  1. So - you guys actually get together and see one another for real????

I could go for that. Do you bring the spouses??? My spouse would wonder HOW and then WHAT POSSESSED ME and WHY I am doing this?

    "A -Because I can" - Final answer.

  2. Thank you RRR,

I live "off" Ridge Road. Probably within spitin' distance from you.....

This is a great website and I read all of your reports. I listen to the scanner mostly late at night when the moon is full. Seems I hear more action then.. ;)

  3. I just registered yesterday and I promise, when things slow down here at the office, I'm with ya'll. This is a great place to go to read what others in the community think about issues; a place to "vent"; a place to be silly if you want to be and, in my case, a chance to add my opinion or comments.

I have laughed at some of the replies and I've wondered at some, but it is a very entertaining and enlightening place to visit.

    Keep it up!!!!

  4. My family is originally from Paulding and growing up in Atlatna, summers were spent in Paulding with cousins, aunts & uncles.

It seemed as if it took hours to get here from Atlanta. Now it's too close. When we moved here in 1993, there were only a couple of subdivisions off Ridge Road. I planned my trips to the grocery store where once I would jump in the car and ride to the corner jiffy store and buy bread.

I wished for a convenience store closer to my house that stayed open later than 8:00 p.m..........

I remember wishing there were more restaurants than the Catfish Den.......

Yesterday, my first day to post to this website, I read about the complaints of the service we get at these places. Too much too soon. I agree - our sleepy little town has awakened. However, I still love "downtown Hiram" (the old part.

Now, if the uphostery store would update his store front.......

  5. I teach 2nd & 3rd graders in Sunday School. I pride myself on having not gotten into any "clicks" at church (which means hearing gossip). However, I get an earful from the kids.

Just ask a child if he'd like to make a prayer request........ Oops - sorry mom & dad.

PS - good thing I'm not in any "clicks"......

  6. I live off Ridge at Waters Road and I hold my breath every time I have to cross or pull onto Ridge. I heard Ridge Road referred to as the Hiram Audubon.

I had written the commissioners regarding a traffic light at Bethel Church/Ridge - it's a nightmare to get out there during school & so many accidents happen there. Two I know of happened where folks were life-flighted to area hospitals. Do you think our great commissioners were responsive to the idea of a traffic light at the school??

NO - a traffic light costs in the neighborhood of $60,000. What is a human life worth? According to the nice letter from our commissioner Mr. Shearin, probably not that much (my words).

Thanks for letting us know about the activity around the area.

  7. I agree totally that there should always be "responsible" supervision wherever there are teens employed.

I think young adults need to be given a chance to gain experience if they want it. However, given that I grew up in a time where we weren't afforded the luxury of lounging around behind a counter and interacting with our friends before we took care of the customer, I view things a little differently.

I take seriously the chance we give our teens to show responsiblity and when they fail, I don't believe we should ignore their lack of concern for their jobs. The first thing a business owner should do is to sit down and give them guidelines. Hiring a responsible individual is the key. Warm bodies is what shows up most times....

We live in a time where we give our children a car when they become 16 and then expect them to help out - well, if we can afford to give them a car, chances are we've spoiled them up to that point and they have no idea what it is to be responsible. We've taken that word out of their vocabulary. We've given them everything. Why should they "work" for anything.

Our generation has caused this. We need to get back to basics with the next crop of kids we're raising. Teach them responsiblity.
