Lake Ramona opened to the public on July 4, 1968 after four years of construction. Built by William Abner "Bill" Waters and his family, over 100,000 board-feet of lumber was removed to clear the land needed for the lake.
It was a pay lake until the mid 1990's when Maggie Waters (Bill's wife) had a stroke and the family closed the store and the lake to the public. Because of the numerous occurrences of trespasing, vandalism and theft, the lake is not open to the public at this time, nor is the property open for people to wander upon.
