anything yet. Last night was a hectic night and I didn't get a chance to get it Auto Zone. I do know to check the transmission fluid when it is running, and it is fine. I am hoping to get it somewhere tomorrow. It just drives me crazy not knowing!  So hopefully I will have an answer soon. I did crank it up last night and the engine still seems like its about to JUMP out from under the hood and keeps lunging. I think it wants a NEW HOME!! OH, NO!! :o

I have been really good to it too, oil changed every 3,000 miles good gas in it. What else could it have been looking for to desert me in such a way?!?!? :(

I would strongly recommend not driving the car the way it is. Don't know where you live, but if you are close to Dallas Hwy/Lost Mountain area, I'd be glad to take a look at it this afternoon.

  5. I did clean the stick and stuck it back in 3 times after cleaning it each time to make sure it was accurate. The timing chain/belt has been replaced so has the fuel pump about 3 months ago. That was what surprised me with the oil because it was right on the full mark on Saturday.

Sounds like you have a bad head gasket. My guess is that you have coolant in the pan and that has raised the oil level on the stick. Do you see any oil in the coolant resevoir or has the level of coolant dropped significantly?

Whatever the problem, it needs to be corrected quickly or it will get much worse.

  6. My son has just locked his keys in his Ford Explorer, does anyone know how to get into the truck. This sounds crazy but he doesnt have another key, does the sheriff's dept still help with that?

I doubt that the police will do this for you. If there is no hurry, call a locksmith on Monday and have one come out. They can do it.

It is possible to open the door using a hanger. You have to be careful not to damage the window and the paint. PM me and I will describe what to do.

  7. Oh what a feeling.  I love my Toyota

I saw a Toyota on fire at the side of the highway about four weeks ago. I'll bet the owner wasn't singing about any great feelings. I own a Mercury and it delivers more than I could get from any Toyota.

I am not sure how a simple switch could cause a fire, but this could happen in any vehicle, built anywhere.

  8. Is there a website people can view the upcoming trial calendars in Paulding County?

Very good question. The clerk's office may or may not help you. Last time I called them, they connected me to the DA's office voicemail. The key is to call repeatedly until you talk to someone with the answers.

  9. I want to get my husband dual exhaust put on his truck for Father's Day.  He has a 2003 Ford F150.  I am CLUELESS when it comes to this kind of stuff.  Any suggestions as to where I can go to maybe get him a gift certificate and about how much it might cost would be soooooooooo helpful!!!!!!

The absolute best custom exhaust shop in the area is Grand Muffler on South Cobb Drive just south of Austell Road on the East side. You won't regret getting your system done there. They have worked on many cars of mine over the years and recently installed Magnaflows on my new car. They do custom exhaust work for Team Ford on new Mustangs and Ford trucks.

    Best in the area.

  10. Ok, I need someone with more 'puter experience and internet savvy tahan I have to help me out.

Keep in mind, although virtually computer illiterate, I had no intention of responding to this "just in case".

      Here goes.

I recieved an e-mail this morning informing me that my Paypal account is "temporarily suspended" due to possible unauthorised (isn't that spelled with a "Z"?) transactions placed on my account.

"We ask that you allow at least 72 hours for the case to be investigated. E-mailing us before that time will result in delays.

We thank you in advance for any inconveniences this may cause as we review this matter.

However, failure to confirm/update your account records will result in permanent account suspension.

Once you verify/update your account records, your paypal server will not be interrupted and will continue as normal."

It then gives a link to update my account (www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=login-run&action=update)

Now, I do NOT have a paypal account (never have) and never intertained the notion of contacting them just in case it was someone trying to obtain financial info.

But out of curiosity, I clicked on the link to see what kind of info they require.

I instead got a message which said:

"The publisher pizzaria.netblock.pl ran into a technical problem. Please try again."

Further checking tells me that this message means that the publisher's computer experienced a technical problem while it was trying to send me information.

This occurs because of a mistake made by the author of this page or by the publisher.

Again, I'm computer illiterate, but is this a scam?

What would pizzaria.netblock have to do with paypal?

If this is a legitimate e-mail that was sent to me accidently (although I don't believe it) how would I verify/update my info if I can't even access the page?

I was just wondering. You hear all the time about people being asked to verify account info (whether bank account or other)

when in reality it's someone attempting to get your important financial info.

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

          Armymom

I received one of these from Southtrust. It looks very official and all they wanted was my account information.

Hmmm, I thought, how can I provide this information when I don't have an account?

    SCAM. Delete and ignore.

  11. Don't just "assume" that people who have a new house and multiple new cars (plus other toys) have made huge mistakes with their money or are in debt up to their eyeballs.  There are plenty of people that just flat out make more money than a lot of people who post here.  Mind you I am not saying that is "good" or "bad" but that is the reason that a lot of people are able to afford such things.  If you are making $50k or $60k per year - you just are not in that category.  There are many families in the Metro Atlanta area that are pulling in $200k or more (and sometimes WAY more) per household.

I have a boat, a 1999 Accord V6, 2000 Accord LX, and 2004 F150 FX4 - all were bought new and the only one with a payment left is the truck (1 1/2 years).  I did a lot of research on Hondas and with being persistent,  I was able to harass the Honda dealer into selling me both the Accords for just a little more than 2 or 3 year used models with 40k plus miles (and no warranties).    Paying cash isn’t a great idea either because interest rates are so low now, that you’d be better off taking their money and investing your cash.  Ford gave me 0% on the F150, so even investing that money in a 2% Money Market account would have me hundreds of dollars more at the end of the 3 month loan than if I would have just paid cash for it.

I have no credit card debt whatsoever, even though I use them extensively (but consider them like writing a check).  I am able to save and invest about 50 percent of my after tax income once all the bills, expenses, and wife's spending habits are taken care of.

True. However, if used is a better choice than new, the incentives don't apply. However, you should always compare purchase with cash versus a loan to make sure you get the best overall cost over time.

I use my credit card the same as you and have no debt other than my mortgage. I love those credit card reward points!

  12. As I review all the posts, the common thread says:

    * live within your means (or beneath your means if you want to save for the future)

    * buy new or used (whichever is more comfortable) but don't get an extended loan and don't buy more than you can afford / need

    * be committed to regular maintenance; my experience has always been that it is always less expensive to maintain and repair than to replace

If you keep your car clean and looking good, and it is well maintained, chances are it will deliver you many trouble free miles and because it looks good, you won't get that nasty new car urge too often.

Great input from lots of folks here.

PS-my wife loves her 97 Taurus wagon with 140K miles on it. We keep it clean and new looking. We keep it maintained according to the Ford Maintenance schedule. As long as it keeps running and she's happy, I won't replace it. All our cars have been Ford or GM built. I prefer American cars and have had mostly great service from them. FYI, I hear horror and lemon stories about all cars, whether Japanese or American. However, buy what you prefer.

  13. Cars are paid for in cash. If I don't have it, I don't buy it. I have not had a car loan for over 20 years.

I have not bought "new" for many years. I let someone else absorb the depreciation.

  14. I know I have seen this topic before, but I think you can never get enough of this. At least, I know I can't.

If I see ONE MORE overly made-up blonde girl talking on her cell phone and pulling out in front of me, as if I wasn't there, I will no doubt make the front page of the blessed Paulding Neighbor paper for act beyond my control. Why is it that the only close calls I have with wreck usually involves the same stereotypical bubble brained blonde barreling down the road in her super-sized SUV, oblivious to any and all other drivers? Maybe some husbands need to train these girls how to drive before they waste themselves and their kids.

I can also never complain enough about transient Cobb Countians who drive as slow as Christmas. Do the Paulding co. roads scare them or something? Here's a hint to these people- [look in your rearview mirror, when you see cars piling up on your bumper, do us a favor and pull over somewhere and let us all get by. We have a life and a schedule]

Thanks pcommers for letting me vent.

    FNM ;)

FNM, as long as when you drive, you are obeying the traffic laws, I am fine with this. However, if you are one of the many who speed and drive dangerously along roads such as Dabbs Bridge, then you should look in your own mirror.

  15. Well the Washington D.C. thing is off, we are going to Houston!  At the last minute I got a call to head down to Texas for a new job with the same company I work for but its in the Space program.  My life long dream has been reached.  Thank you for all your prayers, they definately worked.  Things have gone down the tubes here at my old job, changes are going to take place for my coworkers finally, but I am not looking back.  Changes can be good, moving really is arduous but my wife has done most of the packing while I battled with this thing.  I am going home tonight to help her finish up, we did get most done before we went to D.C. for the burial.    Life is good again, Thank you all!!!

That's called a major left turn. I think you'll like the climate in Houston much better. Good luck to you and your family!
