  1. Hey Cobb Transplant- who did you vote for? I hope it wasn't Brian Hardsion who represents Bad Cops. Look Up Waddell vs. The State, from 1996...Hardison was wanting to overturn the conviction, or lesson the time for a bad deputy that paid off another imate (for cigarettes) to beat a person in the jail waiting on bond....do you want a judge that represents bad cops?

Seriously? Our legal system revolves around having legal counsel arguing for the rights of the convicted and the accused. It is necessary in our system of checks and balance. If you want to discount a lawyers credibility simply because they represent a criminal then we would have very few left.

  2. I have no words for this. He was my children's teacher for many years. First in a special needs program then as the art teacher for New Ga Elem. This just makes me sick. So glad he is no longer in our schools. Referring to New GA Elem as a Villa Rica School is quite misleading. It is a Paulding Co School this man taught at.

A former Villa Rica school teacher was indicted last week on charges of possession of child pornography.

I take Villa Rica school teacher to mean a teacher who lives in Villa Rica. It details later where he was employed which indicates Paulding County.

  3. You have unwittingly made the point of very many...why are my tax dollars in use to improve the life of the residents of Dallas and not me (by remaining in my pocket for me to spend)? Why not have the citizens of Dallas band together and pay themselves for whatever it is that they want - thereby making it none of my business?

Maybe because the residents of the city of Dallas pay county taxes also?

Maybe because the residents of the city of Dallas pay an additional city tax?

Maybe because the city of Dallas was awarded Federal stimulus money to fund such projects?

  4. But you work all three of them together, when you pick up a body and it goes straight to the funeral home. Conflict of interest, don't you think.

The family decides which funeral home is used. I dealt with the death of a family member at home that the Coroners Office worked. We were asked who we wanted to use which ended up not being Clarks, there were no suggestions or pressuring of any kind.

  5. I am trying to figure out why so many are trying to goad Surepip into blasting David Austin about this.

They need to talk to their lawyer about this event.

    Give it up already!

Blasting David Austin? All I was pointing out is they have not held back on freely posting over and over about their situation by creating topics and interjecting it into topics that did not remotely involving their case when there was any ruling in their favor yet when it does not go their way they are silent. I could not care less about the politics, it is the perceived hypocrisy that exists when you choose to try your case in the court of public opinion but don't release all the facts.

  6. A 'secure' digital text document in a commonly available format that does not require an encryption program to open? It does not exist. A 12yo could extract the text on any un-editable 'secure' document and recreate it on a blank document in 5 minutes if they had nefarious intent. The only way to get secure documents is the old way, paper copy in person with a raised seal. I have seen hundreds of Federal court motions and judgements and they all look just like this.

  7. If the officer was closer than 100 feet, this raises suspicion on whether this was a lawful traffic stop or not. Regardless of what happened afterwards, if the premise is that it was an unlawful stop, then anything that occurs as a result of that stop can be suppressed as evidence (e.g. the video).

Not necessarily. A stop found not supported by probable cause or reasonable suspicion could get recovered evidence thrown out but it would not provide justification for other criminal offenses.

  8. Let's look at the whole thing...

My interpretation of this law is Joe Six pack with a loud speaker/horn amplifying the music/voice from an internal device/person, not just a loud car stereo... I wonder what a Mustang car radio sounds from 100 feet away? How close was the officer at first contact, possibly closer than 100 feet?

    I wonder what others think?

I also wonder if anyone here has been charge with a misdemeanor for driving around with a loud car stereo?

Huh? It is plain as day.....and all criminal charges are misdemeanors unless otherwise noted with felony status.

    40-6-14.

    (a) It is unlawful for any person operating or occupying a motor

vehicle on a street or highway to operate or amplify the sound

produced by a radio, tape player, or other mechanical sound-making

device or instrument from within the motor vehicle so that the sound

is plainly audible at a distance of 100 feet or more from the motor

    vehicle.

  9. Excellent question... Last time I checked, playing loud music was not against the law, unless is late at night...

100% wrong. Loud music from a vehicle has always been against the law.

    OCGA 40-6-14.

( a ) It is unlawful for any person operating or occupying a motor vehicle on a street or highway to operate or amplify the sound produced by a radio, tape player, or other mechanical sound-making device or instrument from within the motor vehicle so that the sound is plainly audible at a distance of 100 feet or more from the motor vehicle.

( e ) A violation of this Code section shall be a misdemeanor.

  10. Another thing not mentioned is many of those with take home vehicles respond directly to job sites when working. In many cases there is no savings, the distance from the employees home to the job is a wash when compared to the distance from the office to the job. Also, instead of the employee being at the job site at the start of their day with an assigned vehicle they have to go to the office where you now pay them to drive to the site. Same thing at the end of the day, it can easily take an hour of productive time away.

You end up paying $15 or more in salary to avoid a gallon of gas.

  11.

Oh and no one is ignoring it may have been part of the employment agreement, but so was a "Job" to the employees that were laid off. So were paid holidays, but that changed. Why is this any different? Times change and things that may make sense in a better economy, do not make sense in this one.

I guess we will disagree. The expense per employee is pretty small when factored over the long run. You can't take everything if you want to keep the employees that in many cases the county has invested lots of money to train and certify. No raises for several years, huge increases in medical, and forced unpaid days are morale busters on their own. The county has to keep some of its obligations or it will cost them more in the long run when experience walks away.

  12. Plenty of studies say fleets (not just gov, includes private sector)with assigned vehicles have less expensive repair histories and increased longetivity which offset much of the expense that can be attributed to the communting portion of use.

Either way....it is still part of the employees compensation package that the county offered to the employee as compensation for the job they perform. Many people seem to still be ignoring that.

  13. Furlough days---don't even get me started. If $100-$150 a month is going to make these folks go broke--they were already there.

Banks are about the only other businesses that get ALL of the holidays that government does--just because they take the same days as the Federal Reserve.

Many companies are now cutting back on holidays and such--not just government. It's just a money saving thing. Does it boost morale--probably not, but at least they have a job.

You were the one that brought up holidays. I simply pointed out local government only received holiday time comparable to the private sector instead of all the federal holidays as portrayed. Furthermore, all the holidays that you used to bolster your position on how great government pay is are now unpaid.

....and for simply pointing that out someone flags my post as negative.
